SDMB 2012 NFL Mock Draft!!!

None of the mock draft sites I visited today (all recently updated) had Wright below the #26 pick. So news of him dropping is new to me. I knew he had a bad combine, but that his pro-day had really impressed.

I have to head to work, I thought I’d have enough time for my pick this round. I’ll make it on lunch, so it won’t be a very long delay.

I sent kidchameleon a PM a few hours ago to remind him that he’s on the clock. He hasn’t posted at all since the first day of the recruitment thread so I’ll probably step in and make a proxy pick for him if say 5:30 comes and goes without any contact.

I am going to be out all evening, away from the Internet. So if it gets to the Texans, Omni, give me 5 minutes or so, and then feel free to use my pick on the topmost name on my board. Thanks.

I’ll chime in later with explanations of why I had that guy, there.

Well every mock I’ve read lately has Dallas taking the best available long snapper at this spot, so I think we can all just agree and move things along.

Jerry Jones needs to replenish the most successful part of his franchise. He should use the pick on a cheerleader.

Actually, I just noticed that he posted in this thread yesterday so presumably he’s still paying attention. I’ll let it slide for a while longer in case he’s only able to get online after business hours at home.

And most of the mock draft sites still have Zooey Deschanel on the boards when Dallas picks at 14. The pick makes a lot of sense.

I know she’s got the talent and some very nice measurables, but I get the sense that she’s a try hard, non-stop motor kinda prospect, and not the raw talent with huge upside (or huge UPsides, if you know what I mean). I also think her combine numbers may reflect that.

The singing/acting thing also throws up a few red flags about her commitment to the game. I’m not sure she’s got the heart for it.

There has to be a few small school project cheerleaders who may make a difference after a few years on the bench.

I’ll take a non-stop motor over raw talent any day, if you know what I mean.

I think I do. That’s probably why I’m laughing.

**13.Dallas Cowboys **
**Mark Barron
S, Alabama **
The good DTs have fallen off the board, so the Cowboys go with the best defensive player on their board, safety Mark Barron. This should upgrade their defensive backfield and make their pass rush seem better.

15. Philadelphia Eagles
Luke Kuechly
LB, Boston College

This is the pick everyone in the world saw coming a month ago, then when Fletcher Coc started rising up boards, here comes Kuechly again.

He fills a big need for the Eagles, but with DeMeco Ryans coming in, the Eagles can slide him over to the Sam until it’s time for him to take over in the middle. And he’s a perfect fix for so many of the biggest problems the Philly defense had last season. Assuming that Juan Castillo doesn’t decide to play him at CB, of course.

Other options: Fletcher Cox is probably the Eagles target, but I doubt they move up to take him now that he’s climbing up boards. Dontari Poe doesn’t fit what the Eagles need at DT to risk Mamula 2.0. If neither Cox nor Kuechly are here at 15, the Eagles will almost certainly trade down.

How it really plays out: Poe or a trade down, the other options get anagged.

Did he really mean this, or did he forget he has the Jets too?

I do? Who the hell gave me the Jets?

Very well. Sorry for the wait. Give me a minute or two, and I’ll have it up.

No one ever reads instructions these days…

O.K. looks like the Jets really need a Right Tackle and, like everybody else, a rush linebacker or end. They run a 3-4, so let’s look for a 3-4 outside backer. Courtney Upshaw, LB Alabama is right there, but looks like most of the teams that are looking at him in the 16-24 range, think of him as a 4-3 backer. SAM, it looks like. Looks like a great player though, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Jets did take him here.

I’m not sure if drafting a guy to play RT is over-drafting. The Jets are set at LT with Ferguson, and perhaps a decent RT to replace Wayne Hunter might be the way to go? So, with that in mind I was going to have the Jets draft: (16th) Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford.

From Doug Farrar’s description, I’m not sold on this guy at the 16th pick. Still, he’s bright, he’s only going to be asked to play RT, and he has some upside. (???)

Christ, I really don’t like this pick; the only thing is that all of the other tackles are worse. Mike Adams can’t stay off the weed…

Screw it, I’m going to swing for the fences and take:

(16th) Bobby Massie, Ole’ Miss, RT.

Doesn’t this sound better for a first rounder that you know is only going to play RT.?

Massie, it is.

That picks probably going to take a little heat, but there’s always one in the draft that does so this year maybe it’ll be the Jets. Who knows, it might even work out like Alualu did.

It’s Not Rocket Surgery sent me some proxy picks for the Bengals a bit ago because he was expected to be out tomorrow but I’m hoping he’s still around tonight to pull the trigger and share his logic himself. I’m heading to work in about 45 minutes and will put in the before before I leave but I’ll give him a little while to jump in if he’s still up tonight.

IRL, I think if the Jets were interested in him, they’d try to trade back and pick him up at a more reasonable number than 16. As I’m doing this ASAP, and not able to evaluate trades, I’m not unhappy getting him here.

How likely is it that pure outside 3-4 pass rush specialists can be found outside the 1st round? It seems the Jets would try to trade back (if they don’t trade up for Reiff or, LOL Kalil) to maximize their 2nd and 3rd rounders. I guess it’s which glaring deficiency needs to be plugged first: their abysmal RT play when Woody went down, or their somewhat anemic pass rush. One thing to consider for their RT: with his Holiness coming to New York, run blocking is going to have be an emphasis. I think Massie (or Martin, honestly) could be really valuable for that.
