Screaming Boy Preacher 10 yrs ago?

Well, I have been reading what everyone has been posting. I have found everyones’ input very interesting. I find it most interesting that people think Duffy’s post is a fake. I mean really? Who has time to do all that and who would want to? I am sure he is the genuine article. I respect him for his view and beliefs. He owns who he was and is, so I cannot fault that; even if I don’t necessarily agree with it. If he thinks I was a mistake or an acceptable loss of his father’s former life, so be it. I don’t agree with it and I certainly feel it is an easy way to sherk the responsiblity that a man should feel and honor to a child that was created from his loins. Maybe Duffy doesn’t realize that he was conceived before his father was saved … because he was. David’s being saved was an obsession that caused Duffy and his mother to leave him. The didn’t know how to process a man suddenly turning their living room into a church. The family split for quite a while until, for reasons only owned by Duffy’s mother, the three reuinited and started down the screaming preaching path together. It is convenient to use ‘being saved’ as a reason that a blessed ‘saved’ man would turn his back on an innocent little boy who only wondered where his father was and why he didn’t want to see him. Oh well, I guess to each his own. I didn’t need that version of a father around anyways. My mother did a grat job all by herself. I turned out just fine and, like Duffy, I have no regrets about my past or the man I have become. I hope you all enjoy this long and often resurrected thread.

Holy crap. Depending on how you slice it, this zombie has been re-animated 5 or 6 times.

I’ve been posting here 9 years without admitting to that and I’m certainly not going to suddenly relveal myself now.

CRAP! Missed the Edit Window!

What I meant to say in my above post was that, yes, I too wonder about this mysterious man and I have no inside information to share whatsoever. I suppose we’ll never know the full story.

Fornicators.

Epic thread!

RDS in NC, if you’re still reading this and are concerned about people not believing that you’re the real deal, post something on your FB status like “Here’s a shoutout to the SDMB” or something similar then post a link here.

I guess I can simply unsubscribe!

Clearly you have not met the Internet. Internet, this is draddard; draddard, this is the Internet.

On this very messageboard we had someone pretending to be a quadriplegic who then pretended to be someone else reporting that the first person had died and then pretended to be the first person again claiming that the second person was hoaxing us and the whole thing turned out to be an elaborate if somewhat desperate attention-getting exercise, as far as any of us can tell.

So while this says nothing about whether Duffy is Duffy or someone pretending to be Duffy, trust me when I say that there are a large number of sad, sad people out there who will say anything just to get a brief moment of attention from a group of complete strangers.

Here endeth the lesson.

I suppose I have to agree with you Gyrate, in that there are plenty of nutty people out there who want to feel included so bad that they pretend to be someone they are not. I do find it interesting that “Duffy” has not posted anything since being called out. I was hoping to have a nice back and forth with him about dear old dad. Oh well, some people act like possums and some of us act like lions!

Well shucks … I have learned some new things about Strode the street preacher (i.e. his nickname from his youth) and for a brief minute I thought “FriarTed” could have been this infamous bible thumper all along. But once I logged in and reviewed the profile, I quickly realized I was very wrong. Still waiting on that new post from the Duffster. Won’t the real Duffy Strode please stand up … please stand up???

I’m really surprised @ Duffey’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ryan.d.strode :smack: He appears to be the antithesis of what he use to be here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkxqWp117eM&feature=youtu.be

I found that a while back, but I decided he deserved his privacy. Since he wasn’t posting “Yeah, I was that kid” I didn’t see any reason to.

What on Earth about me made draddard think I might be him?

My guess is Duffey doesn’t want to have anything to do with the kid he once was. Although I do wonder what made him change his thinking and I wonder if his brother and sister are still preaching too? In fact I did find his sister’s Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/pepper.strode And it appears she’s not as religious as she use to be too. And to my surprise it appears his brother Matthew is dead now  :frowning: https://www.facebook.com/search/str/Matthew%20Strode/keywords_top

Ted, I’ve been meaning to mention this for some years now…

Matt is not dead. He is still boxing in the Carolinas.

Interesting! Do you have any more information for us?

Per this he 's 32 and has started boxing again in 2015 after a 9 year layoff from 2006.

Not any more. He had a few years as Tory party leader when they didn’t know which way to turn to deal with Tony Blair, became Foreign Secretary when the Tories got back in, and has now retired from day-to-day politics, as far as I know.

I paid a visit there. I’ve fought off the temptation to ask him what he thinks about back then. Recent posts do mention his Christian faith but not in some weird way. So I’m just leaving him & his family alone.

I remember living in Charlotte in the late 80s, and seeing a little boy scream preaching to people walking downtown on their lunch breaks. The news media covered him daily. He was 10, 11, or 12 years old and calling people whores and fornicators as they walked by.

It was legal, protected speech, doubly protected because it was religious. So the couldn’t make him stop. I was watching a documentary about Westboro Baptist Church, remembered this boy (the techniques and subject matter were similar, but the Strode boy had no signs), and wondered what happened to him. I’m glad he grew up and is now safe.
