I don’t need all tgat fancy stuff, I just wish they’d fix tge spellcheck to recognize tge, tgat and tgeir are not words.
Right. Either that or uploading the video to YouTube or wherever it’s going.
I’m done with my 2-year deal with T-Mobile so I’ve been doing some shopping. The people in my area that have iPhones say their calls get dropped a lot. Also, AT&T wants about an extra $50 bucks per month for the three lines I’d be bringing over. So yeah, AT&T has ruled themselves out for me. I’m either retaining T-Mobile or going to Sprint.
Has anyone seen a review yet on the signal strength of the 4 versus the 3GS? I’m curious if the new antenna makes any noticeable difference.
More pixels than the human eye can distinguish? That sounds like a challenge!
The higher-res, better battery, decreased size in terms of depth, noise canceling and presumably faster processor (anyone know the specs on that yet?) are all nice additions to me. I don’t really need any else, definitely not a 2nd camera or videophone. All in all, not enough to make me want to upgrade from my 3GS, but if I had any other model I would.
One thing I was hoping they would change was the speaker. Currently there is only one small hole where the sound comes out that is ridiculously easy to cover up in terms of normal game playing, which effectively mutes the sound very often.
I can’t find any confirmation yet, but the iPhone 4’s A4 chip is likely the same one that is in the iPad, containing an ARM Cortex A-8 at 1 ghz, while the iPhone 3GS used a 600 mhz Cortex A-8 (actually, an 833mhz chip underclocked to 600)
Technically, any display can fit this criteria if you hold if far enough away. In this case, he stated something around 10 inches–I generally hold mine closer, so I’m dubious of his claim.
He said “upgrade”, so he already has an iphone, which means he has an unlimited data plan, which will be untouched unless he chooses to downgrade to a (cheaper) capped data plan.
Hey LOUNE,
Yeh, I was mainly talking about recording and editing (and nearly viewing) 720p HD all on-phone. The only way bandwidth would come into play was if I wanted to share the video uploading it using 3G. I would rarely ever do this, and just use my WiFi at home if uploading to YouTube or something. Besides, the video will be encoded with h.264, so it’ll be relatively small in regards to MBs, and the bandwidth cap on my WiFi is 200 GBs a month. Way more than I’ll ever need.
I think you have to get the Unlimited Data Plan with the iPhone anyway, making the whole idea moot.
Also, does anyone know what the cost of the iPhone 4 will be outright (no subsidizing?)
Oh yeh, if you’ve got nice, sharp nearsighted vision, you’ll be able to make out the pixels from maybe 5 inches away on my 3GS, albeit they’re still damn tiny. So an increase in 4x resolution will be almost impossible to resolve, as any closer than about 5 or 4 inches, and your eyes just can’t focus that small, and your vision begin to blur. The kind of resolution they’re cramming into 3.5" will look damn near continuous tone. I think I’m actually most excited about this display… it’ll be damn sexy.
$599 and $699 for the 16 and 32.
Actually, the unlimited data plan will soon be gone. 2GB will be the new upper limit, unless you want to pay more money.

Those who already have the unlimited plan (even with a different AT&T smartphone) are grandfathered in and can keep the unlimited plan. At least for the time being… who knows what they’ll do in the future, but if you already have it, you can stick with it.
Is that true? I would’ve assumed that a new phone = new contract, and they’d surely make you choose from among the new, “improved” data plans. (Excepting perhaps those willing to pay full price for a non-discounted phone.)
Yeah, it’s true. Switching to a new phone and renewing your contract will not cause you to lose to unlimited data plan. I’m sure that they’ll change that the next go round.
Don’t commit to a switch to Sprint yet. Wait until July. I’m also with T-Mo. I just picked up the MyTouch 3G Slide (to replace my old G1). The phone is very nice, but definitely mid-range, as are even the best of T-Mobile’s phones. I am taking my phone back (still in the trial period) because I have heard enough rumours floating around that says the Samsung Galaxy S is coming to T-Mobile in July.
This phone sounds like a beast and and seems to have all the same basic features of the iPhone 4.
From here: BriefMobile -
The Galaxy S (like the MyTouch3g Slide) will come with Swype pre-installed. If you haven’t yet experienced this on-screen text input program - you haven’t lived. I waited so long to upgrade my G1 because I wanted a physical keyboard. The MT3G Slide has one but I haven’t used it once because Swype is that amazing. Seriously, I don’t know how it works, but I’m convinced that witchcraft’s involved.
I will be getting one as soon as I can. I have a 3G, which I love, but I’m really excited about upgrading to a better camera and HD video. I also must have a better phone than my kids, who each have a 3GS!
The front-facing camera is the worst idea ever. Why would I want people to be able to see me when I’m talking to them on the phone?
Seriously?
There are a lot of people that want that: mainly Skype users and for video-conferencing. Both are difficult, if not impossible, to achieve without a front-facing camera. The new iPhone and the phone I plugged have two cameras: one front-facing and one standard in the back for taking pictures.
Yes, seriously. The problem here is that once front-facing cameras become standard in phones, there is going to be a growing expectation of letting people see you while you talk. How comfortable are you going to be with that? Same with the damn location monitor.
