Scum and villainy: Republicans already throwing Palin under the bus.

Politics is a competitive and nasty business. Rising political stars are not just going to patiently wait for her to get her chance. Her appeal is to a narrow and rabid arm of the party. Her base is not wide enough to get elected nationally. She would have to grow a lot in knowledge and respect. Many think she is too stupid and provincial to do that. They do not want to waste the time educating her. She may be too stupid. Can’t put lipstick on that pig.

ZOMG! SEXIST! MISOGYNIST! HOW DARE YOU!

Oh, wait…it’s over? November 4th?

Never mind!

Palin was quite obviously making her play to become the annointed one of the Republican party toward the end of the campaign. She went completely off-message and started rabble-rousing.

If this was obvious to bystanders, it was certainly obvious to the Republican politicos. She is not being thrown under the bus as a scapegoat for the campaign’s failure – she is being thrown under the bus because she’s a threat to the politicos running the party.

Had she been willing to work with the party honchos, I am certain we would be seeing a completely different spin now.

Skald? I thought he was into bees or monkeys.

Skald’s not the only evil overlord around, you know.

You don’t have to tell him I said that, though.

I think they are scared of her. A dedicated base can’t win national elections by itself, but a dedicated base operating off the cult of personality CAN win primaries. (Obama had the dedicated base, the cult of personality, but he seems to have significant substance behind it compared to Gov. Palin). The GOP does not need the world to see some of the racist, violent folks (that are certainly the minority of the party). They don’t need to pit rural (The “real” America) against urban - that won’t win elections. They don’t need to pit God-fearing Christians (with the narrow definition of Christian) against both religious diversity and liberal (even moderate) Christian traditions.

Kneecap her now. Then you can continue to run stealth conservatives with the veneer of moderation - Pawlenty, Romney (even Huckabee)

You forgot Quebec and New England.

And Saskatchewan.

It’s such a funny name it’s got to be a country.

Paging Skald the Rhymer, Skald the Rhymer please attend the white courtesy phone, Paging Skald the Rhymer…

Skald picks up the black courtesy phone.

Now you’ve done it! You’ve gone and said his name three times!

backs a safe distance away from Frodo

fuck that, you shouldn’t be able to graduate from 8th grade!! Canada, USA, and Mexico. how hard is that???

At least they’re throwing Palin under the front of the bus. They threw Colin Powell under the back of the bus…

Newsweek reporters have been with both campaigns writing a story on the condition that it not be published until after the election, saw an interview with one writer on the Today Show this morning. The writer said that McCain wanted Lieberman as VP, but the party said no because Lieberman was pro-choice. So it almost seems that McCain said “You want a fully conservative VP, here’s the most conservative you can get!”

He also said Hillary’s and McCain’s campaigns were a mess. Obama’s was very well run. Hopefully he runs the country that well.

I really don’t understand this remark. How could you think I would not find out about it? Have I ever said ANYTHING to indicate that I don’t have all your computers bugged so I can figure out which if you keeps betraying me to Aquaman?

Anyway, you can explain it to the velociraptors when they arrive. I have directed them not to eat you unless absolutely necessary, but nonetheless you may wish to (a) refrain from any sudden motions while they are there, (b) try to avoid smelling like meat, and (c) move to Atlantis.

Also,if you guys could all type in your Visa card numbers, that would be great. I need to build some new death rays, and dilithium is expensive.

I wondered why it benefited the campaign staff to leak all of those comments about her before election day. All I can think of is that it was a CYA move to save their careers and not get blamed for the loss. I can understand blaming her after the election but not before.

Sorry, I hit submit to soon. I have more to offer than snark.

To the OP: I just watched the video, and this is not necessarily dishonorable behavior. It could represent a conscious attempt to prod the party away from its current destructive, venal, and anti-intellectual behavior. Many Republicans are profoundly uncomfortable with the path the GOP embarked upon with the ascendency of Newt Gingrich to the speakership backin '94. Mickey Edwardsis not unique.

They saw where things were going and also saw that Palin was positioning herself as the new Queen Bee of the GOP. The people who actually run the GOP (the business interests) did NOT want an actual, sincere populist conservative Christian to get the bit in her teeth. They knew they had to undercut her. Though they did leak a few bits and pieces before election day, the major stuff (like in the Newsweek article) was being held back until after. They do NOT want Sarah Palin to be the frontrunner of the GOP…she’s not from the correct wing of the party.

Andrew Sullivan is still pushing the non-release of her medical records as promised. I don’t believe the phony pregnancy angle so what could be in those records she doesn’t want the public to know?

It wouldn’t surprise me if she’s had one or more abortions.
