SDMB Dems, whom do you prefer -- Clinton or Obama?

I’m scared to death of this election. The Republicans have absolutely no business getting into office this time around but there are a few big hurdles.

Obama is the perfect man for the job and he’ll be getting my vote, but he needs to get the nomination first. If Hillary gets the nomination I don’t think she has a prayer of winning the general election. She’s hated by too many people and I just don’t think she’ll make a very good leader. Too much carpetbagging politician and not enough public servant. Obama however has to overcome all the racist douchebags and it will be interesting to see what the general election will hold, typically the bigoted part of the population doesn’t turn out in huge numbers at the poll.

Complicating matters is that McCain is about as unconventional of a GOPer as possible and I worry that enough undecideds will go for him, thinking of him as a change from the last 8 years, out of fear of an Obama or Clinton II presidency.

Hillary simple looks unelectable to me. I hope Obama can hit this out of the ballpark.

I’m not a Democrat, can I vote too?

If I can, then Obama! If I can’t, then :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m also seriously not getting the hate for Clinton. Is it on par with the hate we feel for Bush? If so, then does that mean that illegal war = blowjob?

ok, the 93 health care debacle started my hate I admit. Sorry Hillary, we did not elect you. Her she bitch attitude also put me off.
I have been married to two strong women, that is not the issue at all for me. She comes across as a user and follower of polls to me.

Obama. He’s not my ideal or even my third choice (in order, they were: Gore, Edwards, Dodds), but he’s the only alternative to Clinton left, so whoopee.

Do not underestimate the hatred people feel for Hillary Clinton. I don’t hate her, but I sure despise her corporatism, her pandering to the warmongers, and several of her decisions as my senator that don’t reflect her constituency’s overall beliefs. (Which is why her NY primary wasn’t a huge blowout that IL’s was for Obama.)

And my feelings are positively mild compared to what some of my fellow Dems feel towards her. And what they feel is a freakin’ love letter compared to the spittle-flecked rantings of a huge swath of Republicans whenever they hear her name. They hated Bill; they loathe Hillary. The possibility of her as the nominee makes their eyes glaze over with bloodlust, which is why all their pundits are saying how ‘unbeatable’ she is and so on. They want to run against her. Oh, how their attack hounds are drooling to be unleashed so they can tear out her throat!

If she’s our nominee we will be dead. Dead in the water. And we’ll have only ourselves to blame, because only we could lose an election against the party that should be in exile, with its members’ tails between their collective legs, for being responsible for George fucking W. Bush.

So, um, yeah. Obama '08!!!

Choie pretty much sums up my attitude. Hillary’s pandering makes me ill. If I’m stuck with Hillary vs. McCain, I will have a VERY hard time making up my mind. McCain may be a hawk, but at least he seems like an honest one.

As opposed to a *he * bitch attitude? :dubious:

I’m sorry if you feel I’m picking on you, gravitycrasher, but an awful lot of the hate I hear for Hillary sounds to me like “It’s not that she’s a woman, it’s that the bitch don’t know her place.” And the last I checked, the bitch’s place was in the Senate, which makes her exactly as qualified as everyone else who’s running.

I’m a republican who is voting for Obama. If Hillary gets the nomination my vote goes to McCain.
I sure like to meet all the so-called middle aged white women who support Clinton. In my group we all loath her.

Another Obama fan checking in. That said, I would cheerfully vote and volunteer for Clinton, but she isn’t my first choice.

In point of fact, Edwards was until I heard Obama speak in person. There’s a sort of energy in the room when that man gets going. Very hard to resist. Granted, I agree with what he has to say, so I guess I’m not the best one to ask about resisting him.

Obama.

(If Hillary gets the nomination, I guess I would vote for her – with about the same level of enthusiasm with which I voted for Kerry (none), and with no hope of electing a Democratic president.)

Obama. Beyond “charisma” or “unity”, where he differs from Clinton I prefer his stance on things.

I used to say I’d vote for whoever won the nomination but, after watching Clinton campaign, I’ll probably skip the Presidental portion of the ballot if she’s on it. I don’t really want to validate her methods by adding another tick to her election totals. Of course, Illinois being blue regardless, I can get away with this largely guilt-free.

In rereading my post, I should add that if Clinton’s the nominee, my vote goes to her. In the end, despite my dislike and distrust of her, I know that I’d still prefer her Cabinet members, policy advisors and – above all – her Supreme Court picks over McCain’s. (Plus I really despise McCain anyway.)

And FTR, this is one white woman who’s just as sick of Clinton supporters claiming that most dislike of Clinton is due to sexism as I am of the Obama fans who claim that most dislike of him is due to racism. Not saying there ain’t a helluva lot of misogynists and bigots out there. But your default, reflexive position shouldn’t be to accuse the other side of malificence.

Clinton voted for the war, and didn’t come out and condemn the administration for using torture.

I voted for Obama in the California primary. Much good it did, though.

I agree. There are many good, valid reasons to not want Hillary Clinton to be President. Not wanting Hillary Clinton to be President does not make one a misogynist. She is not, in fact, the person I would prefer be President.

Incessant references to her *bitchiness * are misogynistic, though. If you don’t think so, then ponder for a moment what comparable word is so frequently applied to her competition. So, IMO, are the references to her “riding her husband’s coattails”. Anyone who pulls that out had best be able to explain very clearly to me how riding one’s daddy’s coattails is more acceptable.

Oh I’m with you on the “bitch” thing, DianaG. That’s always been the easiest insult to toss at any woman. And certainly the “coattails” crack would be hysterical coming from a fan of GWB. Hysterical, I tells ya!

Obama. But I’ll vote for Clinton if she gets the nomination.

Yes, and no. While I realize that all politicians are opportunists, Obama hasn’t been around long enough for me to dislike him, even though we agree on pretty much nothing at all. Hillary has given me plenty of opportunities to observe her in action, and I have never like what I have seen. Not even once.

Of course, I’ve changed a bit since she was First Lady, but nevertheless she triggers my gag reflex, like food you haven’t eaten in 20 years because it made you puke.

I’ll tell you this, though. If Obama carries the popular-vote delegate lead into the convention and she gets the nomination due to the superdelegates, the Democrats are finished. More to the point, they would lose any moral authority that they had to bitch about the 2000 election, because they would be stealing it for Clinton in an even more craven manner, in broad daylight.

Obama. His education platform is much more fleshed out than hers. As a teacher, that’s pretty important to me.

I don’t really like either of them:

Hillary- It seems like she’s been scheming and plotting for the Presidency for a decade now. I really feel like the only reason she ran for the Senate was to have a shot at the big job. I think she is more qualified to be president, and is probably closer to my political beliefs.

Obama- I’m not really sure how someone that was a State Senator for a while, and then a Senator for three years, is qualified to be President. He seems to be promising everything to everyone, which makes me question what he actually is going to do. To me, he is the 2000 version of Bush. Remember, if you will, that Bush ran as a uniter. He used his folksy shtick to appeal to the NASCAR and business crowd, and Barack is using the fact that he is black to appeal to black people and urban whites.

OK I tried to count up the votes. I sopped after 80% and give to to Obama.
Just kidding. There were many responses like, Obama But I’ll vote for Clinton if she gets the nomination. I counted that as an Obama.

Should The Dope hold a primary?
