It would seem that there’s a not so lost sole that wanders over hundreds of square miles of backcountry Utah living in and off of summer cabins as they’re closed up (not too well apparently) for winter. MSNBC article. Authorities would like to catch him for a number of reasons, first of all for breaking and entering and theft of things from food and expensive gear to guns and ammo. But also his actions have recently turned darker, shooting up cabins, trashing their contents and even leaving a warning to stay off of “his” mountain.
As you might expect, this has the owners and area residents a little fearful of this wilderness wastrel. Police and FBI haven’t been able to link him to any missing persons and his fingerprints apparently have never been put on file. A couple of photos exist but serve little more than to deepen the mystery.
It’ll be interesting to see what comes of this. While his ability to live and move around stealthily in difficult conditions is impressive, his disdain for the rights and property of others fully erodes regarding him in any romantic or heroic image.
