I’m willing to swap any of my RBs besides Chris Johnson (Ahmad Bradshaw is the best of them) plus Larry Fitzgerald for a better RB and worse WR.
I am a bit surprised at how little attention the auction league gets (I’m including myself in this), when it is the format I like the best in fantasy football. I find it the most interesting, the most challenging, and the most fun of the drafts to do. I am also surprised how different it can be year to year. This year it seemed to me that there were more deals available, with more talent available for cheaper, than in any year past. Which kinda screwed my plan of not worrying as much about saving money until the end as I had in years past. The fluctuation in strategy makes it even more interesting.
But enough about that, let’s get some
DRAFT REVIEWS
Crowley’s Bentley - Hamlet
Underpaid: I liked getting Austin and Garcon as my #2 and #3 WR for $6 and $4. I’m higher on both of them than most people though. I also liked my bargain basement shopping, getting Bernard, Tate, and Jackson all for a couple bucks each.
Overpaid: Everyone else on my fucking roster. Trent Richardson higher than Jamaal Charles and Alfred Morris? Matt Forte more than Gore and MJD? Green and Rodgers were just average, I guess, but I way overspent on guys I don’t particularly like.
Overall: Aaron Rodgers, AJ Green, and Trent Richardson need to carry this team, because the depth isn’t there much at all and I missed out on a ton of value in the middle of the draft. I’m relying on Austin, Garcon, and Cameron way too much, they’d be fine fill in guys but not starters. In retrospect, I’m not too happy with the value of my team. But with Rodgers and Green, I should have a shot every week.
Overly Sentimental
Underpaid: I love Eddie Lacy at $5, Colston at $17, and Romo at $6 are all great values. But MJD at $32 is the star, I like him a lot this year. Sure there is some risk with him, but he should be well worth that money.
Overpaid: I like Lamar Miller, but I think $16 is too much for him. And the good news about LeVeon Bell possibly being back by week 2 is offset by the fact he’s injured, not all that good, and his O line sucks. $12 is too much for him. I’m not a Matt Ryan guy, so I think $21 is too much.
Overall: I’m not all that impressed with this team, but I can see the upside. If MJD is back to form. If Lamar Miller is the bell cow in Miami. If Lacy doesn’t get hurt and the Packers actually run the ball. If Bell is healthy. Too many “if’s” for my taste.
New New York Benders
Overpaid: I expect less ball slinging out of Luck this year, so I’m not sure $16 is good for him. Austin likely won’t ever start for you, so $9 is a bit much for him. And I don’t like David Wilson much at all and there were other, better RB’s in the same price range that I would have preferred.
Overall: There is a ton of upside on this team, but I’m not a fan of most of the players. Austin/Shorts/DeSean Jackson are all the same guy, and you’ll never know which one to start. It is nice that most of the risky players (Wilson. Matthews) are offset by boring guys (Mendenhall. Stevie Johnson). A good team with great depth, I would expect a middle of the road finish or a playoff spot if all goes well.
** Exploding Pancakes**
Underpaid: Those three WR’s were all fairly priced with good value for all of them. I especially like Fitzy at 28.
Overpaid: I’m not a fan of Colin Kaepernick, nor his fantasy value, so $17 is too much.
Overall: Interesting draft. Those three WR’s and the best TE in the game is a formidable crew to face each week, but they came at the cost of running backs. I’m not a fan of the “draft a lot of cheap RB’s and hope one works out” plan. It seems you have 6 running backs you could start, but none you want to. I’m also not sure I’d want to rely on the waiver pile for a backup QB.
Duke’s Devils
Underpaid: Vernon Davis for $4 was pretty good, but there was a lot of bargain shopping that could pay off (I don’t like any of them except Broyles).
Overpaid: would be shocked if Mike Wallace ended up being worth $17, and spending $58 on the QB position was a waste of money. You’ll have to work out a trade (check with Senor Beef)
Overall: Buying both Brady and Manning was insane (is that autodrafting?) Unless you can work a trade quickly, that’s a waste of money and roster spot. But with Branning, Rice, and Lynch you have a great base of a team, just not a lot of talent surrounding it. Get trading man!
