Rosters are updated! Set your starting lineups.
Heeeere we go!
Not that he did much, but I wanted Clinton Portis in my starting lineup this week. Commish?
I have no problem with retroactively starting players who would’ve reasonably been placed as starters who played in the Redskins/Giants game but weren’t put on the active roster because the owner never got a chance.
You’ll have to go into the league settings to manually tell it to score us for week 1, and then you can manually retroactively change rosters for week 1 so that people get credit for starting Giants/Redskins players.
I can do it if you want to pass me back commissioner, I’ve fooled with all this stuff before.
I passed it back. I have no issue with retroactively updating lineups so long as it’s reasonably plausible that he’d have been in your lineup, FTR.
At this point I kinda wish it wasn’t the case, but I’m pretty sure I would have started Jason Campbell tonight if I’d gotten to a computer in time. Could you edit my roster when you get a chance, Beef? Thanks.
Done. Anyone else have any roster changes?
Ok, we’re using the same gametime till Tuesday night waiver system as we did last year as far as I know.
Here are the rules:
WAIVER WIRE
All players go on waivers starting at kickoff of their game, and come off Wednesday at midnight. Prior to Wednesday, file waiver claims via email if the player cannot start until next week. (As in, his game was already played.)
PURPOSE
The WAIVER WIRE is in effect so that breakout players don’t get awarded based on who is closest to the computer on Sunday afternoons.
BYE WEEKS
From Wednesday on, if a player is going into a bye week he is not subject to waivers for the entire week. Before Wednesday, players who just had a bye are not subject to waivers and can be signed any time.
MAKING CLAIMS
While players are on waivers, make a claim by emailing the player(s) you want to me. Title your email “Waiver claim”. Include as many players as you like, but list them in order of most wanted first. Include the players’ full first and last names, positions, and teams. I will send back confirmation emails to claims made before the deadline of Midnight on Tuesday Evening/Wednesday morning.
AWARDING PLAYERS
Players will be awarded based on waiver priority, and each successful claim pushes you to the end of the line. After the deadline I’ll post a notification here detailing who got awarded to whom. You can then add the guys you won yourself, as well as freely sign any other free agents not claimed by anyone else. If you won’t be able to make your roster adjustments yourself, I’m happy to do it for you if you let me know in your waiver claim. Include who you want to drop to make room, and also note if you want them to start and who should be benched.
CLAIM JUMPS (Signing a guy while he’s on waivers)
I won’t be locking and unlocking the rosters, but I will be undoing any free agent acquisitions that jump the waiver wire. There is no penalty for jumping the waiver wire other than tipping your hand to everyone else. Claim jumps are automatically logged as waiver claims, and as such any other owners are still free to file a claim on the jumped player(s). If you did not want to spend a waiver claim on a guy you accidentally jumped, email me to let me know.
YAHOO DEFAULT WAIVERS
In addition to Wednesday waivers, yahoo’s internal waiver system also pushes you to the end of waiver priority. The safest approach is to scan a few days back in the transaction history to see if the guy you want was recently released. If he was, then at least be aware that you could lose WP if you sign him. If you accidentally sign someone off waivers without intending to, dropping me an email ASAP will greatly increase your odds of having me undo it for you.
Remember that yahoo waivers take priority over our system. That is, if someone cuts someone on a Saturday and they’re on waivers for 2 days, claim them through yahoo’s waiver system rather than e-mailing me.
My management of this system may be unreliable for the first 2 weeks, I’m still out of town with intermittent internet access, but I’ll do my best. If someone wants to manage the waiver system until I get back home, I’d appreciate it. If you want to do that, post your e-mail address (or say it’s in your profile if it is) and have people e-mail you.
If not, then my e-mail is [my sdmb name] at yahoo.com.
I should be able to get on the internets by 12 tonight, but I’ll be gone most of the time till then. Could someone do me a favor and add up the value of each player taken in the draft (it’s included in the ESPN results e-mail) and derive how much each owner had left at the end? From that I could set the waiver list correctly.
What should we do for ties? The e-mail dosn’t have draft order data.
Didn’t notice that the ESPN e-mail had the totals ready. Just got back, working on the waiver stuff now.
I did the first waiver order in order of the money remaining at the end of the draft. I didn’t have enough data to resolve ties, so everyone who had $0 had their waiver set in the order that the ESPN results e-mail listed their team. It seemed as fair a way as any.
Look for waiver announcements in the league message section soon.
