When I asked you and Jules to come up with a draft order 2 years ago, you guys ended up in the top 2 spots.
So I can see why you’d be suspicious, what with your previous collusion and all.

Ha, I remember that. Good times.
No, that’s definitely the best way to handle the random draft order. Who are you leaning towards at #1 Beef?
Foster, barring anything unusual in preseason. But I have Foster/AP/Jamal Charles pretty close.
I’m willing to hear offers for the #1 overall pick btw.
Today’s the big day and after cramming a ton of preseason football into my schedule I still know about as much as I did before football returned.
I have already drafted for two of my leagues, so right now I am halfway through with my fantasy drafts. So far, the most interesting picks have come at the very beginning of Round 1. It appears that people are having trouble deciding which top RB to go with. As Beef posted earlier, Foster/AP/Charles has been throwing the top pick off and making for some interesting mid-round decisions.
The biggest surprise for me has been how high people keep picking up Vick. Eagles hate aside, I would be way too uncomfortable to scoop Vick as early as I have seen him go. There is no doubt that he will put up some nice numbers but for how long? The way he plays, it is almost a certainty that some time will be missed. Still, I can see the appeal if they have a light schedule to start out.
WR is shaping up to be a fun position to fill, with lots of speed and talent out there to consider. It will also be interesting to say how AJ Green and Julio Jones do over the course of the season.
This draft usually the most entertaining out of my annual leagues so I am looking forward to tonight. See you all there!
Jeez, I got the #3 pick. Too much pressure! Now I’ll be expected to have a good season.
I’ve noticed in drafting my other teams that the change in this years Bye Week format makes putting a team together a little more difficult. I think they have taken out the Weeks: 3, 4, and 10 from the Bye’s.
I had to pay close attention to my first fantasy team because of the Bye Week issue. I got halfway through and started noticing that a lot of my key players were off at the same time.
Draft open. Still having trouble getting the app to load.
That was a very quick draft. Unfortunately we had 3 people autodraft (Taz, brianjedi, and ellis dee) and Ol’Gaffer dropped out somewhere in the mid rounds. I’d consider that attendance level unacceptable and if there was a problem based on moving the draft up a day people should’ve spoke up. Ellis Dee is without power I think, so understandable.
Anyway, I was offering up the #1 overall pick up to the last minute, and Kelly’s Heroes/Munch took it. He got my #1 and #72 for his #11 and and #35. Ended up being Ray Rice and Tim Hightower for Roddy White and Dwayne Bowe.
According to the fantasy value calculator I lost in that trade by a decent bit. I thought it was fairly even. I also probably overdrafted Roddy White, so all in all I didn’t do too much with my #1 overall pick.
I dunno. You got
Roddy White
Dwayne Bowe
and I got:
Ray Rice
Tim Hightower
Seems pretty even.
I’m ok with it, just commenting on the projected fantasy trade value based on this fantasy calculator. Which is just one take on fantasy value. I’m happy with what I got - White is possibly the most consistent player in fantasy and doesn’t get nearly enough credit for it. Bowe is one of the most inconsistent - but when he’s on, he’s on. It’ll be an interesting WR duo, and I’m happy to have my RB/flex with Hillis/Forte.
I had the #5 pick.
(5) Rashard Mendenhall (Pit - RB)
I liked this pick, but I was hoping someone in the top 4 picks would’ve taken CJ letting someone else fall.
(20) Tom Brady (NE - QB)
I decided to switch up my usual strategy and draft a Qb early, instead of a top tier WR.
(29) Steven Jackson (StL - RB)
I’ve got Jackson in another league. I think he will improve on his TD total from last year. Still i’m not thrilled with the pick.
(44) Jermichael Finley (GB - TE)
I also don’t go TE so early, and looking back I could have waited a couple rounds and gotten Clark.
(53) Stevie Johnson (Buf - WR)
Hopefully last year wasn’t a fluke.
(68) Pierre Garcon (Ind - WR)
meh.
(77) Fred Jackson (Buf - RB)
Solid running back. Always puts up the same numbers, so you know what you got.
(92) Braylon Edwards (SF - WR)
(101) Danny Amendola (StL - WR)
(116)Davone Bess (Mia - WR)
Realizing I haven’t really gotten any sure thing WR’s I went with a couple possession/ high catch total guys, and a homerun hitter with bad hands.
