Found out I’m flying to New York on the 9th for a week, so the 8th is last day for me.
Hi guys, back again and looking forward to it as always. This is probably going to be the only Dope league I play in this year, as it is by far my favorite, and I’ve been stretched too thin in recent years. The draft date is fine by me, and I’m flexible if it needs to be changed, assuming it’s a weekday evening as usual (east coasters say ‘hopefully not too late’). I’ve got a friend who has wanted to get in this league for years if we have an extra spot, so let me know. See you guys on draft night!
Thank you for the invite. It’s been loads of fun playing with you all, these last couple of years. Unfortunately, I’m going to have to decline the invite this year; just too many things going on. I’m not able to even post here that often anymore. I’ll try again next year, if there’s room.
Thanks again.
While a lot of people haven’t chimed in about the date, so far Monday, September 7 looks good, instead of the 8th.
Either one is fine by me. I’m not worried about how late we go even though I’m on the East Coast, though I suspect others will be.
Monday’s fine with me, jury duty got moved anyway
I like Monday.
monday
Okay, draft changed to Monday, Sep 7 at 8:15 eastern. I moved up the draft 15 minutes, because it tends to run late for east coasters. However, if you don’t feel like you can make the start (but could make 8:30), tell me and I’ll move it back. It’s more important that you attend the start of the draft (as the high value players are up for bid) because if you need to leave early you could always pay a little extra to win the bottom of your roster and finish up early.
We’ll also be recruiting at least one slot, so if you’re interested in joining this league, post here. I’ll invite some people who’ve played in the past and from other SDMB leagues.
Is there anyone who can’t make Monday the 7th or otherwise wants to drop out of the league now?
Someone would have to school me on auction draft mechanics and strats…and I suppose SenorBeef might send a filet de crow my way, but if there was an opening, I’d be interested.
Don’t think I’m going to bother running my league this year–barely had enough to do it last year.
There’s mock auction drafts available on Yahoo! They’ll show you how they operate. The dollar values will be much different in this league due to the large number of teams
Could you resend the invite to this?
Oak, you’re welcome to rejoin the league this year if we have an opening. We do have one slot open at least, but I need to check last year’s thread to see if I promised anyone the next opening. If not, you’re first up.
Munch, I sent an invite to your normal yahoo address (3, actually). If that’s not working, see if you can join league 69948 password cecil or PM me with an alternate e-mail address.
It doesn’t look like anyone is in the queue from last year for the open slots, so Oakminster will be replacing Gray Ghost in our league this year. Oak, PM me your e-mail for an invite.
Varlos hasn’t signed up yet. He hasn’t indicated that he doesn’t intend to, so I would assume he will, but I will attempt to get ahold of him.
If there’s anyone who can’t make the mandatory draft date of Monday, Sep 7 at 8:15 eastern (and I just came to realize this is labor day), speak up immediately. Otherwise you will be expected to attend the draft. It’s a balance issue - our values are so out of whack that yahoo won’t draft a viable team for whoever loses, which means 13 people will get a free win on their schedule.
Not necessarily true. I got 3 or 4 wins the first year of this league even though I couldn’t make the draft.
Done. Now to study up on players, draft strategy, etc.
I’m all signed up now. Go Darnassus Druids!
We have 19 players returning, with Gray Ghost being replaced by Oakminster. This league has stabilized nicely, which is good.
The draft date is Monday, Sep 7 at 8:15pm eastern. That’s labor day. No one has objected to the draft date, so we should be good. I expect 100% attendance. Not attending the draft cripples you and gives various players an unfair advantage on scheduling.
If something happens at the last minute and you can’t make it, at the very least pre-rank 20 or 30 players with values higher than they’ll actually go for. So if the top running backs will go for $60-70, then put in a pre-rank value on your favorite at $80. Some mid-tier QB that normally goes for $28, pre-rank him for $40. You can basically overpay to get a few starters. It’s way better than basically starting with nothing because the yahoo default valuations don’t reflect our league’s situation at all.
Again, attendance is mandatory. But there’s a chance you might not make it anyway, go overboard on a few players you like in by pre-ranking.
Is there a list somewhere of typical values? I have not started researching this type of draft yet, but I’m guessing our values may be somewhat lower than the norm due to larger roster size…or is that factored in to the budget allowed each team?
The opposite in fact. You can’t use the projected dollar amounts.
