SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year 14

While I don’t want to jump the gun on replacing him, we also need to get ahead of various logistical things. Mundi needs to review his roster, understand the nuances of this league, have an opportunity to propose some trades, enter his cuts and, ideally, vote on the rule changes. There’s probably some other logistical stuff like getting him set up in Yahoo as well.

Knowing we’re all getting increasingly short on spare time in our old age (and lots of vacations happen in August) it’s probably a good idea to do it sooner than later. We’re exactly a week from the start of the Draft…I’d say Mundi should have a week to do whatever needs doing in a perfect world. To try and split the baby, we can give Overly until EOD Wednesday which gives Mundi the full weekend get acclimated.

100% agreed

@Spiritus_Mundi it wasn’t mentioned in Ellis’s fine summary, but we do not do a serpentine draft for this. It’s more like the real NFL rookie draft. The worst team picks first in all rounds and so on.

@Spiritus_Mundi If you do take over, and after you get settled, I’d definitely be interested in talking about a trade for the first overall pick.

My team is Gusterrhoids.

Thanks - that works

Thanks.

Thanks - it’s going to take me a few days to get a sense of what kind of exchange might make sense (I haven’t even scouted the rookie class this year.) Feel free ot make a proposal, but please be patient as I likely will not have a meaningful response for a few days.

Apologies - I was replying to emails not realizing that they were creating automatic board posts. If I do take over, I will certainly be open to significant roster overhaul. My strongest assets appear to be the Rogers-to-Adams combo and the #1 draft pick. As fantasy imitates life I expect that splitting up the QBB-WR combo might become reality. So - with the caveat that I am still a few days research away from understanding what a good deal might look like I am happy to entertain offers for Adams, Rogers, and/or the #1 overall pick.

But I will be favoring young talent with future value, since I am obviously not a piece or two away from domination this season.

And it all becomes moot if Overly comes back

Comes back and actually wants to keep the team. Odds are that he would be happy for you to take over.

Another point in favor of making a decision fast…we don’t want Mundi wasting his time.

End of day Wednesday seems like a reasonable time to transfer ownership. I might hold out a little longer if I was sure he was committed to the league, but he mentioned last year that his life has become busier and he’s losing interest in fantasy.

@Spiritus_Mundi, I suggest you look at previous threads (linked from the OP) and previous drafts to get an idea of the sort of trades that happen, the way drafts happen, and just general discussion about the league. Most of us have been doing this for a long time now (this league has very little turnover - this will be the 5th? new owner in 14 years) and we’d be happy to help with any sort of questions you might have, including strategy suggestions.

We draft here in the thread over the course of 10 days or so. It’s pretty fun. Typically we’ll make 2 to 10 picks each day, with usually around 60 total picks.

We are free to trade before, during and after the draft. You can trade next year’s draft picks, but not beyond that. Trades need to leave each side with 25 slots this year and next year, so for example if you wanted to trade two players for one, you might offer your two guys for their one guy plus their last pick.

Google dynasty rookie rankings to come up with your list of prospects. Generally you want somewhere between 50 and 100 guys on the list. You can also check the league for available veterans, but that’s hard to tell because cuts haven’t been applied yet. Better to focus on rookies for the first couple rounds, and maybe start checking veteran free agents by round 3. Probably nothing great but you never know.

You can also google dynasty trade calculator for sanity checks and for valuing draft picks. In both cases ‘dynasty’ is the key keyword.

As for your roster specifically, there are a couple of us without starting quarterbacks, including myself. Aaron Rodgers as a stopgap for a year or two is quite attractive. That’s legitimate trade bait you have.

I would recommend reviewing my draft history for a very clear example of what NOT to do.

Ellis, can you grab my roster too? I think I’ve finalized my cuts, but it’ll be easier to track everybody the last few days before the deadline with your system.

Whoa, whoa, that’s not fair! Baker Mayfield is the starting QB of the Carolina Panthers Professional Football Team. And Daniel Jones! You have 3 QBs with a combined overall draft position of 10. That’s an amazing trio! You’re fine!

No worries.

For a second there my little app wasn’t working, but it turned out that the clipboard had stopped working entirely on my computer. Never saw that before. (Windows 10.) As you might imagine, restarting fixed it right up.

It was super weird, though. I opened notepad, typed a few letters, but then couldn’t copy & paste even that text inside notepad. You know the clipboard is fucked if it doesn’t even work inside notepad. (My program uses the clipboard to grab the roster.)

That is so weird. That used to happen to my XP machine at work years and years ago, but I don’t think I’ve seen it since.

For now:

Moridwon

QB

Patrick Mahomes
Joe Burrow
Zach Wilson

RB

Austin Ekeler
Javonte Williams
Devin Singletary
Rashaad Penny
Marlon Mack

WR

Keenan Allen
Michael Gallup
Brandon Aiyuk
Mike Williams
Tyler Boyd
Gabriel Davis
JuJu Smith-Schuster
Michael Thomas

TE

Mike Gesicki
Darren Waller
Irv Smith Jr.

K

Justin Tucker

DEF

Tampa Bay
Buffalo

CUTS

D’Onta Foreman
Boston Scott
Jaret Patterson
Brevin Jordan
Chris Carson
Kylin Hill
Tyler Johnson

That should leave me with 3 draft picks.

Question - the team I might inherit sits at 28. Am I precluded from making any deals until I finalize enough cuts to take me below 25 when the transaction completes? Or do I just need to get to 25 before the draft begins?

You can agree to trades in principle, that’s normal. You have to be down to 25 by the time the draft starts; however, that would mean you would have no picks in the draft. You get 1 pick for each empty roster spot under 25.

Any trades you agree to which involve picks mean you are forced to make cuts to satisfy those trades. So if you trade your first round pick this year, you are then required to cut down to 24 to satisfy that trade
