SDMB Auction FF League 2010

Well, the nature of a playoffs-based FF season means I just need to have one bad week to lose it. Really, all my regular season success means is that I’m pretty much guaranteed a playoff spot. If I have an off week in week 15, that’s it - season over. The most extreme example of this was the original all-pro league when Taz’s first loss was in the championship game.

As for you, you’re not really that far behind. Everyone from 2nd to 8th is seperated by a max of 2 wins and and 80 points. Rip off a few wins and you’ll snag the 4th seed.

I’m doing really well across the board this year. I’m 2/12 in the all pro, 2/20 in the big league, and 4/12 in dynasty. I’m actually leading the big league scoring for the the 2nd year in a row, which I think is pretty remarkable.

Phoenix Redbirds and Show Me Your TDs need a roster adjustment.

My kicker has scored less than 3 points for the 20th time this season.

That’s easily outweighed by the fact that you’ve had a breakout game or two or five from one of your starters every single week. Have you had a single game without a 20pt+ scorer?

Probably not. That’s why I’m awesome.

Just bitter because kickers almost feel like random noise at this point. We discussed eliminating them from our leagues last year? or two years ago and I’m starting to feel like I’d have a less aggrivating experience if we did.

Edit: I’ve been shifting my kicker around all season trying to find the best projected/consensus kicker available. Looking back I haven’t been limited in this league in particular - I’ve been having shit kicker issues across all my leagues.

That’s defenses for me. A constant annoyance.

I need Rodgers, Owens, and the Steelers D to make up an 8 point gap against Cedric Benson and Jason Witten to beat Ellis Dee.

It’s Not Rocket Surgery! has a 3 point lead, with Chad Johnson, Mendenhall, and the Packers D to play against Overly Sentimental’s Rapist QB and Ward.

With a huge game out of Jennings, Austin, and Crosby, Show Me Your TDs has an outside shot at making up the 58 point gap against Jules Andre.
Edit: I’ve found defenses to be much more predictable than kickers, and I bet the consensus rankings of defenses from week to week track much better than for kickers. But yeah you can get some unexpected results there.

VarlosZ sends:
RB Maurice Jones-Drew
TE Visanthe Shiancoe

… to Quentin’s JAMmers in exchange for:
RB Jamaal Charles
WR Roddy White
WR Lee Evans
Started as a proposal for a small Olsen-Shiancoe swap with a little extra consideration coming my way; didn’t expect it to morph into a major MJD/Jamaal Charles/Roddy White near-blockbuster trade. Shiancoe should be valuable going forward, and I’m really going to miss knowing without a doubt who my two RBs are going to be every week, but Roddy White is too good to pass up, as my WR corps is Reggie Wayne and then a bunch of guys who put up one good game for every three they play.

Ok, so we have a rather strenuous objection to the trade.

I got an e-mail from Charles/Overly Sentimental

The threat there of course isn’t cool - not sure if he’s talking about abandoning his team mid-season or what - but the trade is worth discussing.

I’ve said that personally there’s basically no time I’d personally object to any trade. We’re all competant players here who don’t need to be protected from ourselves, it would be very unusual for anything fishy to be going on, and reasonable people can differ on their views of future value.

My initial reaction to this trade was that it was strongly in favor of Varlos and I was a little puzzled since Jules usually works pretty hard to get a good end of deals. Charles has already outscored MJD so far even with limited carries, and Charles has only been becoming more and more a factor in his offense. Charles also has a friendlier schedule for the rest of the year - Denver twice is huge, as well as ARI and SEA. So even just a flat out Charles for MJD swap would probably be slightly in favor of the guy getting Charles.

But not only is that the swap, but White, the league’s leading WR, is thrown in on the side giving away Charles.

I consider Shiancoe and Evans to both be a wash and not a huge factor in the deal.

So it essentially looks like Jamal Charles and Roddy White for MJD - which is actually pretty crazy. We’re talking about the 17th and 20th highest scorer in exchange for the 32nd.

So what’s going on here? I’d like to hear the logic from Jules and how others feel about the trade.

Edit: The trade will automatically process without my approval after 48 hours. If that happens and we’re still discussing it, that doesn’t mean it’s complete - if necesary I could always revert the trade after the 48 hour deadline.

It is an utter ass raping. However, we’re back to our age old discussion of what merits a veto. League unbalancing trades? Collusion only?

I don’t really know. I’ve never vetoed a trade so I don’t know what the criteria should be.

I looked on Jules’ roster and there’s no receiver depth either. I mean, at least if he had 4 very productive receivers, it somewhat justifies trading away one, but I guess he’s banking of Vincent Jackson coming back motivated to play and retaining skills somehow because that’s the only other receiver on his roster.

I don’t know what to say. I intended for that offer to be for Adrian Peterson and screwed it up somehow. I can’t understand how I did that, even looking back at it.

I assume you’d like it to be vetoed then, as a genuine mistake. You could try making the offer for Peterson - trade is open till Friday.

Speaking of which - any interest in extending the trade deadline? As a general rule, I’d like to set the trade deadline later - I like trading, and the primary concern is that someone is just gonna give away their team out of frustration, and I don’t think that will be the case in this league.

Ok, no problem; if the man says it was a mistake I believe him. We can veto or reverse the trade.

Oh, and I’d be cool with extending the deadline by a week. Maybe even two.

Alright, trade disallowed.

Boo.

Jules worked out a new trade. He gives up Roddy White, Ray Rice, and Nate Washington to New New York Benders for Brandon Marshall, Chris Johnson, and Zach Miller.

Seems pretty fair. Favors Jules in pure value I’d say, but with Miller was a bench player for Benders anyway.

New trade to announce (SenorBeef beat me to it!):

Quentin’s JAMmers gives up:
WR Roddy White
RB Ray Rice
WR Nate Washington

New New York Benders gives up:
WR Brandon Marshall
RB Chris Johnson
TE Zach Miller

This is a trade I actually intended to make, thank you. I took a look down the road and though I think I can claw my way into the playoffs, I didn’t have much hope beyond that. My team has coasted by on very stable production this entire season but lacked that top gear which a championship team would need in this league. Chris Johnson provides that needed top gear, and while I lose one of the best WRs in the league in White, I’m fully confident that one among VJax, Sidney Rice, or Brandon Marshall will emerge as an every week starter down the stretch. Knowing that my position in this league was precarious and uncertain, I needed someone I could trust, and I couldn’t trust either of my RBs considering they share similarly iffy workloads. Neither provided much burst scoring potential with a total of 4 TDs between the two. Rice was my favorite, but Charles has the easier schedule, and my playoff position is far from assured. At least I know there isn’t anyone stealing touches from Chris Johnson.

So now I have the most reliable fantasy player alive (Manning) and the player with the highest big play potential at both WR and RB (Desean Jackson and Chris Johnson, respectively).

This trade should help my Benders, too. My WR situation has been weak, weak, weak this year - adding a truly top WR and one with breakout potential (with the Moss trade, Nate Washington should see a lot of single coverage) helps to relieve my “pick random WRs and hope for the best” situation. Chris Johnson to Ray Rice is a downgrade, but with the cold weather coming, hopefully Rice will see more touches.
