'Scorched Earth' - the best computer game ever!

I’ve recently rediscovered the computer game called ‘Scorched Earth’, or simply ‘Scorch’. Have any of you guys ever played it?? It’s from the late 80’s I think, but who knows?

It has the coolest weaponry.
The tanks are very rude and come in 4 different colors and shapes.
There’s pixelated tanks with parachutes, too.
When you blow somebody up, the ground blows up too in an ever-expanding circular display of aggression centering around the initial hit.

I cannot convey the intrinsic simplicity of the game. In this simplicity exists the genius.

There is no game except Everquest.

<wanders off in a daze, muttering about alluring sirens and three short levels to breeze…>

Gimme some of them heavy rollers, baybee!

I spent way too many hours on that game. Usually in a group of three or four, with way too much alcohol.

Yay! I was thinking about this just a few days back. Thank you!

Scorched Earth is the shit.
Playable on almost anything, and very addictive.

Scorched Earth!! Yeah, baby!!

How many hours have I wasted on that game? Who knows!! Hundreds! Thousands!!

Thanks for making me grin when I saw the title

I’ve got a version on my Visor. You too can get it from http://www.palmgear.com, but until you register it, it’s stuck on the default options. Which is fun enough for me.

Great game. I used to be able to score first-shot hits on just about anybody, regardless of gravity or wind settings.

And what could be more fun than sending up a Death’s Head in 100-MPH winds? Spread the love, baby!

Hell Yes. It had a bug, wherein you could quickly earn zillions of dollars, and degenerate the game into a deaths head fest. Wonderful.

In my sophomore year of high school, two guys in front of me during drafting class played a similar game with pencil, paper and eraser. I first discovered the mother of all games on display in a Software Etc. circa '92. I now have a registered copy of the most recent version (1.5); the shareware version is available from the official site. The new shield in 1.5 - SuperMag - doesn’t deflect shots like it’s supposed to.

What’s more fun than a Death’s Head in 100-MPH winds? A Death’s Head in 100-MPH winds and a wraparound landscape!

Hehe if you like Scorched Earth you need to try Worms. It’s the same basic game type but you have heavily armed little Rambo Worms running around blowing each other up.

Ah yes, Scorch. I first played it in high school back in '93 (boy I feel old). Give me the Funky Bombs anytime baby!

Ah yes, Scorched Earth the only game where Nukes were the wimply weapons! Gets even better when you change the default taunts to your own favorite movie lines.

Ahh, memories, memories, memories…

I remember playing Scorched Earth as I was a little’un in kindergarten (year: 1990-1). I rediscovered the joy of plinking nukes around, too, recently, and have rediscovered the joy of living as well.

But really… Death’s Heads? Wimpy weapons, horribly ineffective against a shielded enemy, and messes up the beautiful scanned mountain ranges. Hot Napalm, Lazyboy-guided, however… (maniacal laughter)

I’ve tried to download this game from the links given, but I’m only able to download zipped copies, and since I don’t have Winzip, I’m screwed.

Would somebody please send me an UNZIPPED copy of this game on a floppy disc? I’ll pay you for your disc & for shipping & handling. Please e-mail me at rastahomie@hotmail.com for my snail-mail address.

TIA

um, rastahomie, why not get winzip? It’s shareware too. http://www.winzip.com

If for some reason you really don’t want to do that, I can email you the .prc file that it unzips to. I assume you know how to install on your palm device, given that?

I lost way too many hours to that game. Anyone remember its antecedent, the venerable Tank Wars?
