SDMB Big League Fantasy Football 2013

To be fair, I also was out and forgot to adjust my Thursday roster with David Wilson taking up an RB slot, so it’s kind of a wash in that regard. I also punted the TE position this week - since Clay was on bye but I didn’t want to dump him to pick up another replacement for Gronk.

I have a totally undeserved 6-0 record this year. I’m in 9th in scoring this year, but the head to head matchups have worked amazingly well in my favor, and I have the lowest points against me. Which is pretty much the opposite of how it usually goes. Of course it’s illusory if my team is still dogging it in the playoffs, but at least it means I’ll probably get to the playoffs.

David Wilson fucked me up so badly in this league. Moreno has been a pleasant surprise.

I’d be willing to trade some combination of Pryor/Gronk/Clay/Wayne/Thompkins/Simpson for a startable RB.

My luck in this league this year is kinda silly. I put up the 6th worst score this week but played the 2nd worst score. Worst 7-1 team ever. Now I just need to stumble into the playoffs, have two flukey big games, and then win the league with my shitty team to make up for the ridiculous opposite thing that happened to me in our first season.

Since this post, I’m 0-2, haven’t broken 100 points (I had 173 the week before) and kids are crushing me.

Coby Fleener is still on the block, incidentally, although I need him this week.

I really need to make an RB trade this week. I’ll swap any WR for any reasonable RB, but I’m trying to package Terrelle Pryor with one for a better RB. Pryor has actually been a pretty valuable fantasy asset this year. Charles Clay, a top 10 TE, is also up for grabs. I’d consider moving Gronk, but it would have to be for a premium RB.

So

Pryor + Thompkins/Simpson/Patterson/Mike Williams/Marlon Brown/Charles Clay for RB. Or Gronk for RB. Or Pryor+Gronk for RB. Send me deals.

Got some playoff relevant matches this week.

I am at 8th place and 1 game ahead of Curry Porkrinds, who is 9th, but I am down 30 total points. This week, I play against Curry Porkrinds, so if he wins, he takes my place, and if I win, I go up by two games against Curry.

Red Hotchuli 7th goes against Rough and Tumblrs, 10th. A Rough win throws all three of us in contention for Red’s place.

Exploding Pancakes is facing Scissor Me Timbers. If Exploding wins out except for losing to me and Scissor Me, then the division could easily be decided by the last week of the season, where I face Scissor. If I win out, then all three of us have 10-3 records, with 6-2 divisional records, and it goes to points, if Scissor Me wins, he takes the division with an 11-2 record. Of course that scenario has a lot that could go wrong. I’d need to beat Curry, which looks like a tough match up, Exploding could beat me or Scissors, and one of us could lose one of the unexamined matchups

Red Hochuli Peppers could easily win my division now. He’s only a game behind (though way behind on total points) and my team is in the tank.

I managed to win by the exact amount that Golden Tate scored this week. Now I’ve got Kaep and my Defense on a bye. I’m happy I picked up Case Keenum as a fill-in, but considering that the only D available right now is Washington means I’m probably not playing a defense this week.

I will probably lose to a team that has one player out, and two players on bye.

Save me Gronk.

I’m baaaaack.

Well, I didn’t want to do this. I had pretty much discounted this game from about halfway through the draft. But 0.05 points? I gotta think that the Bears score at least one non-safety score, and Robbie Gould can put me over the top. It’s at the cost of Randall Cobb, who’s scheduled to come back no earlier than Week 15. I have to think they’ll ease him into the rotation, making a win now more important than a game time decision 6 weeks from now.

Lame. For some reason I thought once you started a player on a bye, you couldn’t replace them in that slot. But I guess that doesn’t make sense, since when would the cutoff time be? Blah. BLAH I SAY.

Oh, I’m sure you’ll put a bid in on Cobb, we’ll get paired up in the playoffs, and Cobb’ll light it up and push you over the edge by 0.05 points.

