I believe he was a surgeon. Dunno how long ago he practiced.
He was first elected to the Senate in 1994, but it does not say how long he continued practicing.
Frist is no incompetent doctor, he is a disingenous politician pretending ignorance because it plays well with the “culture of living death” crowd. He knows full well the scientific basis of conclusions reached through an autopsy, but he doesn’t dare support them without looking like a fool. So he lies.

I’m sorry if I missed this elsewhere, but how much of her brain weight (or lack thereof) could be attributed to the dehydration which she died of? I would imagine that the massive dehydration that killed her would dehydrate her organs too and cause them to weigh a lot less than they would normally.
The major reduction in size of Terry Schiavo’s brain was due to atrophy, not dehydration.
Following her severe brain injury due to anoxia (loss of oxygen) the brain atrophied (shrank) and the fluid-filled ventricles widened markedly (you can see this in the CT scan that has been posted on a number of sites online). The role of terminal dehydration in contributing to the lowered brain weight would have been relatively minimal.
I hear tell the real reason she fell ill was she had been left in the car in the summer with the windows closed.

Anyone care to take a shot at armchair analysis of the parents psychopathology? It has to be clear to anyone reading the Schindler’s comments (via attorney) regarding the autopsy report that this was never about “love”.
Does it occur to anyone else that Terri Schiavo was raised by egoistic controlling shitheads who attempted to control their daughter’s coming and going even up until and including, the day she died and that their treatment of Terri contributed to her need to gain control which was expressed in her developing an eating disorder?

I’ll take. That was my wife’s first idea [she’s a therapist who sees a good deal of girls and women with EDs] when all of this first started appearing in the news – they were tearing Mike Schiavo apart at the seams, but no one mentioned the fact that girls/women with eating disorders tend to have brothers/fathers who help set that in place with extreme criticism of their weight and looks. The mothers of these girls also focus heavily on their physical attractiveness, in order that they will “snag a good husband”, etc.
Does anyone else remember Schiavo’s brother saying something along the lines of “When it’s all said and done, the world will know what kind of man Bob Schindler is”? I always rather wondered if he was perhaps alluding to some of the ideas that widdleytinks brought up.
I do seem to recall that statement. Did you also pick up on the fact that after Terri and Michael were married and moved to Florida, that the Schindler’s moved to Florida to “be with Terri”? Does that seem slightly odd to you? Ask your wife!

I’m rather glad Scott didn’t [or Mike didn’t allow Scott to] expose all, as it would simply lower them to the standards of… well… other people, and put Terri’s uber-personal business on display for the world.
And, no, I didn’t know that the Schindler’s moved to Florida BEFORE Terri’s illness – I always thought it was after. That seems very strange to me – what parents pick up and follow their newly wed daughter and her husband? Perhaps overly controlling and emotionally suffocating ones? It’s certainly an idea.
And I shall ask the missus in the morning and report back. I’d ask now, but I’m likely to receive some brain damage myself if I wake her to discuss the Schiavo case!