(125) Ronnie Brown (Phi - RB)
Was going to grab Ben Tate here but Beef got him 4 pick earlier. I like Brown I think he’ll get some playing time, and can do some similar things as McCoy.
(140) New Orleans (NO - DEF)
(149) Colt McCoy (Cle - QB)
Was looking at the best matchup for Brady’s byeweek.
(164) Aaron Hernandez (NE - TE)
Maybe Brady will throw two TD’s to him on Finley’s byeweek
(173) Josh Brown (StL - K)
Jesus Christ, missing both the auction draft and the all-pro draft? Irene’s a cunt.

(4) Jamaal Charles (KC - RB)
I was not sure what would happen with this pick. My other leagues have been leaving Rice and Foster for the 4-6 picks. I was happy to get Charles here and did not have to think at all. Kansas City looks ready for a good year and he will definitely get the chance to make big things happen.
(21) Philip Rivers (SD - QB)
A consistent performer who produces big numbers. I was figuring to get either him or Romo with this pick. I have had both Romo and Rivers before and Rivers always does well for me.
(28) Ahmad Bradshaw (NYG - RB)
The Giants might stress me out from time to time but Bradshaw is a productive RB.
(45) Kenny Britt (Ten - WR)
Kenny Britt is a talented receiver on a team that will air it out. It also helps that he went to Rutgers. This was an easy decision for me.
(52) Wes Welker (NE - WR)
If Welker stays healthy, he will get catches. He might not get those crazy big plays but he will definitely get the ball. A consistent receiver who gets lots of looks means that I will not need to waiver wire hunt for a fill in receiver from week to week like I have in other seasons.
(69) Mike Sims-Walker (StL - WR)
I have no idea what he will do this season. He has so much potential but it is hard to know what to expect. I do feel good about him as a bye-week or injury option.
(76) BenJarvus Green-Ellis (NE - RB)
Awesome name and a solid backup RB option for my fantasy team. I will absolutely use him as a flex when the Pats are playing a weak Rush-Defense.
(93) Cedric Benson (Cin - RB)
Honestly, I was surprised that he was still available. After making a run on receivers, I realized that I should get an RB for week 6. That is when my number one WR, RB and QB are on Bye. His off field issues appear as if they will be completely resolved before the beginning of the season. This might make him a nice flex option for me from week to week.
(100) Dallas (Dal - DEF)
Not quite sure how they will start out but I expect the Cowboys Defense to have some solid weeks once they get used to Rob Ryan as the new coordinator.
(117) Dustin Keller (NYJ - TE)
Not much to say about this one. I needed a tight end eventually and his odds of putting up steady points are good due to the Jets style of play.
(124) Cam Newton (Car - QB)
He is not going to do anything ridiculous this season but you never know. Newton’s preseason was decent enough. Nothing spectacular but I figure he will be a solid option in week 6 when Rivers is on Bye.
(141) Derrick Mason (NYJ - WR)
(148) Deion Branch (NE - WR)
Neither player is going to produce superstar stats but there is the potential for big weeks against teams with weaker secondaries.
(165) Emmanuel Sanders (Pit - WR)
I already dropped Sanders for Hester. I watched him with the Steelers a bit last year so I had hope but this preseason has been weak. No use for a maybe when I know that Hester will at least have return numbers.
(172) Alex Henery (Phi - K)
Kicker is a position that I would have waited on if there was someone else that I wanted to draft. Since there was not really anyone that I wanted at the time, I went with the Rookie Kicker.
1 (1). Ray Rice (RB-BAL). It may seem like stretch to grab Rice with the #1 pick, and it is. But on the other side of the coin, it’s an incredibly safe pick, as these things go. There are too many questions surrounding the others up there - Foster’s hurt, AP is a little bit of an injury risk, and Charles (who I also love) is a very close #2. But Rice is consistent, and does very well in a (1/2)PPR league. I traded up for this, so I drastically improved my first pick, and alleviated any risk in doing so.
2 (14). Aaron Rodgers (QB-GB). I could have grabbed Fitz here, as I like having elite WRs in such leagues - but I wasn’t picking again for quite a while, and feel strongly about having an elite QB in this league. Turnovers really hurt in 4pt TD leagues, and Rodgers doesn’t give the ball up much. Plus, he’s always good for a couple TDs on the ground, which really help.