In other news, I’ll trade a starting RB for a WR upgrade. Pair up any WR and RB on my roster for a WR that would be an upgrade for me.

If anyone needs to take a gamble I’ll trade Arian Foster for almost any RB who gets more than 10 carries a game.

Sent you a PM.

Well RNATB, I do believe that’s the first time I’ve seen someone bid FAAB dollars on a player on IR.

He’s on designated-to-return IR.

I want to reiterate/clarify some of the procedural stuff we do in the leagues I run.

We do commissioner approval trading. Practically speaking, we’re all trusted, competent players here, and no one is going to deliberately tank or pass their good players to someone else or do any of the things that a default league has a voting veto system for. Generally, all trades are approved as soon as I see them. In the event that there was a funky trade, I’d bring it up for discussion in the league page. Fast tracking trades has obvious benefits. Under a 48 hour trade window, trades for the games on Sunday have to be made at a corresponding time early Friday afternoon. So you have less time to negotiate and work out trades, and you also have less up to date information about potential injuries and such, which often play a factor in why you’re making that trade in the first place. Approval trading means you could make a trade right up until the start of the game, giving more time to negotiate and the most up to date information.

By default, I approve all trades as soon as I see them. However, this could potentially provide difficult edge cases close to gametime. Occasionally someone will want to agree to a trade before the games, but not actually want the trade to go through until after the games. So by default, I will not immediately process trades that occur less than 24 hours before a game that one of the players is involved in. I say 24 rather than 48 because I feel that anything more than 24 is sufficient time to manage your roster, and make your intentions known if you hadn’t intended the trade to go through. So if you want a last day trade to go through, both players should come to the thread and post their intention for the trade to go through immediately.

In such a case, it’s possible that I may not immediately approve the trade (if I’m not here), or perhaps I approve it 4 hours later, but one of the trading players is unavailable to adjust their roster after the trade processed. This is unlikely but possible, especially if someone agreed to a trade sunday morning. If this happens, then simply have both people come to the thread and state their intentions. Give specific intentions like “When this trade goes through, I want to bench player X and replace him in that slot with player Y from the trade”. If people don’t post on the thread whether they intend for a trade to go through or not, trades will be processed ASAP more than 24 hours before the game, and with less than 24 hours to go, not fast tracked.

I know this sounds a little complicated with the caveats, but it really isn’t. The system has been working fine for us, provides a ton of flexibility, and rarely gets tested with edge cases. If you just let your intentions specifically and clearly be known, everything will be fine.

Another thing, sort of related. I will honor specific intentions regarding gametime injury decisions in the event that you can’t make it to the computer before the game starts. It has to be clear and specific “If X is active, I want him to start in my RB spot, benching Y” - it has to be an active/inactive thing, “starting” is too ambiguous. I think we’ve done this all of twice in several years, but I wanted to let people know the rule is there if they want to use it.

Something else. We set these leagues to have the latest possible trade deadline in the year (this year it happens to be Nov 29), but when I copied the settings from last year to this year, it didn’t automatically adjust the trade deadline, but rather put it at the default. I just noticed this now. So I’m changing the trade deadline in all my leagues to be the 29th, as was originally intended.

Any questions?

I want to move Matt Ryan or Terelle Pryor (your choice) for a startable RB. You can have Brian Leonard or Bernard Pierce back with it if you want. Send an offer today and we can get it done this week. I’m also willing to move Gronk for a top RB.

I guess I should have taken that trade for Ryan. Wallace went down as fast as I picked him up to back up Rodgers.

This week is probably my closest matchup of the season as both Up By Three (Taber) and I have only starting WRs left. Most of my team did absolutely nothing but Ingram far exceeded his projected 4 and put up 23 pts. Brees was a monster last night so that helped put me ahead by 3 points. Now it comes down to Vincent Jackson vs Mike Wallace. Despite my current lack of confidence, I am happy to see this weeks matchup at least come down to two starting WRs in the same game. Should be a fun night.
