Scout your local team for fantasy football

Let’s help each other to win our fantasy football leagues this year by sharing info about our local teams that may be missed by the national media.

I’ll go first.

Minnesota Vikings

The offense looks real sharp at this point. Michael Bennett looks much improved (and he’s been getting goal-line carries in pre-season). Randy Moss has avoided making an ass of himself (to this point) and they seem to be serious about getting him the ball a lot more this year. Culpepper looks improved. Alexander is worthless. He’s going to be on the bench a lot with Bates serving as the #2 WR. Brien’s kicking has been bad enough to get him cut from the team, they may bring Gary Anderson back. The defense will be average at best.

Actually Rogerb I am not sure they are going to bring Gary back.
their best bet if they need kicking fixes it going to be a trade with the 49ers.
The 49ers have the tightest kicking derby in the preseason. between Cortez and Chandler.

Cortez is looking sharp this year after having a bit of a slump at the end of last season.
Chandler is just a hair behind Cortez, yet the 49ers have invested a 4th round pick in him. Only one will make the team, I am betting Cortez, if not, the other has done well enough to get a kicking job someplace else.

But, I have noticed the same things watching the pre-season.

More Vikings info…

For those of you that might be looking for a sleeper receiver: Byron Chamberlain, tight end. He may not have Gonzalez-type stats (you never know, though), but he’s a better pick than the 48th wideout on your cheat sheet.

Even though I’m not in a fantasy football league this year (as usual, my fantasies don’t involve football), I’ll help out with the Redskins.

We’re all a bit uncertain about how the Great Spurrier Experiment will work out. After last night, the whole idea’s starting to look a tad more credible, but who knows? I’d only draft Redskins as backups if I were in a fantasy league.

Even the defense. Marvin Lewis is a superb defensive coach, and the personnel are first-class. But if it winds up spending 40 minutes per game on the field, which is a real possibility, it’s going to give up points.

QB: On offense, Wuerffel looks like the starting QB, and is worth a flyer as a backup QB if you don’t have anyone else good; if Spurrier’s offense works in real games, having Wuerffel will be a boon. But it’s a gamble.

RB: Stephen Davis is starting to find a real role in the offense, but isn’t going to be worth as much as last year. You can’t expect him to get 20 carries a game, so take him as a backup if you can get him, but find a workhorse for your main RB.

K: I’m not sure if Jamie Rheem or James Tuthill will be the placekicker once the season starts. Find someone else.

Receivers: Rod Gardner will be the main man, and I’d say he’s a decent pick for a starter, even if the team goes 6-10. If they go 11-5, then he’ll have amazing numbers. I’m not sure I can handicap the others.