4 (38). Dez Bryant (WR-DAL). He was the best WR available on my board. I was hoping for DeSean, but he was taken right before me. I think Dez deals with his inner demons (i.e. being an asshole), and connects with Romo plenty this season.
5 (59). Dallas Clark (TE-IND). In a PPR league, the top TEs can really separate from the crowd. Clark really flew under the radar in this draft because of his injury last season (if you can say the 4th TE off the board is “under the radar”). I’m happy with the pick.
6 (62). Percy Harvin (WR-MIN). And my first real questionable pick. Sure, they say that *someone *has to catch the ball in Minnesota, but that is that really true?
6 (72). Tim Hightower (RB-WAS). A little bit of a reach for Hightower, but I was really targeting him, and there just weren’t very many RBs left on the board with a clear starting job with few shared carries.
7 (83). Pittsburgh (DEF). I don’t normally pick defenses early, but I was pretty happy with my starting roster, didn’t see two WRs I HAD to have, and didn’t expect to see backup QBs coming off the board any time soon. I’d rather take a top player at a roster slot I needed filled rather than grab a backup that’ll play just a few times for me.
8 (86). Steve Smith (WR-CAR). This is a pretty shitty pick. But the rest of the WRs that were taken in the next few rounds all seem to be absolute headaches, and I’d rather get pissed at a shitty situation rather than a shitty player. But Plax may have been a better call here.
9 (107). Matt Cassel (QB-KC). He was horrendous the first half of the season last year, then turned it on. With Charles a fulltime back and Bowe having developed some chemistry with Cassel last year, he’s a great backup QB to have.
10 (110). CJ Spiller (RB-BUF). He’s not the primary back, but he’ll get both carries and return opportunities, which earn considerable points. He’s also good out of the backfield for some PPR action.
11 (131). Robert Meachem (WR-NO). Pretty much the exact opposite of my Harvin pick. Everyone’s going to catch the ball in NO, you just don’t know when.
12 (134). Darren Sproles (RB-NO). See Spiller, CJ.
13 (155). James Jones (WR-GB). See Meachem, Robert.
14 (158). Atlanta (DEF). Apparently I felt the need to have a 2nd defense. Atlanta fits that mold pretty well - bonus points for not having the same bye as Pittsburgh.
15 (179). Billy Cundiff (K-BAL). He’s a kicker.
This has been a crazy start to the NFL season. The Giants looked like they forgot how to play football while the Redskins came rolling out as if they actually did something during the offseason that went beyond booze and parties.
Anyway, enough whining about the Giants crap start. Fantasy wise, this was a ridiculous weekend. Players like Cam Newton (worlds better than “a solid backup option”) shocked a lot of people while others were serious letdowns. Despite all this I actually would have hit my projected points nearly dead on if Kenny Britt had not decided to become a favorite of Hasselbeck.
Currently I have 7pts on Beef with Welker left to play, facing off against the New England D. This is actually the first week I can remember where I actually need the same player in all 4 leagues I participate in (including the two SDMB leagues I am in) to do poorly. I hate that the NE D is more than capable of having a serious night against Miami. Here’s hoping Welker lights it up so I don’t have to worry.
Reminder: We use a waiver system after the games begin so that it’s not the person closest/fastest to their computer who gets any important player due to breakout/injury/etc. Yahoo has two options: put all free agents on waivers at kickoff of the first game. What sucks about that is that if there’s a Thursday game, you wouldn’t be able to go in on Saturday and swap out an injured player for his backup for the Sunday game - all rosters would be locked on Thursday night.
So we use the other option, which is that the waiver period starts at 1pm on Sunday, which is a lot more flexible.
But that also means that there isn’t an automatic way to keep people from snatching up players in the Thursday or Saturday night games. So we just have to not do that, and instead wait until the normal Sunday to Tuesday waiver period to put in a bid for them with the rest of the players.
For people that jumped the gun this week I reverted their pickups and put the players they dropped back on their team. If you want to put in a waiver claim on one of those players that got picked up and then reverted, you can do it until IIRC midnight tomorrow.
