Thanks - one more question (well, 2 in 1)
I have Tim Patrick and Gus Edwards currently on IR in RL. Am I allowed to assign them to IR now and not have them count against the “25 or less”?

Unfortunately, no. IR spots don’t exist until after the draft when rosters are finalized. So there isn’t any IR spot to actually place them into. Once the draft is over and we finalize the rosters, then you can place them into IR as normal
…at which point you would have 23 and could sign two free agents.
Just so everyone is advised, I have my annual IRL $$$ Fantasy Draft trip this weekend. Me and a bunch of idiots are gonna be overindulging in Miami from Thursday-Sunday. I mention it because there may be long stretches where I could be incommunicado. I also have been guilty of being less than prepared when the draft begins as a result, I will do my best to not let that happen this year.

Alright, no word from Overly, so unless he checks in at the last minute we’ll go ahead and have the ownership change tonight at midnight eastern in about 10 hours.
I’d like to thank everyone for their commitment to the league - we’ve been really stable over the years with only a few people leaving and that stability is really important for a league like this. Dynasty is fairly popular now, but when we started 14 years ago hardly anyone was doing it, and I doubt many of those leagues survive with little turnover to this day, so I wouldn’t be shocked if we have one of the longest running, most stable dynasty leagues in the world.
What’s even more unique is that most of us have never met! We’re not even coworkers in distant offices and we’ve only used live drafting a couple of times. I think the initial draft and then once or twice when the slow draft got too close to the start of the NFL season
TENTATIVE CUTS
Devontae Booker
Larry Rountree III
Jamison Crowder
DeAndre Carter
That gives me four picks (1.03, 1.08, 2.03, 3.03).
This is a minor point, but it’s important: You get your own picks when you make cuts (1.03, 2.03, 3.03, and 4.03). Then, when we start the draft, the trades finalize and the picks get sent from previous trades (giving you the 1.08). The reason for this is that your “last pick” changes depending on which way you process/calculate this, and it causes bookkeeping problems when finalizing the rosters
You’re right. I forgot about that bit of bookkeeping.
Those are the four picks I will own, and 4.03 will get shipped off to Peteys when I get 1.08.
The end result is the same, so it is a minor issue. I only mention it to make sure the process is clear behind the scenes.
How do you feel about the trade now that you see what pick you got and what players are likely to be available around there?
I’m actually feeling pretty good about it.
I’ll miss Aaron Jones (opinions seem to be pretty split between “He’ll be RB1” and “He’s destined for a 50-50 share with AJ Dillion”), but I like a few players that should be around at 1.08, so fingers crossed.
As for our trade, I’m very happy about it. I’m glad to be rid of Miles Sanders and I like Mike Evans a lot more than AJ Brown. But I wish you all the luck with him.
Nice, congratulations! I’m in such a similar boat it’s kind of eerie. My four picks will be 1.02, 1.09, 2.02, 3.02.
Drafting four guys then getting the fuck out at the top of the third round owners unite!
Hell yes! I know I’m not going to get everyone I want, but I feel like I’m in a good position to draft my top choices with these picks.
Alright, @Spiritus_Mundi, welcome to the league. I send an ownership transfer invite to your e-mail registered in the HHM league but if you want to sign up with another address PM that to me. The team is yours now - you’re free to make trades or make your cuts. Ask any questions you might have, we’ll help you get started.
My own trade with Ellis which cost me my 1st this year has objectively been a major loss for me so far. Running the trade through the calculators today comes out as a significant loss for me. But there’s still time for that to turn around. Obviously it just takes Christian McCaffrey being healthy for a season or two to do it. I was primarily motivated to get into the top 4 to get Devonta Smith or Ja’Marr Chase. Smith is the one that fell, and he has been as advertised. So I still feel like I got what I wanted from it, even if I lost in value.
As for our trade, it has worked out really well for both of us. Miles Sanders is really iffy as a starting RB, but as my 3rd/4th RB, he’s ideal. A.J. Brown is an absolute stud, and he will do for Hurts what I correctly predicted that Stefon Diggs would do for Josh Allen.
I made this post last year before the draft but I’m going to post it here again because it still applies.
Alright, so listen up: I am not going to institute a hard-and-fast 12 hour rule on picks this year, where the next player up can automatically act 1 minute after the deadline expired. However, I am going to be tighter on time and quicker to pass people’s picks if they are late with no indication as to why or when they might be back. I do my best not to upset anyone in this league, and so when someone goes missing from their pick, I typically give them time to get back to it. However, the last couple of years that has been used too much, and we’ve had the draft come to a grinding halt at times, pissing everyone off.
If you do get skipped because you haven’t made your pick in a long time, you don’t lose that pick, you’re just giving people behind you a chance to jump ahead. You can come back in and make your pick at any time. So if you’re missing, and we let the next 2 people draft, you can come in and take your pick - you just can’t take either of those two players that were drafted since you missed your pick. I think this is how the actual NFL draft works - you basically just get your pick moved back until you make it.
So, I’m going to make some points:
Check your PMs on the board. Since we can’t trade picks in yahoo, everyone sends trade offers through the threads or through private messages. When you have a private message, it’ll be a green notification on the top right of your screen. You can set up the board options to e-mail you when you receive a PM if you need it (I think). If you need to send a message, or check your messages without a notification, click on your avatar on the top right of the screen and then click the messages icon.
I strongly suggest responding to trade offers even if you’re not interested in the one being offered, even just to say that you aren’t interested. Maybe they can offer a different deal. At the very least, it’s good for someone to know that you aren’t interested in that deal so they can move on. It also means they know you’re listening, so they’re more likely to keep sending offers, which may end up benefitting you. Don’t be a black hole for trade offers and just not respond to them at all.
If you might make a trade, send out feelers ahead of time. Something like “depending on who’s available, I may be interested in your next pick” is fine. It lets the person know that they might have an interested trade party when their pick comes up. The flip side of this is if you haven’t heard anything, and you have no specific deal in mind or owners you might want to trade with, don’t wait around for 12 hours hoping something comes in. I think this is one of the things that ends up slowing down the draft. You definitely do not have to use all the time available - if you know what you’re going to do, just make the pick. If you’re in trade talks and need more time, that’s fine, let us know.
If you are going to be unavailable for a long time during your pick, you can send me or Jules a pre-ranking list that lists the players you want to draft if they’re available. We won’t look at it until your pick is up, nor use it to our advantage. It’s just a way to make things run more smoothly if you’re taking a hike through the Amazon when your pick comes up. If you’re worried about your availability but don’t want to do that, at least keep us informed about when you might be available. That will play a role in whether we decide to move on from your pick when you’ve been on the clock for longer than 12 hours.
A reminder that our drafts are for any unowned players (any players not found on anyone’s fantasy roster), not just rookies. You can take anyone who is not on someone else’s team already. Jules or I will update the draft on yahoo and post it periodically to indicate what players have been taken, and yahoo should let you search for unowned players based on that.
I encourage any sort of commentary, snark, predictions, and other talk during the draft. The in-thread draft, when it goes off smoothly, is one of the highlights of the year. The slow format we use over a week gives plenty of time for people to talk about things as they happen. We usually are pretty chatty during the draft, but I want to encourage more participation in this league.
Thanks - I have taken control and changed the name. Please update your smack macros to reflect Formerly Sentimental
One question - do I drop players in trhe Yahoo league in order to make the cuts official, or only post them here. Regardless, first set of cuts will be:
That takes me down to 23. More cuts very likely to follow.
Just post them here, we’ll take care of roster management when we process the draft within yahoo.
