Well, is vegan a lifetime commitment? Is it enforced? If so, how?
If the mayor was vegan and now he isn’t does that mean nothing he says can be trusted, ever?
Is a person allowed to change their mind about their diet preferences?
Did he say he was vegan specifically before this meal? Is it possible he doesn’t understand what it means?

I mean, it’s not the fish eating, it’s the lying. His office repeatedly denied that he ordered fish and then he later admitted that he regularly eats fish at restaurants. If he’s willing to baldfaced lie about trivial stuff like this, what else is he willing to lie about? How is anybody to trust any statements coming out of his office after this?

Seriously, through harassment. Look at how any vegan celeb who stops, even for health reasons, gets treated online. Those who lie (like Rawvana) get treated worse. I never heard the mayor was a vegan before, so I guess he didn’t draw enough attention to get harassed online.
All kidding aside, I think the point of contention here is did the NYC mayor publicize being a vegan in order to appeal to the hipster crowd for votes? I don’t think this is just a slip-up or back-slide on his part.
He should have identified himself as a pescatarian. That’s the term a fish eating vegetarian is supposed to use. At least I think that’s the term.
