SDMB Auction FF League 2010

I’m also fine with making it for next week as well.

Now I just have to figure out how to handle trading away my most productive player for someone who could miss weeks. That’s great.

Yeah. I got one week out I’d Gates…

Next week is rough for me. I’ve got Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, Arian Foster, and Jacoby Jones on bye, and it looks like Gates is gonna be missing some significant time. Looks like the Best->Gates trade is going to be a disaster with that injury. Oh well, you can’t predict that shit, Gates just played 85 straight games apparently.

A loss next week could conceivably put me in 6th place even though I’ve outscored the next highest player by 140 points. The league has remarkable parity, but I should probably be undefeated. Bah.

Yeah, that’s tough. But there’s a pretty big difference of course. Your trade was processed before the game actually happened, and you got two starts out of him (the second being the one where he got hurt).

My trade sat there, processing, AFTER we all learned Jackson was hurt and likely to miss several weeks. So here’s a trade that’s suddenly not at all fair and I’m put in this shitty situation where I have to decide if its worth vetoing my own trade and putting up with all the other bullshit that goes along with that, or getting royally screwed and potentially having the season ruined. That’s fantastic.

A couple things to note. If you need a cheap replacement at RB, I have Felix Jones and Fred Jackson available. Both are starters, and fairly clear ones, and Jackson has been extremely productive when he has been given a chance. I’m looking for a WR.

Also, now that SenorBeef has dropped his kicker, can we take bets on who will be the latest sucker to fall for the 2 dimes for 1 quarter trade?

Well, in the second game he put up 1.2 points before getting hurt, so I wouldn’t count that as a plus. Looks like he’s not hurt too badly though.

That’d be both incredibly cheesy (it’s not the other guy’s fault) and pointless - no one else is going to veto to save you.

So your position is still that swapping the #9 RB for the #12 WR is a total assraping for the guy who got the RB? The trade didn’t need to involve 2 for 1, he got the best of it going 1 for 1.

Edit: Of course you meant that more as an attempt to cockblock me by discouraging potential traders rather than a commentary on what has happened. Classy.

It’s not cheesy at all. Fairness works both ways, not just one, and it’s not my fault my guy got hurt before the trade even finished processing. By the time the trade processed it was no longer a fair swap. But that brings us to point two, which you’re right about, it would have been pointless. But we’ll see how it ends up, he may only miss two weeks instead of eight.

isn’t hindsight grand? Of course you didn’t think the trade was fair 1 for 1 back then because you added someone in whom you clearly held some interest. But since we’re, apparently, giving ourselves the benefit of hindsight, I’ll reserve my right to hold judgment until the season is over. It’s a win / win. Either I can make fun of you for getting the lesser end of the deal or blast you for hoodwinking the other owners in the league.

Oops, forgot you can dish out the shit talk but can’t take it. You’re in first place, and you’re very, very predictable in finding some way to swindle the other owners who may not know any better about trading for guys you just picked up off the wire. If you’re already ahead, I can’t sit back and let you gain even more ground at someone else’s expense.

Speaking of classy, that was a nice trade offer.

How in the world would vetoing it be fairness working the other way? I challenge anyone in this league to side with Jules on this one - is trying to get a trade cancelled due to injury kosher? The trade was made in good faith with knowledge of all participants and shit happens. You have some weird attachment to the 48 hour “processing” period as being some sort of sacred inviolable process, when it’s really just a formality. And even so, the process isn’t intended to give 48 hours for people to back out of a deal if something happens in that time period obviously.

Now, if the trade offer had been pending, and the player on one side got hurt so the other guy rushed to his computer to quickly accept the offer, that would be BS. But this was a normal trade, made with full knowledge and good faith by both participants. There is no grounds to object to it.

What the hell hindsight are you talking about? I said Mendenhall was valuable because he was one of the few backs in the leagues that was going to carry 20 times a game and that was exactly right. How can one call it hindsight when what I predicted in the first place was entirely correct?

It was the objections to the trade in the first place that were completely baseless. The idea that I paid $35 for a player, and that the average yahoo played paid $46, but he was massively inferior to a player no one was willing to bid $38 on was always illogical. You tried to justify your objection by basically saying “uh… like… bidding amounts in auction drafts don’t really make sense, just listen to my gut here, this trade sucks”.

So either Mendenhall was massively overpriced at $35, which is contradicted by the idea that people in our league were willing to bid 33-34 for him, and the yahoo user base in general paid $46 for him, or Johnson is way undervalued at $37 because he’s so much better than Mendenhall, yet no one was willing to bid $38.

The whole thing made no sense and what has happened only bears that out. There’s no hindsight needed - nothing remotely unusual happened, Mendenhall is pretty much exactly matching predictions.

As for adding someone in - he didn’t want to do the deal 1 for 1. I had RBs on my roster that I wouldn’t start, so I was determined to move one. So I threw in some extra value. I decided that the value I was losing by giving up an extra player was offset by not having 4 startable RBs for my 2 RB slots.

