I am a bit surprised at how little attention the auction league gets (I’m including myself in this), when it is the format I like the best in fantasy football. I find it the most interesting, the most challenging, and the most fun of the drafts to do. I am also surprised how different it can be year to year. This year it seemed to me that there were more deals available, with more talent available for cheaper, than in any year past. Which kinda screwed my plan of not worrying as much about saving money until the end as I had in years past. The fluctuation in strategy makes it even more interesting.
But enough about that, let’s get some
DRAFT REVIEWS
Crowley’s Bentley - Hamlet
- A.J. Green (Cin - WR) $43
- Trent Richardson (Cle - RB) $49
- Matt Forte (Chi - RB) $38
- Aaron Rodgers (GB - QB) $42
- Miles Austin (Dal - WR) $6
- Pierre Garcon (Was - WR) $4
- Emmanuel Sanders (Pit - WR) $2
- Ben Tate (Hou - RB) $3
- Giovani Bernard (Cin - RB) $2
- Michael Vick (Phi - QB) $2
- Fred Jackson (Buf - RB) $2
- Malcom Floyd (SD - WR) $1
- Houston (Hou - DEF) $2
- Jordan Cameron (Cle - TE) $1
- Shane Vereen (NE - RB) $2
- Justin Tucker (Bal - K) $1
Underpaid: I liked getting Austin and Garcon as my #2 and #3 WR for $6 and $4. I’m higher on both of them than most people though. I also liked my bargain basement shopping, getting Bernard, Tate, and Jackson all for a couple bucks each.
Overpaid: Everyone else on my fucking roster. Trent Richardson higher than Jamaal Charles and Alfred Morris? Matt Forte more than Gore and MJD? Green and Rodgers were just average, I guess, but I way overspent on guys I don’t particularly like.
Overall: Aaron Rodgers, AJ Green, and Trent Richardson need to carry this team, because the depth isn’t there much at all and I missed out on a ton of value in the middle of the draft. I’m relying on Austin, Garcon, and Cameron way too much, they’d be fine fill in guys but not starters. In retrospect, I’m not too happy with the value of my team. But with Rodgers and Green, I should have a shot every week.
Overly Sentimental
- Le’Veon Bell (Pit - RB) $12
- Julio Jones (Atl - WR) $42
- Lamar Miller (Mia - RB) $16
- Maurice Jones-Drew (Jac - RB) $32
- Vincent Brown (SD - WR) $3
- Marques Colston (NO - WR) $17
- Matt Ryan (Atl - QB) $21
- New England (NE - DEF) $2
- Tony Romo (Dal - QB) $6
- Jermichael Finley (GB - TE) $5
- Josh Gordon (Cle - WR) $4
- Montee Ball (Den - RB) $6
- Anquan Boldin (SF - WR) $4
- Eddie Lacy (GB - RB) $5
- Antonio Brown (Pit - WR) $8
- Blair Walsh (Min - K) $1
Underpaid: I love Eddie Lacy at $5, Colston at $17, and Romo at $6 are all great values. But MJD at $32 is the star, I like him a lot this year. Sure there is some risk with him, but he should be well worth that money.
Overpaid: I like Lamar Miller, but I think $16 is too much for him. And the good news about LeVeon Bell possibly being back by week 2 is offset by the fact he’s injured, not all that good, and his O line sucks. $12 is too much for him. I’m not a Matt Ryan guy, so I think $21 is too much.
Overall: I’m not all that impressed with this team, but I can see the upside. If MJD is back to form. If Lamar Miller is the bell cow in Miami. If Lacy doesn’t get hurt and the Packers actually run the ball. If Bell is healthy. Too many “if’s” for my taste.
New New York Benders
- Danny Amendola (NE - WR) $21
- Andrew Luck (Ind - QB) $16
- David Wilson (NYG - RB) $23
- Rashard Mendenhall (Ari - RB) $10
- Jamaal Charles (KC - RB) $46
- Vincent Jackson (TB - WR) $24
- Matthew Stafford (Det - QB) $7
- Jason Witten (Dal - TE) $13
- Tavon Austin (StL - WR) $9
- Phil Dawson (SF - K) $1
- Cecil Shorts (Jac - WR) $6
- DeSean Jackson (Phi - WR) $5
- Cincinnati (Cin - DEF) $1
- Stevie Johnson (Buf - WR) $4
- Ryan Mathews (SD - RB) $7
- Kyle Rudolph (Min - TE) $3
Underpaid: I love, love, love Jamaal Charles at $46. Stafford at $7 is nice value too. Ryan Matthews is boom/bust, but worth $7.
