SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year 14

Thanks.

A little bit of a down year for RBs in this year’s draft from an overall number of higher level prospects, and QBs aren’t really impressive either at first glance.

WR on the other hand is a deep this year as I can remember.

Figured I would post my roster and tentative cuts.

Anyone interested in taking a flier on Julio Jones? I’d consider shipping him off for say a draft position swap (late 2nd for my early 3rd) or something along those lines. Or if you have a tough cut you’re considering at RB throw me an offer. Jones is the 3rd option in Tampa, so there seems to be some short term upside there.

Nobody was on IR, so that gives me 4 picks.

If anyone would like me to post their roster in the above format, grouped by position, the utility I wrote still works. All I have to do is copy and paste, so let me know. I can hide it in a details box to keep things tidy.

Spent around 20 minutes going through it manually before I remembered I wrote that thing. Was pretty psyched when it spit out a nicely grouped list with zero effort.

Should we start discussing contingencies?

Probably. Overly hasn’t logged in since January. After his desire to quit last year I think he might be done.

If you are looking for a replacement, I changed jobs this year so I am down a league and would happily join this one.

I’m all for it. But I’m sure you understand that we have to protect the integrity of the league. So, in that mind, how do you feel about trading away all your valuables to me for my scraps?

So long as those scraps don’t play in Texas I am likely to fall for it

I’m good with Spiritus Mundi taking the spot if Overly doesn’t check in soon. He’s been around a long time.

I can’t write too much now, I’m traveling all day. Let’s give Overly a bit longer but since he was wavering last year he may be gone. He’s not a normal poster on this board and he shows up late sometimes so he may still be around to play his team. I sent him an email yesterday.

I don’t think there is any rush and you’re right we should give Overly more time, but it good to have the contingency in-place.

Remind me, is Overly the guy from the Mock Draft lobby or am I thinking of someone else?

Agreed we should give Overly a little more time, and I do kind of half-remember him being from the mock draft lobby.

Also agreed that if Overly doesn’t show, Spiritus_Mundi is an excellent alternate.

How long should we give him? Day before the draft? Day of? He’s got the first overall pick, right?

ETA: Would we want to give Mundi a few extra days for possible trades before the draft starts?

Yeah, that’s him. He goes way back to the long long ago. I think it was 2008. We wanted to do an auction draft but yahoo didn’t yet support it and no one wanted to move sites, so we were planning to do an auction draft in an ESPN mock draft and then transfer the results. The very first year we did the auction draft, we conducted it over a voice comm program and actually ran an auction in real time manually with voice/text. I actually remember that being kind of fun, but we wanted to automate it, so it must’ve been a slog to get through 250+ players.

Anyway, one of the people who was supposed to show up to the mock draft did not, and that slot ended up getting filled by a random person just wanting to do an auction draft. We explained what we were doing and asked him to take the draft seriously and I guess we planned to give the team drafted by that stranger to the guy who was supposed to show up, but that random dude decided to play out the team in our league that year and became a regular. That, of course, was Overly Sentimental. He wasn’t from the boards and he only made an account here to post about the league, so he’s not a regular SDMBer, but he’s been playing FF with us in various leagues for something like 14 years.

Anyway, that’s why I wanted to give him every chance to come play again, but he sounded like his interest has been waning and he may not be back, so we should make that transition pretty soon, maybe in a couple of days. Spiritus can start evaluating the team he could inherit and maybe start putting out some trade feelers with other teams if he’d like (obviously these would be void if he doesn’t end up taking over the team).

@EllisDee if you wouldn’t mind, could you post Overly’s roster with your formatting tool? Throw in mine, too, while you’re at it please.

I have no desire to claim jump, so will happily turn the team back over to Overly Sentimental if he returns and wants it.

No worries, you got it. Only delay is that TV is too good on Sunday nights, so it’ll be a couple hours.

Anyone else is free to jump in there if you want me to do yours as well.

So a rundown just in case: Drafting is mostly rookies, but anyone not on a team is fair game. It’s just that most veterans are already on somebody’s team, so rookies are largely what’s available.

You get as many draft picks as it takes to reach 25 players, meaning you have to cut down to at least 25. You might have more than 25 in this initial list because some guys ended the season on IR. Most people tend to draft 3 or 4 players (ie: cut down to 21 or 22).

Then again, taking over a new team would be a fine reason to draft a bunch, like 7 or 8 picks. Fair warning, though: There’s generally only two rounds of worthwhile players, then the third round you start taking flyers. By round 4 you find yourself googling to make sure they made the final 53 man roster. But on the other other hand, by round 5 or 6 you’d probably be the only one left, so it’s akin to getting the first couple free agent picks after the draft.

I count 28 in Overly’s roster (13 RBs!), so as an example, if you dropped 7 players you would get 4 picks. And those picks would be in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds.

Thanks a bunch, @EllisDee . Is there a league page on Yahoo that I can use to explore other folks rosters? Both for potential trade offers and to let me check league scoring rules, etc.

Let me know if this works or not. This should be the base league page.
