Scott Peterson - Guilty

Murder one!

Will they quit harping about it all over the national news now?

Yay!

Even though Scott Peterson is a good-looking man (and therefore our social superior), I’m glad he’s convicted.

Somma da beetch I’m surprised. I didn’t think that would happen.

I sure hope so.

:keeps fingers crossed:

And Murder 2, for the death of his son.

Yeah! Justice is served!

You got a date with a needle, murderer.

Considering two jurors had to be replaced, it certainly didn’t take long to reach a verdict.

The SDMB just scooped the NY Times.

Rilch beat you by six minutes but yours has a better title.

Don't count on it. Don't they have to do the penalty phase next to decide whether to give him the death penalty? I'm not familiar with California law, so I could be wrong....

Yay! But can’t he appeal?
I believe that he is guilty but I don’t think they proved it beyond a reasonable doubt.
I am happy over the verdict but am preparing to be sad when he gets off. :frowning:

Yeah, the penalty phase is next… at the end of the month, I believe. The “special circumstances” conviction means the prosectution is almost certainly going to press for the death penalty.

Ugh, those poor parents. Lacy’s parents have lost a daughter and grandson, and Scott’s parents had all of their life savings and assets cleaned out and given to lawyers.

You shouldn’t have killed your wife, Scott.

They will appeal because that’s what a good defense attorney does (especially because from what we’ve seen, there does seem to be at least a possibility of some reas. doubt) but I bet you his appeal is unsuccessful. I’m not sure what the standard of review would be – it would depend on what the appeal(s) were based on – but I betcha he never sees the light of day again. I live close enough that I had flyers on my car when she was missing. I’m happy.

I don’t think there’s a reasonable doubt.

The guy lied to police and to Amber Frey, and we’re talking not-mentally-right kind of lying. The guyt bought a boat just a few months before. He traded in his wife’s car after only two months. He dyed his hair and lied about that too, while carrying $15000 cash and heading for Mexico. He tried to say he was framed by a homeless person ort burglar…excuse me? What homeless person or burglar would have any sort of motivation or even if they did know enough about him and his wife to frame him. The whole thing stank from the very beginning.

I hope they fry him.

That’s amazing without a body.

Without a body?

You DO know they found her back in April, don’t you?

Well, that encourages me a bit. We also had fliers in my area. It took me a minute to put them and the reports on the news together and then, like everyone else in the area , I became very interested in the case.

The basis for the appeal will be for removing the jurors incorrectly. If the judge had a good legal reason to do it there shouldn’t be a problem.

Not so fast.

The jury has next week off. They return on November 22 to decide if it’s death or life in prison.