Overpaid: I expect less ball slinging out of Luck this year, so I’m not sure $16 is good for him. Austin likely won’t ever start for you, so $9 is a bit much for him. And I don’t like David Wilson much at all and there were other, better RB’s in the same price range that I would have preferred.
Overall: There is a ton of upside on this team, but I’m not a fan of most of the players. Austin/Shorts/DeSean Jackson are all the same guy, and you’ll never know which one to start. It is nice that most of the risky players (Wilson. Matthews) are offset by boring guys (Mendenhall. Stevie Johnson). A good team with great depth, I would expect a middle of the road finish or a playoff spot if all goes well.
** Exploding Pancakes**
- Jimmy Graham (NO - TE) $35
- Brandon Marshall (Chi - WR) $37
3 Demaryius Thomas (Den - WR) $34
- Chris Ivory (NYJ - RB) $8
- Larry Fitzgerald (Ari - WR) $28
- Chris Johnson (Ten - RB) $24
- Kenbrell Thompkins (NE - WR) $4
- Colin Kaepernick (SF - QB) $17
- Mark Ingram (NO - RB) $2
- Ahmad Bradshaw (Ind - RB) $5
- Pierre Thomas (NO - RB) $1
- Danny Woodhead (SD - RB) $1
- Bilal Powell (NYJ - RB) $1
- Ronnie Hillman (Den - RB) $1
- Cleveland (Cle - DEF) $1
- Greg Zuerlein (StL - K) $1
Underpaid: Those three WR’s were all fairly priced with good value for all of them. I especially like Fitzy at 28.
Overpaid: I’m not a fan of Colin Kaepernick, nor his fantasy value, so $17 is too much.
Overall: Interesting draft. Those three WR’s and the best TE in the game is a formidable crew to face each week, but they came at the cost of running backs. I’m not a fan of the “draft a lot of cheap RB’s and hope one works out” plan. It seems you have 6 running backs you could start, but none you want to. I’m also not sure I’d want to rely on the waiver pile for a backup QB.
Duke’s Devils
- Tom Brady (NE - QB) $27
- Ray Rice (Bal - RB) $55
- Marshawn Lynch (Sea - RB) $55
- Mike Wallace (Mia - WR) $17
- Peyton Manning (Den - QB) $31
- Vernon Davis (SF - TE) $4
- Stephen Gostkowski (NE - K) $1
- Pittsburgh (Pit - DEF) $1
- Isaac Redman (Pit - RB) $2
- Rueben Randle (NYG - WR) $1
- Ryan Broyles (Det - WR) $1
- Darrius Heyward-Bey (Ind - WR) $1
- Brandon Lloyd (NE - WR) $1
- Jacoby Jones (Bal - WR) $1
- Jermaine Gresham (Cin - TE) $1
- Jonathan Dwyer (Pit - RB) $1
Underpaid: Vernon Davis for $4 was pretty good, but there was a lot of bargain shopping that could pay off (I don’t like any of them except Broyles).
Overpaid: would be shocked if Mike Wallace ended up being worth $17, and spending $58 on the QB position was a waste of money. You’ll have to work out a trade (check with Senor Beef)
Overall: Buying both Brady and Manning was insane (is that autodrafting?) Unless you can work a trade quickly, that’s a waste of money and roster spot. But with Branning, Rice, and Lynch you have a great base of a team, just not a lot of talent surrounding it. Get trading man!
Isotopes
- Dez Bryant (Dal - WR) $45
- Drew Brees (NO - QB) $38
- C.J. Spiller (Buf - RB) $45
- Darren Sproles (NO - RB) $9
- Randall Cobb (GB - WR) $25
- Stevan Ridley (NE - RB) $7
- Eric Decker (Den - WR) $11
- Robert Griffin III (Was - QB) $10
- T.Y. Hilton (Ind - WR) $2
- Jared Cook (StL - TE) $1
- Lance Moore (NO - WR) $2
- David Akers (Det - K) $1
- Michael Floyd (Ari - WR) $1
- Denver (Den - DEF) $1
- Bernard Pierce (Bal - RB) $1
- Zac Stacy (StL - RB) $1
Underpaid: I love the value in this draft. Ridley at $7 could be the best pick of the draft. Spiller at $45 is nice, and TY Hilton and Lance Moore as $2 fliers is great work. Very impressive.
Overpaid: I’m not sure there are enough balls in Denver to make Decker worth $11.
Overall: I really like this team. For that reason, I’m guessing you’ll finish 1-13. The lack of depth could be an issue, but by and large the starting lineup (Brees, Bryant, Cobb, Decker, Spiller and Ridley) is one of the best in the league. Play the TE game week to week could really help, because I’m not sold on Cook at all. Great Job.
