Screw France

Clint is really doing an elaborate analysis of the Netherlands. He’s taking ages to post it.

Ten to one it’s going to feature a crude pun about dikes.

There will be no elaborate analysis of the Netherlands, just as there was no elaborate analysis of France.

Your snobbish attitude seems typical these days.

It’s “cool” to turn your nose up at the United States. I think it’s jealousy, personally.

No, I think we’re just turning our nose up at rank provincialism.

And Kansas. I hate that state.

BWAHAHAHA!! Do you have any idea who you’re talkin’ to, sport? I’m the America rules! guy, the uber-patriot.

And, no, Europeans are not jealous (and the correct word is “envious,” anyway) of the US. If anything the stereotype of Americans is that we are loudmouthed, pig-ignorant, monoglot, crude, unsophisticated boors. Europeans tedn to pity us because they think we are grossly uninformed about world events and react to criticism of our policies with mindless jingoism Thank you so much for keeping that image of our antion alive with your posts.

Ya rube.

It wouldn’t be my first choice of places to live, either, but you’ve gotta do what youv’e gotta do. At least I’m trying to convince others that it’s “lovely”. However, unless I was wealthy, there’s nowhere in Europe I’d rather live.

Where happen I live changes nothing about the snobbish attitudes in Europe.

I was in a bit of a hurry…that should read, “Where I happen to live”. Duh.

Dude, this Yank has been to Wichita, as well as most of the rest of the country. Wichita is nothing to be jealous of - the word “desolate” comes to mind. When the highlight of one’s weekend is a visit to Shapler’s Western Wear, you might as well get drunk and imagine you’re in Oklahoma instead.

You really do need to get out more - in the name of fighting ignorance, don’tcha know.

Just where was I snobbish?

I’ve been to the US. California, mostly, but I’ve been to Arizona and Georgia as well. I love the US. But like every country, it’s got its pros and cons. One of the main cons I can think of is the current administration and its eagerness to go to war. If I criticize said administration, how does that make me snobbish?

gobear has a point, you know. You’re sadly reenforcing a stereotype that is luckily dying out in Europe: that of the dumb, ugly American. Most Europeans with a functioning brain know this stereotype doesn’t cover all, or even most, Americans. Which makes it even more painful to witness one firsthand, even if it’s only on a message board.

No, but changing the way you think and adopting a more open and inquisitive attitude about the rest of the world might convince European posters that you are not a complete tool. The thing is, you’re posting as if you can have some basis to compare Europe to Kansas when the fact is that you know bupkes about any nation outside of the US (and probably precious little about the US outside your county)

Adn NObody is envious of anyone living in Kansas!

Yeah, sure. You’re the type of guy people think of when they hear the term “red-blooded American male”.

American voicing displeasure with Europe = ignorant buffoon

European voicing displeasure with USA = culturally superior intellectual.

Indeed I am, buster, ask any Doper who’s met me. Quite a few have. I may be gay, but I’m as masculine, redblooded, and loud an American male as you’re likely to meet.

Depends on HOW said American voices his displeasure, Clint. Comments on poor plumbing and bad hygene might not be the best debating tools.

“When will you hamburger-munching gun waving low-IQ cowboys realise you don’t own the fucking planet? Go back to your superficial reality TV shows, your loud and obknoxiously large SUV’s, and your fat ugly wives. I wouldn’t live in the US if they paid me $10 million a day.”

Would anyone call me a “culturally superior intellectual” when I voiced my opinion in such terms, Clint?

American voicing displeasure with Europe with absolutely no knowledge of the subject = ignorant buffoon

European voicing displeasure with USA = culturally superior intellectual-- Not true. Some European posters can be clueless knobs, as well. Ever met Pjen

Is this the BBQ Pit or what?

Isn’t “Survivor”, along with so many other reality shows, an invention of Endemol Entertainment, based in, er, um, the Netherlands? Who should be apologizing to whom, Goldmember?

Yes it is, Clint. And you have every right to make a complete ass of yourself here. Do proceed.

Touche. I never claimed my “Dumb European Immitation” was fact based. In fact, it’s a lot like Clint’s “Dumb American” schtick, in that it’s not.

You don’t have to visit a city/country to acquire knowledge of the area. Nothing replaces actually going there, but the fact that I haven’t been to a country doesn’t mean I know nothing about it.

Even typing that I know absolutely nothing about Europe is silly, just as if I stated that a European knows nothing about the USA.

Anyway, we’ll never see eye-to-eye on France. It could just be a left-wing vs. right-wing issue, although I usually fall somewhere in the middle.