Waivers were resolved messily. The only explicit claim was for Michael Jenkins by It’s Not Rocket Surgery. Two people had signed players in the waiver period, which generally means that it’s an implicit waiver claim (if anyone with a higher waiver priority asked for them, then that person would win the waivers, otherwise the person who signed them wins them, at the cost of a normal loss in waiver priority) - but in this particular case I didn’t post the league rules as the commissioner note until very recently so they may not have been aware of that.
The alternative to treating them as implicit waiver claims would’ve been to reverse the actions and make their claims free agents, but I’m not sure they’d want me to do that, so I’m going to treat them as implicit waiver claims.
Sorry that I wasn’t more on the ball with explaining the waiver system to the new players in this league - I’ve still had inconsistant internet access and it slipped my mind. I did mention on this thread to see last year’s thread for a detailed description of the waiver system, though. Hopefully everything is on track and everyone is satisfied - this will get smoother as we go.
To explicitly spell out what happened with the waivers:
The initial order, sorted by remaining money, and if tied, order of appearance in the ESPN results e-mail, was:
31 Ellis Dee
18 Kiros/Last Place
12 exploding pancakes
11 chuck/overly sentimental
8 hamlet/dissapearing pencils
4 omni/ryle
1 Varlos
0 not rocket surgery - cooley high
0 cobra kai
0 RNALTB
0 Mundi
0 Ocho Cincno
Edit: Changed the list to remove the ESPN team name, which had people’s last names.
From there, I treating the picked up players as waiver claims:
Overly Sentimental, with a priority of 4, picks first and takes David Patten, moving into 12th priority.
Cooley High, with a priority of 8, gets Jenkins then moves to 12th, pushing Overly to 11th.
RNATB at priority 10 takes Jordan and moves to 12. Cooley gets pushed to 11th, and Overly to 10th.
Overly then gets Morris, moving to 12th, RNATB to 11, Cooley to 10th.
RNATB then gets Cassel, moving him to 12th, Overly to 11th, and Cooley to 10th, and that’s where we stand currently.
Please try to make waiver requests by 9pm eastern tonight if you could. I may not be able to get internet access at midnight tonight, so I may have to post waiver results earlier.
This should be the last week of this - I’m going home this weekend.
Waiver results were posted in the leagues themselves and free agency opened at midnight.
Sorry for the sloppiness, should be solid next week when I get home.
When I found the commissioner’s note regarding the waiver system on a thread from last year, I posted an earlier version that was a little ambiguous on the timing of events.
I added “Waiver claims will be accepted up until 11pm on Tuesday. Between 11pm and 12, I will post the results of the waiver claims, and at 12, all unclaimed players are available to be signed as free agents.” to clear that up.
My bad, I thought I was pasting the final version from last year which included that information. I didn’t read closely enough.
BTW, this week I goofed up a little and accidentally read someone’s waiver claim early when I was reading my other mail (I generally make my waiver claim list before reading any others to avoid using the inside knowledge to my advantage). Anyway, I had a list at that point which included Anthony Fasano but I hadn’t yet put my claims in a numerical order. When I saw Dissapearing Pencils made a claim on him, I realized I was in a bind - my waiver priority was higher, and I could use my knowledge to put Fasano first to get him, but I hadn’t yet actually thought about what order my claims would be in, and now that I knew, I knew too much and my decision would be tainted (I don’t know if I’d have actually put Fasano #1 prior to that). So in the interest in fairness, I removed him from my claim and gave him up.
I’m just posting that because I want it to be known that I do my best to run a good and fair league - our waiver system isn’t ideal - it’d be better if we did the same thing but it were automated like the yahoo paid/premium league has it - but doing it manually is better than nothing. But anyway, I do my best not to take advantage of my position. This week I ended up giving up my #3 waiver priority for players I knew would be available as free agents anyway.
Let me add my thanks once again for doing the commishing in this league. I think it’s great you’re willing to take one on the chin to be fair.
Cobra Kai, start a defense so you have no excuses when you get pounded by… Kyle Orton and Brian Westbrook’s ankle.
Also Varlos needs a kicker, Ellis Dee needs a flex spot (may be N/A given half his team is on a bye).
Yeah, somebody snatched up Chancy Stuckey so there really isn’t anyone left to put at flex. I suppose I could put Brad Smith in there, but I don’t think his performance today will merit exposing one of the players I actually want to keep to the waiver wire. (Not the Wednesday waivers, since they’re all on a bye, but the yahoo waivers all released players go on.)
Matt Ryan vs. Kyle Orton… truly this is a matchup of titans.
Ellis, it will warm your heart to hear that in an actual League For Money this week, due to injuries, byes, and the luck of who was available… I am starting Favre, Cotchery, Stuckey, Jones, and the NYJ defense this week. For real.
And I hate the Jets.
