I made fifth place, with the highest total points scored.
I was really worried a couple of weeks ago, when i lost my RB2 and TE1 to season-ending injuries. I lost the next game, but managed to win the last game of the season on the back of massive performances from Dwayne Allen, Golden Tate, and kicker Matt Prater.
Interestingly, i got through the season by exceeding the predicted points total on a majority of occasions. I’m not sure how accurate Yahoo’s projections are on a league-wide basis, but it has been quite noticeable to me that my team beats the projections more often than not, often by a considerable margin.
I’m still not especially confident about the playoffs, and i’ll need two or three players to step up with big games each week to have a chance. While Melvin Gordon has been great, the loss of Giovani Bernard means that i’m effectively a one running back team, with Baltimore’s Kyle Juszczyk (who?) good for only about 3 points per game.
I also don’t anticipate that Dwayne Allen will score 3 TDs in a game again anytime soon. He’s has two good games, and one massive game, but the rest of his season has been mediocre. Zach Miller is no Travis Kelce in terms of fantasy points, but he was solid, and losing him was a pain in the ass. Still, i think that some other players in our league have had far worse luck with injuries than me.
My Rams D has also let me down recently. After some good performances (admittedly, against mediocre offenses), they’ve put up negative numbers two weeks in a row, and now have to face the Falcons, who score a bunch of points even in games they lose. The Rams are predicted for 6 points this weekend, but i’m considering benching them to avoid another negative score.
I was also looking at my team and thinking about value for money.
My two most expensive WRs, Golden Tate and Kelvin Benjamin, cost me $26 and $20 respectively, but they have both produced fewer points than my other two WRs, Mike Wallace and Jamison Crowder, who cost $9 for both combined!
Crowder must be one of the value picks of the season; he’s the 7th-ranked WR with 162 points, and he cost one dollar. Melvin Gordon was also a huge return-per-dollar pick for me. He cost $20, and is third among all RBs in points, with 229.
I think the closest I had to a bust in terms of money paid for draft picks was RB Bernard. I paid $23 for him, and he produced some decent performances, mainly due to his use in the short passing game, and then he got injured. I was hoping for more production from Golden Tate, but while he hasn’t lived up to expectations, he’s still been solid, especially in the second half, so i wouldn’t call him a bust.
Early in the season, it looked like Aaron Rodgers might not be worth the top QB money i paid for him. The Packers looked shaky, and some commentators were questioning whether Rodgers had lost his touch. But he has produced at a high level even while his team struggled, and he’s currently the #1 QB and #1 overall in fantasy points.
Anyone else want to weigh in on the value for money thing?
