They are absolutely certain that they are right, not only intellectually, but morally. That firm conviction vanquishes any doubt, and makes them impervious to reason.
Thats what first came to my mind.
Dunno. In Texas, we have a saying, You should not say something about the dead unless it’s good.
“Well, he’s dead.”
“Good!”
I reckon you could substitute Republican for Dead. (And I’m sure you’d prefer to.)
Is the thread open to moderate conservatives with no party affiliation, or should that be a separate “Say nice things about Liberals” thread?
Interesting assessment, because I saw McCain as only Right of Hillary, and even then, not by much. The idiots who said that McCain would just be 4 more years of Bush apparently only listen to the headlines.
Unfortunately, I can’t consider myself a dyed in the wool Republican, even though I vote that way more often. Mostly because Democrats are socially self-righteous, and Republicans are morally self-righteous, and self-righteous = asshole in any Party. So I have to vote on the basis of which side will screw me less than the other.
They are very good at getting their way through any means necessary.
They are masters of manipulation and of hiding their true aims from their base.
They possess a remarkably flexible morality.
[Moderator Note]Nice try, but no. Unless you honestly think these are good qualities, your post is close to threadshitting.[/Moderator Note]
Dude re-read the thread, every other post is threadshitting.
They have some serious brains in back of them plotting strategy. They long ago stressed the Supreme Court Judges as important. The Dems just gave in. It has bit them big time.
They have the money and planning to take over the message delivery system. They dominate radio and control most of TV news. They want to subdue the internet and they will succeed.
They gutted newspapers to wring every dime out of them they could.
They planned the middle east wars long ago. When the opportunity came they were ready to spring. The neocons got what they wanted. The New World Order was applied.
Long ago they accepted Randian philosophy about total deregulation of business being a boon to all men. Greenspan and his followers gutted regulation and helped make enormous fortunes and power for the wealthy and the bankers. Their philosophy has dominated our economy for decades. Even after the disaster they caused, they are still in power.
They don’t back down on their right to dominate. They do not compromise. They are dedicated Libertarians and will not back down no matter how much of a mess they made.
Agreed, and not very veiled at that. Most of the people posting deserve a note, not just picker.
(bolding mine)
They have persuaded many a chicken to vote for Col. Sanders.
So, yeah…Being persuasive is good.
At least they aren’t totalitarian.
Do note the emphasis on the non-national Republicans. If I had to say something nice about the current batch at the national level, then, they’re very good at convincing at least one Friedman-Republican to decide once and for all to become a capital L Libertarian.
I’m an activist (albeit a lazy one) in the cause of mental patient self-determination, the right to say no to psychiatric treatment and to be free of psychiatric incarceration when we haven’t broken any laws.
The Republicans — Congressfolk, State gov officials, local gov officials — have often supported those rights as part of a general attitude that a person’s home is their castle and that you’ve got the right to do and be as you please with privacy, at least if you do indeed have a home. Especially if you’re an owner.
More generally, some Republican politicians have been supportive of individuals rights in good ways; it’s an area of politics more often associated with the Democrats but the latter can be inconsistent and Republican support for unimpeded free speech involving unpopular opinions deserves a favorable mention, as well as the rights to own and operate various items and bits of equipment free from excessive bureaucratic regulation, most famously guns but other things as well. There are even Republicans who have taken positions supporting the right of people to own and partake in the use of drugs, free from governmental interference, although that’s never been the policyof either major party.
Well, I can say good things about Democrats, as well as good things about Republicans. I agree with a number of things from both sides.
What I CAN’T say good about either side the is blind adherence to every aspect of their official platforms. Including automatic rejection of all items of the opposite platform, and also automatically of all the people who do subscribe to only some of them.
So, what can I say good about the Republicans that’s true, and isn’t threadshitting? In general, they screw me less than the Democrats do.
They’re generally in favor of nuclear power, something that I’m personally in favor of as well.
Well, they aren’t Democrats.
Bill Seitz - Ohio Senate for District 8. I agree with almost nothing he holds dear. He has stated he does not like public employee unions and that they have never done a thing for him. I am for better or worse a public employee in a union position.
BUT - The man has lost has spot on at least two committees, and I believe the chairmanship of one of those, because he has stood up against the Republican establishment in Ohio and has spoken out against the union-busting bill recently passed. He does not like the way the bill was pushed through the Assembly and thinks it goes to far.
While we don’t agree on many political topics, I respect him for taking a stand to protect something he doesn’t even like simply because he thought the process was wrong. Senator Seitz is a man of principles.
Point taken.
[Moderator Note]No more backhanded compliments, insults disguised as complments, etc. If you cannot give an honest compliment about Republicans, don’t post. This includes saying things like “Well, they don’t screw me over quite as much as the Democrats”[/Moderator Note]
They pay taxes so that the freeloaders can eat.
