Dropped my LGV30 and was told the glass screen would cost $200+ to replace. Wonder if it would work to just put a screen protector over the entire glass screen as a giant tape to hold it together? The screen still registers touch, etc. just fine.
Yes, that would work. I haven’t done it with a screen protector, but I am doing the same thing with clear packing tape over the corner of my iPad where the screen cracked. It works fine.
If the screen works without a protector, then it will work with one.
I did it on the other order. I had a screen protector on my phone when I dropped it on cobblestones and it bounced several times before skittering to a halt. The screen had two big overlapping radial fractures, and the glass was in scores of pieces.
The screen protector held everything in place, except a couple little chips at the edges. It was also a smooth surface that didn’t risk cutting my finger.
I got the screen replaced, but it worked fine for the several weeks I used it until I got around to doing that.
Yeah, both packing tape and a glass protector are good. All I want to add is apply the screen protector as best you can in one go. Don’t try to lift it off to reposition it in case it pulls parts of the underlying broken screen up with it.
You might want to use one of the tempered glass protectors rather than a plastic film one. My wife’s iPhone developed a crack in the screen. I put one of the tempered glass protectors on it and it works fine. I just changed her phone’s battery the other night; as part of the process I had to pry off the screen using a suction cup. I was able to remove the screen and put it back without any further damage.
I have seen ONE instance where when the protective glass was added to the cracked screen, a shard of the screen was indented and acting as a screen press underneath the protector. So this will NOT work is if some part of the glass is pressing inward in a way that acts as a screen touch. You end up with whatever’s under that spot being continually clicked.
Apply the film/glass protector carefully without pressing the glass inward, is the key here.
On the other hand, most of my friends/acquaintances run around half the time with their cracked screens protected with a good tempered glass protector, and it works fine.
