My old Mac seems to no longer be bootable, and I am looking for a screen shot of the scarab from Scarab of Ra.
Anyone out there still have a playable Scarab of Ra game that could get me a screenshot of the scarab?
I’ve looked in Bing & Google image searches and found lots of monkeys and mummies and other Scarab images, but so far no scarab.
I know this is a longshot, but thought it can’t hurt to ask.
How long does it take to get to a screenshot of the scarab? If it’s not that long, I might be willing to find a copy and play it up to that point.
If not, I’ll look for high quality videos (aka “let’s plays”) on YouTube and take a screenshot.
Here’s a version I found in a YouTube video, after someone threw the scarab at a Mummy.
But I have a feeling there must be a way to look at the items in your inventory or a way to see the scarab before all those dots appear on all the walls, as there’s no way you can tell that this thing is a scarab.
It seems the thing is the last item you find before you finish the game, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to find it. Perhaps you’d prefer me to help you get the game running on a newer computer so you can get your own screenshot? I’m at least going to try to get it working on my PC, and maybe try a playthrough or two. (Honestly, this really isn’t my sort of game. I’m not a Rogue-alike fan.)

Well, I did get the game running on my PC, and I did quickly find a scarab hieroglyph on the wall. The image is higher quality than anything you’d get from trying to crop a YouTube video, but you may want the actual scarab. (And there doesn’t appear to be any way to look at your inventory items.)
BTW, here’s the scarab from cckerberos’s second video. I’ve enhanced it and sharpened it to make up for the quality loss. And I doubled (technically quadrupled) the size.

P.S. this is a project I am working on to find or commission a scarab locket to hold a picture of my sister who passed away in 2007. We played Scarab obsessively for many years.
Apologies for bumping such an old thread, but I wanted to let you know that I finally used everyone’s hard work helping me find an image of the scarab. After a long time searching for a suitable locket, I gave up and got a tattoo.

This is the first I’m seeing this thread, and it needs to be screenshotted and saved for the sake of humanity.
