Lil Scotty thinks this would be a fun-filled, peaceful world if women ran things. Because, as we all know, women are humble, sensitive, nonviolent, nurturers who would never start a war or hurt anyone.
And 170 comments, countless cites and dozens of awesome points later, Lil Scotty is still maintaining his original point. He also thinks we should mandate it so women are in charge of at least half of all politics, government, you get the gist. He also doesn’t believe in cites, and is irritated that people in Great Debates are treating it like “debate club.”
I couldn’t bite my tongue, so I had to start a thread down here for Retardo Montalbon.
Yes, Pattoo, like rich Corinthian leather, this post should at once delight and outrage the reader. For this is their fantasy…[SPANISH GUITAR]…and in it women are indeed the gentler, fairer, sex. Again, much like rich Corinthian leather… [/SPANISH GUITAR]
Okay, I think you are an ignorant fuckstick that doesn’t understand critical thinking or logic. Moreover, you make elementary debate errors, commit just about every logical fallacy known and continue on along your happy little road of bullshit. Of course it seems that you went to the school of “my dad always said”, got a degree from “everybody knows” university, and are obviously in the process of receiving your doctorate from “some bloke down the pub told me” State, so you are certainly more than qualified to debate. It is obvious you have little to no idea of how the world actually works, so why don’t you stay out of the deep end of the pool until you don’t need your floaties any longer.
I thought the highlight was when he suggested you not get frustrated, Indygrrl, because it will give you wrinkles.
So…since I’m not well-conversed in the rules of the Pit these days, I hope readers will fill in appropriate epithets, while I say that that was a repulsive bit of sexist work right there, perhaps the most overt patronizing sexism in a thread full of offensive gender based stereotypes.
First off, you don’t know me. But I’ll concede, maybe I was a little over the top. Sometimes you gotta be if you want to get people’s attention. I don’t actually think all women are perfect. Just watch Nancy Grace.
All I said though is we would all be a bit better off. It’s so patently obvious to me that I didn’t even feel I needed a cite to prove it. But I did provide a few at the end anyways, but to no avail. Who didn’t see that one coming?
What are you so mad about though? Because I’m confident that I’m right? Or is it just because I’m not playing by your rules? I know I can’t prove it, but sometimes you gotta have faith.
Scotty. We can assume you’re here because you like the Straight Dope, which means you’ve probably read some of the columns. You like it enough that you made the effort to join a community of other people who like it, and want to engage in the same sort of debate that the Dope is often host to.
Now if you’ve ever read a Straight Dope column, you must know that taking information “on faith” is anathema around here, not to mention that all of the dozens of people you’ve been debating with aren’t going to “just take your word for it” if they have their own differing opinions plus miles of evidence to back them up. Don’t get self-righteous on us - it’s not that you’re “not playing by our rules,” you’re simply conducting your argument in a completely irrational way and, not to make this too personal, saying some really fucking stupid things in the process.
I’m not trying to be condescending, here, and I’ve got some pretty inflammatory things I might be induced to say before long. But I did want to try and explain calmly and neutrally, outside the context of a heated argument, before I got around to tearing you a new asshole. Hope I helped.
Punch Line Loser, To be honest, I’m probably wrong in a number of ways. But really I don’t know what I said that was all that bad. Let me ask you this, you got a better idea?
Whoa, whoa. I know you and other posters are having some issues, but let’s keep things civil - no need to be telling people to do things like this. Now, if you told him to shove a flaming 2 by 4 up his ass, I could understand. But watch Nancy Grace - over the line, man. Over the line.
Yes, Scotty, I do. I iterated it twice in the aforementioned thread (also DocCathode made the point independently just now), and so far it’s gone unnoticed. The fate of visionaries, I guess. If you’re wondering why anyone thinks what you said was “all that bad,” I’d recommend taking a second look at the allegations of sexism raised by many of us.
Your problem is your square-peg-round-hole debating style. You’re not going to convince someone simply by repeating yourself. You’re free to think what you want, but it should be evident by now that this kind of shit won’t get you very far here.
