I’m sure no one here will find thisof interest, but you might know someone who would.
You can navigate the site better from the main page.
I didn’t know that the ID4 mothership dwarfs even the second death star!
Scroll about halfway down to see the Star Destroyer. Remember how huge it was in the opening scene of Star Wars? Now look how big it is. Then scroll up and check out the EVE Online ships.
EVE Online is clearly superior to The Old Republic.
I’ve had that in my bookmarks for years.
One of the few sites that really needs IE as you can drag the ships around the page to make more direct comparisons. Can’t do that in Firefox.
Don’t be too proud of this technological terror you’ve constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.
That’s pretty cool.
It’s too bad that they didn’t include ships from Iain M. Banks’ Culture, as the description of a General Systems Vehicle makes it sound fairly impressive, but I don’t suppose there are any agreed-upon graphic designs.
Well I found it interesting…
Yeah, I’d seen that before. Highly speculative, but a lot of fun.
I’ve said that I’d like to see a similar website but with famous paintings so you could see their differences in their size. We tend to think of all paintings as being approximately the same size because we’re used to seeing them reproduced on a book page. But in reality Guernica is over sixty times bigger than the Mona Lisa.
I first visited that site, jeez, almost 10 years ago by way of Martin Sargent’s mentioning of it on The Screen Savers. God I miss that show…
And yet the Super Star Destroyer is shown as being just as massive, which just can’t be right.
The Super Star Destroyer might be long, but the EVE ships are thick. And everyone that’s in the know knows that thickness is what really matters.
When all’s said and done, I’d still rather have a TARDIS. It’s the size on the *inside *that matters.
True, but even the System class GSVs are only supposed to be around 200km in each dimension. Even if one was imaged to be a cube (what with the fields and all), it would only be a bit bigger than the 2nd Death Star. And these are among the largest ships among Involved species in the Culture version of the Milky Way (though, of course, they have much larger habitats and such).
Of course, that’s still ridiculously large.
I’m probably just an idiot, but I see neither the ID4 ship OR the Death Star…
Nevermind…found em.
Click on the “-2000x” tab.
ID4 mothership is almost at the bottom, listed as 800km in size. The Death Star mk1 is two ships below that, at 160km across.
The city destroyers of Independence Day are smaller, at 24km. (Seen on the “-100x” tab.)