Isotopes
Underpaid: I love the value in this draft. Ridley at $7 could be the best pick of the draft. Spiller at $45 is nice, and TY Hilton and Lance Moore as $2 fliers is great work. Very impressive.
Overpaid: I’m not sure there are enough balls in Denver to make Decker worth $11.
Overall: I really like this team. For that reason, I’m guessing you’ll finish 1-13. The lack of depth could be an issue, but by and large the starting lineup (Brees, Bryant, Cobb, Decker, Spiller and Ridley) is one of the best in the league. Play the TE game week to week could really help, because I’m not sold on Cook at all. Great Job.
Cobra Kai
Underpaid: I love the value in this draft. Ridley at $7 could be the best pick of the draft. Spiller at $45 is nice, and TY Hilton and Lance Moore as $2 fliers is great work. Very impressive.

Court Jesters
Underpaid: Roddy White at $23 is more than reasonable, but I love Owen Daniels at $1, Greg Jennings at $3, Steve Smith at $6, and BGE at $3. Clear #1 starters on their team for a dollars is great.
Overpaid: I’ve hated the Torrey Smith hype for his entire NFL career. I remember before last year, when he was “in the best shape of his career” and “running precise routes” and “going over the middle”. What happened? Same Torrey Smith. 50 catches, 850 yards and 8 touchdowns. Nice, but not $23 nice. I’m also not sold that Adrian Peterson is $7 to $10 dollars more than the second best running backs. And Greg Olson may be fine, but I think he’s not much better than the $1 TE’s that were taken.
Overall: I really like the bones of this team (Peterson, Jackson, White, Welker/Smith), but I’m not sure Eli and Joe can get it done in the QB position, and I think you need a defense. This team needs to get a bit of help for poor All Day.
Chicago Cutlery
Underpaid:I think Morris at $45 is very good value, and some of those late rounders are good too (DeAngelo for $3 and 49ers for $2). But Bowe at $21 was clearly the best get.
Overpaid: I love me some Calvin Johnson, but spending 23% of your money (and $10 more than the second highest WR) may be troubling.
Overall: IIRC, this was mostly autodraft, with Omni only getting to pick the scrubs. There are way too many Bears on this team, and relying on Cutler to carry this team is just silly. Omni meet Duke’s Devils. Duke’s Devils, this is Omni.You guys need to work something out.
Varlos’ Zzzzzzz
Underpaid: LeSean McCoy and Doug Martin are a formidable RB duo, and they weren’t too expensive. I like McCoy this year, but not Martin, so I think McCoy was a good get. Murray is a $17 flier isn’t bad. And Gronk at $10 is the pick of the draft.
Overpaid: Not too much at all. Mason Crosby isn’t worth even a dollar, but you can drop and pick someone else up. Blackmon may have been waiver material too.
Overall: I really like this team too. There is an obvious weakness at WR, but if either Nelson or Nicks return to the form they showed, this team could be awe inspiring. Well balanced team with a powerhouse RB combo, a solid QB (even though I would never own him), and some high ceiling WR’s make a nice combination. Good draft.
I don’t normally try to cross post about leagues in different threads, but I had 2 last minute cancellations in the big league and I need replacements quickly. Draft is tonight at 8:45 eastern, but you probably have to join the league an hour before then. The league is really interesting - 20 teams spreads the talent really thin, it’s definitely fun. It looks like I’m gonna survive getting Manning’d this week. I didn’t think I would. Looks like I may end up with this week’s best score.
Apparently picking up a player doesn’t automatically slot them into the starting spot, despite them being the only player at their position. Thanks Blair Walsh.
And it cost me a win. sigh. I really need to get rid of this family and this house and focus only on fantasy football.
I picked up the Minnesota defense and started them in place of the Browns defense. They ended up scoring 2 points less than the Browns defense. My margin of defeat? 1.94 points. I mean that’s not the only thing - Kaepernick with 5 points again, Chris Johnson and James Starks were outperformed by Bradshaw and Powell… really, almost any other roster move I make wins this. Oh well.
Looking to sell MJD for pennies on the dollar.