Yeah, well you’re being a dick. This isn’t smack talk - you tried to influence the league to vote against a perfectly valid trade. And you’re waiting for the chance to pounce on me to suggest that my success is somehow tainted if I’m successful.

What shit am I dishing out that this is a response to? I don’t attack people personally, I keep the bragging light and smack talkish. I’m not running around trying to convince everyone they’ve been swindled and should regret it, or trying to taint anyone’s success with implications that it was somehow acquired in an inappropriate way. What you are doing here is not talking smack - you are actively being a dick. You are trying to discourage other people from trading with me, and to try to make people who’ve already done so feel bad. There’s nothing funny or smackish or light about what you’re saying - you are trying to make the league worse by lowering the level of discourse.

For everyone else, as a joke, in response to his last post to the thread, I offered him Carnell Williams and Deion Branch with the message “You get two players and you only have to give up one!”.

This was his response:

Do you know how anal you have to be to actually think it was a serious attempt to get you to click “accept” by accident? And that I’d let that actually stand if you did?

When in the fucking multiyear history of our leagues together have I done anything remotely like that? What in all these years as a commissioner or a player have I done that’s been unfair or unsportsmanlike?

Given above how you think it’d be cool to try to derail a trade that went south after the informed, good faith deal was accepted, I guess you’re basically just looking at your own shitty sportsmanship and assuming everyone else works the same way.

Don’t give me the “you can dish it out but you can’t take it” bullshit. I have never once said anything as malicious in intent as the shit you throw at me.

I forgot to address this. This league has, for the last 2, maybe 3 years, been the most consistently savvy league I’ve ever seen. I’d take any of us to be favorites in almost all other leagues. I mean, 8/10 have a record of 4-2 or 3-3, and aside from top and bottom everyone is within 70 points. This league is balanced and super competant. I don’t know what poor little newbie you think I’m going to pull one over on here.

Aaron Rodgers and an 18 point lead vs Donald Driver and Randy Moss. Feeling confident but it’s definitely still a game.

Varlos has to score 43 points between Eli Manning and Adrian Peterson. Not likely, but not vastly unlikely.

Redbirds has a chance to hold up with a 12 point lead and Bradshaw left to play vs Nicks/Bryant/Witten/Giants. Ellis is definitely the favorite but WRs can put up small numbers very easily.

Well I survived my toughest week with all the byes.

If I somehow don’t make the playoffs I am going to burn this motherfucker down.

No interest in Kenny Britt? I was sure, bidding my last $15 for him, that I’d be out bid but I had to make the token gesture anyway. How many people are you going to find this late in the season that have more value than Britt? Sure, it was one big game, but he was averaging like 8 points a week before that so it’s not like he’s a total fluke.

I hope this doesn’t indicate people half-assing it, because pretty much the entire league is still in the playoff picture.

Chuck’s score jumped out at me. Most of his D+ is because Christopher Ivory started (4.80) while Darren McFadden rode the bench (43.60). Since I was already looking around, Omni’s D+ was from Jay Cutler (9.24) starting over Carson Palmer (28.48) and Donald Driver (0.00) starting over Johnny Knox (14.60), both reasonable choices IMO.

Everyone likes playing head to head because it’s more interesting from week to week, but it’s obviously not as fair as just a straight points competition. But it’s easy to see how the league would shake out if we were indeed playing a straight points league, so every once in a while I like to sort the rankings by score to see how we’d turn out in that case. Ellis Dee put that function into his program so I don’t have to do it manually, thanks.

Crowley’s Bentley, you’re starting a Bears defense on a bye against me (Phoenix Redbirds).

Had over 100 points and already had my game won before Andre Johnson, Arian Foster, or the Steelers D played.

flex
Dale, it’s cool that you pointed out the missing defense. Guess he didn’t get around to it - and it may cost him the game.

Omni needs 10 out of Gonzalez and Vantieri to beat Ellis Dee.

Dale needs 14 out of Jacoby Jones to beat Hamlet.

Jules needs 42 out of Peyton, Garcon, and Owen Daniels. That one should be close.

Ended up scoring 149.40 which is the highest score anyone has gotten in the league this year, beating out the last high score which was 137.52 in week 6… which was also by me. Next highest is 134.24, also my score, from week 4.

Not this year.

Your team is a behemoth. Every single week you’re getting the benefit of a huge game from someone, and usually more than one (you’ve gotten a big game from at least one player just about every week, often more than one). I’d say that’s not likely to continue, but maybe that’s just a desperate hope. It certainly looks like everyone is playing for second.

As for me, this was the lost week, so while I expected to lose this week I’m still bummed. Now past the halfway point, I’m sitting in the bottom 3 and probably not going anywhere. Every week I go up against a buzzsaw (six of the eight weeks I’ve faced a 25+pt scorer) but I hardly ever get that out of my guys (only three times all season). It’s been a very unlucky season for me, and I haven’t helped matters by making a few mistakes that have cost me. I have yet to get away with making a poor choice - every single one has ended up costing me a game.

Just goes to show, you can appear really good at this one season and really bad at it the next.
