SDMB Fantasy Football big league (league full)

Trade to announce.
Exploding Pancakes gives up Fred Davis (TE, WAS)
Quentin’s Jammers gives up Alex Smith (QB, SF)

Pretty standard trade. He has no TE after Daniels went on IR, and he’ll never start Smith over Brees. I need more matchup options at QB, and having Celek and a RB to start in the flex spot, I probably wouldn’t be using Davis even though he looked good and he’ll probably replace Cooley for most of the rest of the season.

I’m really high on Davis. I think he’ll do everything Cooley did and maybe more if the Redskins get a little more consistent on offense at the end of the season. It’s a fair trade right now, but I predict a big payoff for the Jammers.

I actually agree that the trade works better for him in terms of pure value. But I’ve got Celek with Cassel as my QB, and Smith has a good playoff schedule. The league has one TE slot and one W/R/T slot so I could technically start both Celek and Davis, but I’m probably the only guy in the league that has 3 legit RB starters, which means I wouldn’t really play both of them.

This league is unusual and QBs, especially bad ones, have relatively higher value, because with 20 people every single QB is kept on a roster. It’s actually pretty much a textbook trade where we’re both trading backup strength for weaknesses.

Do you think you could have moved Celek for a better QB than Smith? Had you waited a week I think Davis’ value would skyrocket and you might have a difficult choice between Davis and Celek week to week.

Probably not. There are actually only two in the league that have 2 good QBs and can afford to trade one, and both wanted significantly more than Celek. My roster is (for the depth of this league) a powerhouse - the only weakness is at QB. But I didn’t want to trade Cassel for like the 14th best QB or something - I wanted someone top 10, preferably top 8 - and no one wants to part with a good QB short of getting back multiple good starters.

I just need to not totally suck at the QB position in order for the strength of the rest of my roster to get me through, and Cassel/Smith is way better than Cassel/Anderson.

Rosters in need of adjustment:

Cobra Kai, Scissor me Timbers, We do HGH, Team Ed Guberman, Master Baiters

Larry Johnson is pissing me off. After being a disappointment on the field, he’s now got himself suspended for making slurs against gay people.

The worst part is that all of the articles I read at the beginning of the week substituted weeks for games and were counting the Chiefs bye week as his suspension week. So I never went to find a replacement because it was assumed he’d play. Now they’re reporting games instead of weeks, so he’ll probably sit today and I’ve got ATL’s second stringer to replace him.

Looks like another loss for me.

For some reason, there is a metric fuck-ton of parity in this league. Heading into Week 9, there are 3 teams (out of 20) that are exactly 2 games above or below .500. Each of the remaining 17 teams are within 1 game of .500, and 11 teams (a majority of the league) are exactly 4-4.

Not what I expected.

Fuck the world!

Score is just about tied, and he’s got Roethlisberger, Ward, and Stokley while I’ve got Mendenhall and a useless Eddie Royal, so I’m probably gonna lose this one.

I knew when I saw that I had a 32 point projected lead that it would spell my doom.

Assuming he wins, I’m still gonna have the highest score in the league, but I’ll have a losing record. I’m getting beat by the damn Tampa Bay defense.

Woohoo!

After an 0-5 start, i’ve gone 3-1 over the past 4 games. It hasn’t been all down to bad opponents, either; my guys have put up some decent numbers recently.

My decision to play the Chicago defense today was retarded; i knew they’d give up a lot against the Cardinals passing game, but i hoped they’d at least manage some sacks or INTs. I just didn’t have the heart to try the Tennessee D again, but they would have gotten me 17 points instead of the -8 that the Bears provided.

I’m loving the injuries in the New England running back corps, because it means that Laurence Maroney is getting 20+ carries. That was huge for me today, even with the great game that Michael Turner had.

Even with TO on a Bye week, the rest of my mediocre WR corps managed quite a few receptions today, although no TDs. Lavernues Coles managed some catches against the Ravens, which left me with mixed feelings as a Baltimore fan. They were awful today.

If Ben keeps getting shut down, I may actually pull this one out. No other unresolved games though.

As soon as you posted that, he started making connections across the middle. And then gets sacked for a fumble and a Denver TD.

All I needed was 4 points from Kyle Orton and Knowshon Moreno. I had 5 points from the two, then Orton has to throw his moronic garbage time int. Thanks for the 3.2 points Orton, and the .3 points Moreno.

.02 points. Ouch - sorry man. I don’t have the energy to do the individual math - I’d hate it if it was some sort of rounding abberation.

I leaped up the boards. Which of course means I’ll be losing my last 4 games as I head into the really tough part of my schedule* (which actually started this week). I got lucky that Cobra Kai was on a bye-heavy week.
*This is a clearly ridiculous statement. As VarlosZ pointed out, the parity in here is absurd. Gruberman is ranked 12th, but has put up 946 points. Senor Beef has broken 1000, and is 11th. And I lead the standings with Matt Stafford as my QB.

This league is a bitch!

  1. Exploding Pancakes 4-5 1012.69

  12. Kid_A 5-4 845.87
  13. Antonican Druids 5-4 830.03
  14. Quentin’s JAMmers 4-5 823.34

  20. Court Jesters 3-6 747.52

Ed Gruberman and I are in 1st and 3rd place in total points, yet 11th and 12th in actual rank. Cobra Kai has the 16th most points, but is in third.

There just isn’t much rhyme or reason to a lot of things in fantasy football - there is always much more luck involved in Head-to-Head leagues. The short season of football just compounds it.

I (Ed Gruberman) prefer not to dwell on the 4 game losing streak (appropriate since I’m in the all-Giants division) or the points/record imbalance. I prefer to point out that I’m still just 1 game out of first!

Oh, I’m sorry… did I do that?

(hijack): FTR: I’m in a money league that has a weekly payout. The entry fee for the whole season is ~$35. This week I won ~$35 bucks. So that means I gamble for free for the rest of the season.

The one win the Detroit Lions sccored vs. the Washington Deadskins, I picked.

I was talking to my buds re: TB going retro to the Creamsicle jerseys and I picked this one. Purely based upon superstition.

I know I’m crazy and tend toward the unusual predictions, but maybe this will convince them that I know more than I let on, eh?

BEWARE, MONKEYS!!! The Crazy can be right once in a while!

SenorBeef, it was a good week. We came close. Other than that, suck it!

Now that Thursday night football has begun, how do waivers work? Is it only players who play on Thursday that are off limits until Sunday, or is it all of them?

Nevermind, found it on page 4 (it’s only players who play on thurs)
