Yep, although as an aside, I think that the biggest winners were the old media and a good chunk of the new, nice racket they have by turning many contests into horse races and raising the demand for advertizing.
IMHO there are billions of reasons why they have an interest into doing that, it was noticeable to me that people like Nate Silver were admonished even by his corporation when he made noises that this presidential contest and others were not really as tight as the horse race narrative that the corporate press needed it to be.
Until the race changes to popular vote instead of the electoral college, then all we have is idle speculation. If the entire election machine was about winning the popular vote, I for one think the split will not be 51-49 but a much greater magnitude.
Today it’s all about winning the electoral college and a few “swing” states. That’s a lot different race.
It’s called marketing - also never lighten up a chump. The campaigns have plenty of independent polling - they aren’t going to spend money based on what CNN says.
I think it is more a bidding war. Maybe Citizens United is not a favor to Republicans but a favor to the media. Meg Whitman spent $150 million of her own money two years ago and got creamed. Ms. Wrestling Bitch spent a ton of her own money and lost. And I just started a thread in Elections on how Karl Rove collected $300 million. spent it on the presidential campaign and 10 senate races, and got on one senate victory in Nevada.
I think any admonishment to Nate is more ratings than ad revenue. People turn off a football game when it goes 21 - 0.
Well, she’s welcome. Don’t worry, we’ll cure her of her disillusionment of America. She’ll be back in three weeks, tops. (Hell, we even cure a lot of Democrats as well. You think you’ve got a nanny state? We’ll show you a nanny state!)
Ha. He may be a little disapointed if he comes up here. On the political spectrum our conservatives are closer to democrats than republicans policy wise. eg . conservatives are currently working on policy to fast track skilled immigrants into Canada.
Just popping back in to say that the person I mentioned above has been getting a FB smack down by an 80 year old woman in reply to her “I’m moving to Norway” rant. The old lady is doing it with respect and kindness, which I admire. She’s replying to every one of the ranty tea party talking points with real-life personal experience and wisdom that her 80 years has brought. I told that old lady that I want HER to run for president! I expect to be unfriended shortly.
While there is some truth here, I have also heard that the last Democratic President to win a second term with over 50% of the vote was FDR. The last Republican President to do the same was Reagan. So at some level, it was a fairly historic victory.
Only after they pry his cold, dead fingers away from the guns.
I’ve often thought that I might enjoy living in Canada, except for the weather. I’m sure that my blood would freeze in my veins. Bill, on the other hand, seems to think that Canada is still a nation of fur trappers and dogsled runners.
