Those screaming goat videos that went viral on YouTube a few months back - I just accepted them at face value. ‘Sure, those are real goats making those sounds.’
But then, today, as I showed the screaming goat clips to a friend who had never seen them before (!), he expressed his skepticism, saying ‘Those have to be dubbed.’
Well, fellow Dopers, there is the question. Are there really goats out there in the wide world who produce these sounds that sound like human screams, or is it yet another computer trick that has preyed upon my gullible and trusting nature?
Yes. I was just at the county ag fair the other day. Goats everywhere, making all kinds of noises, some of them just like those. The sheep were making similar noises when they were getting sheared.
There’s a small zoo / wildlife preserve / thingy I’ve visited a few times that has a handful of goats with a really human-sounding noise. They sound exactly like a grumpy old man yelling, “Bah!”
I turned it off after about 3 seconds, because* this is my fucking miserable existence!* My wife has one out there that shrieks like a burned infant! Fucking goats…
And people wonder why I crank the sound system out in my garage at 120db while playing drums.
(of course, I know its to cover up the bad drumming, but I blame the goats)
I have a friend who recently made me watch this shit. I fail to see what’s supposed to be funny about it. Her songs are horrible enough without having random goat noises inserted into them.
It would only work on a so-bad-it’s-good song (e.g., “Ice Ice Baby.”) Otherwise it’s pure torture listening to this garbage, no matter how much you try to improve it with goat sounds. Kanye West was right to interrupt her award acceptance speech a few years ago.
