Scottsdale, AZ Rental

My college age son just got a summer internship at a company in Scottsdale. Anyone have any leads on where/how to find a summer rental in that area?

You can check out vrbo.com (vacation rentals by owner) or homeaway.com.

I have used vrbo.com frequently with good results, including two trips to Arizona within the last two years. Scottsdale is known as a vacation and resort destination, so there should be plenty to choose from, across many size and price ranges. Otherwise, consider googling “Scottsdale furnished apartments”.

Craigslist

When I was a student at ASU many decades ago there were many, many places available in Tempe during the summer. Both Tempe and Scottsdale are much larger now so Tempe may be too far removed for your needs. Also at that time there were a lot of wealthy persons in Scottsdale who went to milder climes and ‘‘house setters’’ were sometime in demand. Again, time may have changed all that.

Mind if I piggyback/bump?

Daughter is taking a full-time job in the Phoenix area this summer. Wondering what the overall rental market is like… is finding a place available for immediate occupancy with a relatively short-term lease very likely?

Furnished? Yes. Unfornished? I really don’t know.

At least with vrbo.com and likely with homeaway.com, they provide furnished homes and condos anywhere from 1 week to monthly rates, subject to availability, almost immediately. Terms are negotiable.

Phoenix has a large snowbird population, so summer is off season (for obvious reasons), and there should be a large selection from which to choose.

If you are looking for the east side of Phoenix, I recommend you consider Fountain Hills, a nice quiet bedroom community with easy access to anything on the east side, and less expensive than Scottsdale. On the high end, North Scottsdale can’t be beat. On the less expensive side, as a college town, Tempe should have plenty of inexpensive but decent and safe accommodations available.

From piggyback/bump to a whole new tangent…

I was looking on the AZ site for general info relevant to those moving to the state. Couldn’t find any good concise info.

Anybody got any tips for somebody (and her parents) who has lived in the Midwest all of their lives?

What kind of information?

Son found a 2 BR condo in Scottsdale owned by someone heading to San Diego for the summer. $600.00/mo., utilities incl. Just a few minutes from his place of work/internship. We did find other options on the ASU website. There’s a page on which students place ads for summer sublets. These units, understandably, are in Tempe.

Stuff like tax rates, car registration issues, auto insurance requirements and relative costs, etc. General stuff re “what to do when you move to a new state” with certain specifics to AZ
