Superbowl IV: Kansas City vs. Minnesota
Purdue (Len Dawson) vs. Cal (Joe Kapp)
Michigan v. Ole Miss (Twice)
Navy vs. Louisiana Tech (twice)
(Staubach’s Cowboys lost to Bradshaw’s Steelers in Super Bowls X and XIII)
Superbowl XLIV–Saints (Brees–Purdue) v Colts (P. Manning–Tennessee)
Northern Iowa vs. Alcorn State
(Kurt Warner of the Rams over Steve McNair of the Titans in Super Bowl XXXIV)
Notre Dame over Augustana, Pitt, Maryland and Stanford in Super Bowls XVI, XIX, XXIII and XXIV
Alabama over Michigan State (Joe Namath & the Jets over Earl Morrall & the Colts), Super Bowl III
Interesting to note how many schools have produced 2 Super Bowl QBs. Not necessarily collegiate powerhouses:
Alabama (Namath & Stabler)
Notre Dame (Montana & Theismann)
Cal (Kapp & Rodgers)
Purdue (Dawson & Brees)
Stanford (Plunkett & Elway)
There were also two Brigham Young boys: Jim McMahon and Steve Young.
You forgot another Alabama boy: Bart Starr, who won the first two Super Bowls.
And you forgot another Fighting Irishman: Daryle Lamonica, who took the Raiders to Super Bowl 2.
And another Cal quarterback, Craig Morton. was starting QB for two different teams in the SUper Bowl (he lost both times).
More obscurely: both Joe Flacco and Rich Gannon went to Delaware
Loser Billy Kilmer and winner Troy Aikman both went to UCLA
Losers Boomer Esiaison and Neil O’Donnell went to Maryland
That *is *obscure.
I’m mortified that I forgot Craig Morton. Technically, Cal can claim Vince Ferragamo (Rams, Super Bowl XIV) who transferred from Cal to Nebraska after his sophomore year.
So that gives Cal 3.5 QBs, Bama 3, Notre Dame 3, Stanford 2, Delaware 2. Go Bears!
Purdue is also at 3: Dawson, Griese and Brees. (“Chris” Everett lost in the '89 NFC Championship game to the 49ers, otherwise it’d have been 4.)
XXXII: Stanford (John Elway) vs. Southern Mississippi (Brett Favre)
Michigan v. Syracuse (Brady v. McNabb)
Stanford vs. Youngstown State in Super Bowl XV (Jim Plunkett and Ron Jaworski)
Augustana v Notre Dame
(Anderson v Montana)
Delaware (Joe Flacco) over Nevada (Colin Kaepernick) in Super Bowl 47
