They were my 4th and 5th best scoring receivers, I can spare them. Cutler isn’t great, but I literally put in an offer for 7 other QBs before I went that far.
Better be careful. I might make a comeback from 3-7 to make the playoffs!
So why did you want a QB that bad? You’re already scoring more fantasy points than anybody else…how is this going to help you win?
If you haven’t guessed, I’ve pretty much flying by the seat of my pants in this league. I don’t think I drafted particularly well, but I picked up a couple of free agents here and there, and managed to compete a little bit. If the season ended today, I’d actually be in the playoffs…but I don’t think I really have a handle on the best strategy for this type of league…
I’ve been getting 5-10 points from the QB position an unacceptable amount of the time. On the other hand, I have 5 quality startable receivers and (up until recently) 3 quality starters at RB so my flex was always an RB. So every week, barring byes, I was only using 3 WRs, leaving 2 decent ones on the bench. That’s a luxury I can’t really afford in this league.
I tried to trade from the top end… packaging one of my QBs with Mendenhall, Slaton, Roddy White or Ochocinco (or some combination) for a good QB, but no one would take the offers. So I progressively went on to worse and worse QBs, offering lesser players for them… until finally mhendo took a deal.
This is probably going to increase the point output of my team - I gain an inconsistent but relatively high scoring QB and lose bench or flex players.
Interesting trade. Looks like Shaun Hill is still available if the 49ers decide to make another QB switch later in the season. I would have probably done the trade if I was Baiters as I imagine Terrel Owens has quit on the season and Michael Turner is probably out this week as well.
Rosters needing adjustment: Master Baiters, Cobra Kai, Court Jesters
This is the league where wasted points hurt more than blowouts. I spend a great deal of time trying to figure out my starters because with our league size and general lack of depth its easy to leave points on the bench.
Right now I would like McCoy to have a big night but if Barber and Hightower do well then I will be content. Steve Smith already had a nice night on Thursday for me so that should start me out nicely. However, I do have to spend a fair amount of points negating the Ricky Williams comeback so it should be close.
Exactly.
Not to mention the fact that i’m in 19th place and have little to lose by trying something.
I thought Hill was going to have an awful day. He started negative, with three sacks in the first half, but ended up throwing 3 TDs and giving me 20 points.
As for TO, he only had 9 receptions for 197 yards and a TD.
Fuck this league, yet again!
I’m 43 points behind Varlos. If I lose this game I fall to fucking 4-7 with what may still be the top score in the league (and if not, top 2 or 3), and probably no realistic shot of the playoffs. I do have 4 players still to play - Cutler, Slaton, Celek, and Eagles D - so I have a shot, but I’m not a huge fan of any of the matchups except for Slaton, and even then I don’t know what sort of workload sharing deal they’re gonna have.
I’d be last place in my division despite outscoring all of them by like an average of 200 points.
Bah!
Well, I ended up losing by 2.2 points. Now I’m at 4-7, and prbobably out of the playoff run. The best I can do now is 6-7, and while I can win any tiebreaker, it’s unlikely that a losing record makes it to the playoffs. To add insult on top of that, I probably have the hardest remaining schedule in the league.
Oh well. My goal now is to be the highest scorer and still be the playoffs so that I can just go ahead and set this league on fire.
This is the weirdest league I’ve ever seen as far as comparing actual rank with scoring rank.
- Scissor Me Timbers 8-3 1217.87
- Exploding Pancakes 4-7 1191.94
- Frosted_Lightning 7-4 1159.54
- Team Ed Gruberman 5-6 1158.28
- Varlos’ Zzzzzzz 6-5 1126.58
- Donte’s Torino 7-4 1093.04
- Fightin’ Quakers 5-6 1088.90
- We Do HGH 6-5-0 1084.02
- Phoenix Redbirds 4-7 1073.26
- No Use For A Name II 6-5 1053.57
- Unrelated Siblings 6-5 1053.34
- Curry Porkrinds 6-5 1049.7
- Antonican Druids 7-4 1018.42
- Kid_A 6-5-0 1017.82
- Stinkers 4-7 975.25
- Cobra Kai 7-4 964.62
- Master Baiters 4-7 954.70
- The Gusterrhoids 4-7 951.29
- Quentin’s JAMmers 5-6 944.74
- Court Jesters 3-8 834.51
No Use for a Name II and Cobra Kai have each won two games decided by less than a point.
Cobra Kai has won 4 games by a total of 4.02 points.
The closest game so far this year has been decided by .02 points. (No Use for a Name II beat Donte’s Torino.)
Court Jesters has been on the short end of 3 of the top 10 blowouts of the season, losing those 3 by a combined 232.82 points. (He did only score 142.97 in them, though.)
I think my playoffs start now. If I win my (Ed Gruberman’s) two remaining games I should be in, but any loss makes me 6-7 at best and I should be eliminated.
I guess a five game losing streak isn’t real favorable to one’s playoff aspirations.
Heh…at the moment, I’m the first wildcard team. Color me amazed, especially since my RBs combined for a total of -1.20 fantasy points this week last time I checked. I may not even have anybody healthy enough to play RB next week. Still, I’ve enjoyed the hell out of this league.
Well it looks like four teams have locked up a playoff berth: Scissor Me Timbers (9-3), Frosted Lightning (8-4), Donte’s Torino (8-4) and Cobra Kai (8-4). Fighting for the last four spots are:
- We Do HGH (7-5) 1184.15
- Antonican Druids (7-5) 1140.52
- Team Ed Gruberman (6-6) 1293.46
- Fightin’ Quakers (6-6) 1233.33
- Varlos’ Zzzzzzz (6-6) 1180.48
- No Use For A Name II (6-6) 1143.69
- Curry Porkrinds (6-6) 1135.17
- Unrelated Siblings (6-6) 1096.60
- Kid_A (6-6) 1096.02
- Quentin’s Jammers (6-6) 1069.33
There are only two games involving two of these teams:
Varlos’ Zzzzz v. Kid_A
Curry Porkrinds v. Unrelated Siblings
That guarantees the final 4 spots will involve teams with at least 7 wins. Also, both We Do HGH and the Antonican Druids have a chance to beat out Donte’s Torino to win their division if he loses and they win and outscore him by 36.44 or 80.07 points, respectively. Either way, each one guarantees themselves the playoffs with a win.
Could be a lot of movement this weekend. Anyone have a program that would spit out scenarios? Because I just attempted to do one team’s and it’s daunting.
I’m rooting for whoever has the lowest score to make the playoffs.
Let’s go We Do HGH! My team is so mediocre!

19. The Gusterrhoids 4-8 1055.59
20. Court Jesters 4-8 926.04
One of these things is not like the others.
Well, actually, several of them are. Weird league.
I’m hoping I get a monster week next week - my goal is to finish #1 in scoring and miss the playoffs and I’m not far out.
Well, since I play you, either of us could “accomplish” that - If I (Ed Gruberman) lose to you by less than 20 or so, but outscore Scissor by 8+ points, I’ll be #1 in points but out of the playoffs, too.
In any case, one of us will be the 2008 Patriots of the league.
