Screw Greg Abbott {Texas Governor}

Chances are it was some other less-vaccinated bloke, not Abbott, who brought Covid to the event and shared it around.

Unvaccinated people who’ll get a big ass bill for their Regeneron treatment if they even get one.

I worried about that so much with my Mom, we held off putting her in a memory care until it was too late provide any decent stimulation. Thanks Covid.

Yep. He gets the treatment, and the rest of us can have the mortuary trucks. Ain’t Texas grand?!

Benjamin Franklin. Really well.

Yeeehaw!!

I hope he gets good and sick, and dies really soon.

Hardly seems fair after all he’s done for the virus.

Indeed. Fuck that worthless shit Greg Abbott.

I’d say that’s cruel and hateful, except that if he died and his death was an effective cautionary tale that led other people to take proper precautions and actually listen to authoritative medical advice, then it would be a small sacrifice in the scheme of things.

The trouble is, whether he lives or dies, the outcome will be the same. Some combination of:

(a) Vaccinations don’t work!
(b) COVID isn’t that bad!

It will be (a) alone if he dies. (a) and (b) if he lives. Either way, the only real solution is MORE GUNS*.

*ETA: Let me clear that up. I don’t mean to advocate for armed revolt. Rather, I mean to parody a similar catch-22 with Republicans and guns. Lots of crime? We need more guns so people can defend themselves. Very little crime? Clearly all these guns are working and so we can have more of them (or gun control just never comes up as an issue to be considered with such little crime, either way).

Abbott dying for the cause of covid awareness is a price I’m willing to pay.

Remember who’s waiting in the wings. If Abbott dies, Dan Patrick becomes governor. Bad as Abbott is, I suspect Patrick could be even worse.

This made me laugh right out loud in the waiting room at the car place where I’m getting my tires rotated.

But of course you are correct. More guns are the solution to everything. The nec plus ultra, the alpha and the omega, and any other foreign or domestic expression you can come up with. We will not be safe until every man, woman, child, fetus, dog, cat, and all inclusive and exclusive genders are armed with guns. And this includes the armless.

That’s a toughie… Better the devil you know? I don’t know.

The number of deaths that can be already be linked to him, plus the others that are coming - many that are children, make it really hard to feel any sympathy. Especially when I look at the fact that he’s getting the Regeneron treatment. I don’t wish his death, but long COVID might be instructive.

It’ll probably turn out like this- he’ll go to Maralargo, kiss the holy ring, and not only get cured from covid he’ll walk away from his wheelchair.

Suspect? That’s a virtual certainty.

Abbott has historically been a moderate Republican, and in fact has pretty much been that until this spring, when Don Huffines and Allen West announced they were running for Governor as Republicans, with rhetoric that Abbott wasn’t a real Republican (yes, there are billboards out in the sticks for Huffines that say that), or that he’s too moderate for Texas.

So Abbott has apparently gone screaming to the right in hopes of staving off those primary challengers. His recent actions w.r.t. masks and COVID are more reprehensible to me as a result. I’d give him a tiny bit of grace if he were a true believer and believed his own bullshit. But this is entirely a political move intended to shore up his right-wing credentials in the eyes of the voters who vote in the Texas GOP primaries. It’s entirely self-serving and mercenary. At the expense of the larger population of the state outside of the GOP primary voters.

Patrick has been a dickbag since day 1. Which in one sense is refreshing, in that he hasn’t changed his tune or toned his assholishness up or down, unlike the majority of politicians. On the other hand, it would mean that as Governor, we’d get more governance like “primary-challenge Abbott”, not 2019 mostly sane Abbott.

The problem is, Abbott was fully vaccinated and still got sick. This throws a dangerous wrench in the pro-vaccine message. Anti-vaxxers are going to fully latch on to this as “See, vaccines don’t work!” I’m already seeing this spin by some conservatives on Reddit.

Had Abbott been defiantly unvaccinated, and got sick, that would be a quite different thing.

It’s not tough at all. We know both devils.

Patrick is worse. And even if he goes down, we’ve got nearly as bad cretins behind him in the President Pro Tempore of the Texas Senate, the Speaker of the House, and then AG Paxton (probably the worst of all of them).

Abbott is probably the best of the lot, and that doesn’t say much for Texas.

As far as we know, he is asymptomatic and was positive on his daily screen. So that means the Regeneron is being used as a prophylactic therapy. That’s the creepy part. So he just gets monoclonal antibodies that other people don’t get just in case or he really is showing symptoms and is lying about it.

He absolutely is. Birdwell, Phelan and Paxton are all pretty bad, with Phelan being probably the best of the lot, not being an evangelical Christian (he’s Catholic). Still pretty conservative, but not religiously motivated (Birdwell) and not an absolute smarmy crook (Paxton).
