SDMB Book Round Robin?

Who would be interested in participating in a book round robin (as inspired by a question ricepad asked in the thread “SDMB Book Swap” which I can’t link to because I’m a linking idiot)?

Here’s the basic idea, and please, if you are more clever than I am at this sort of thing, throw your better suggestions into the mix:

First thought - some of us obviously don’t want our exact locations known, and it’s just safer that way anyhow. So I’m suggesting somewhat regional groups of Dopers to start.

What we could do is, each of us “release” a book or two, with a big ol’ honkin’ label taped to the front that says “SDMB” or something. We can release in at specific locations within general geographic areas, then post where the book/s is/are for other Dopers in the area to find.

Dopers who find the books would post that the book was captured, read it, post an opinion or review, then re-release it elsewhere for another Doper to find. I wouldn’t mind keeping track of who has whose books via an email round robin (alternately, we could take the whole damned idea to email.)

It would be interesting to see where our books travel and what our fellow Dopers think of them.

So…whatcha think?

I do something like this already at bookcrossing.com. Perhaps Dopers in each region could create a crossing zone that could be used by Doper and non-Dopers alike (and perhaps bring some bookcrossing people to the MBs here as well).

Kat - who are you on BC? I’m the same - CBCD,

Kat and CBCD - in the thread I mentioned, we were talking about bookcrossing.com, and while I love the idea, I’ve been very disappointed that none of my books have been captured / passed on.

CBCD - My username on bookcrossing is Shadowkat.

LifeonWry - Yeah, I know…now. I saw your post about that on the other thread after I posted to this one. Although, if there are Dopers who are interested in pursuing your idea, I don’t see why we couldn’t use bookcrossing journals to keep track of people’s comments and the books’ travels, as their database is set up to do exactly that. Provided the mods here don’t have a problem with it, that is.

So maybe we could just set up a Doper contingent at bookcrossing.com? Is there a way we could identify ourselves as Dopers there, or on our booklabels?
