SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year 15

Considering how dismal this WR class is, it’s weird that RBs seemed to slide so much. I wonder if this is the fewest RBs taken in the first two rounds in our draft.

This draft has been bizarrely slow on RBs. Not that there are a lot of great RBs this year, but even in years where there aren’t many RBs we start reaching for them like 2 rounds ahead before we draft QBs or TEs or 3rd or 4th tier WRs. QB has also been a surprise this year, some of those guys usually wouldn’t go to the 2nd or 3rd rounds.

QB Class feels very weak to me - Richardson has the home run potential but could also be Tebow mark II. Young is landing in a bad situation for an owner without patience. I kind of like Stroud as a player, but his situation is even worse and a bad environment is brutal for a young #1 pick.

I like the WR class quite a bit. No Chase or Jefferson up top, but lots of very solid WR upside down to WR10-ish. I really like Flowers, JSN, Mims, and Johnston. But it is easy to make strong cases for Mingo, Addison, Hyatt . . .

I think the RB slide reflects the uncertainty of so many backfields. RBBC’s abound, and finding a volume target in today’s NFL is a rare beast. Even Robinson, who I love as a player, is likely to see meaningful volume leach to Allgeier. Then again - what do I know. RB’s are hte weakest part of my roster already :slight_smile:

Corollary: The prevalence of RBBCs means that most of us have at least 2-3 RBs who we expect to see meaningful carries already on our roster. While it depresses the availability of the bell cow, it also means there are fewer pure ambulance chasers clogging up rosters. I’m keeping CEH and he may have acceptable flex value even though he lost the starting job to Pacheco. 5 years ago, CEH would probably be an FA and I’d be hunting for the next Shanahan breakout guy.

Alrighty, looks like we’re wrapped for the night. Excellent work, gentlemen. I should be able to make my pick in the morning assuming Retro does as well, same times as this morning.

Here’s a complete data dump for the entire draft to this point. Full draft order, all picks so far, both future trades, and an updated list of cut free agents. (I pulled Pierre out. Missed that the first time around.)

EDIT: One minor note is that this draft has 54 picks, not 53. Peteys’ pick at 6.12 was missing from the original count.

3.03 Will Levis, QB, Ten

@EllisDee is on the clock.

Didn’t see that coming.

Nor I. Beef is right that we have prioritized QBs in this draft versus other years. I was genuinely thinking one of the big three - Stroud, Richardson, Young - might be available at 3.1. But considering 2 were gone at 2.1 it was pretty obvious the others wouldn’t get out of the second round. Though to be fair, we usually don’t have three guys who have been handed the starting job before week 1. These guys most commonly see the field after the bye nowadays.

Of course, getting to that point and finding Howell available made my draft. I needed a guy who would score points now because Herbert is the only other QB on my roster.

Agreed. I need a QB with Brady retiring and Levis is the last one I see with a meaningful chance of being a starter.

On top of that I only have Cousins and Tua (who seems to be always hurt).

I see nothing. For BPA I have the TE in Vegas, but I already drafted a TE I’m excited about and I think Vegas boy kind of sucks. Originally the plan was RB but the top on my board is 5’5", which I don’t love, but also I have enough RBs and am way short on WR. Top two WR prospects on my board play for IND and ARI, but I already have Pittman and Hollywood. Definitely don’t want to double-dip on the passing attack of either of those teams. So that leaves me with:

3.04 Puka Nacua, WR, LAR

@Justin_Bailey is on the clock.

Sorry about that, Justin sent me a pre-rank list but I’m just getting on now.

3.05 Eric Gray, RB, NYG

Justin actually did a clever thing and put spoiler boxes on his pre-rank list so that I would only reveal them one at a time, and only move on to the next one if necessary. Since he got his first pick, I’m not going to look at the other two. I suggest other people do the same thing if they send me pre-rank lists.

@Ol_Gaffer is on the clock.

3.01 RNATB - Rashee Rice, WR, KC
3.02 Omni - Cedric Tillman, WR, CLE
3.03 Retro - Will Levis, QB, Ten
3.04 Ellis - Puka Nacua, WR, LAR
3.05 Justin - Eric Gray, RB, NYG
3.06 Gaffer -

3.12 Peteys -

Beef, what’s your scouting report on Tillman?

3.06 Michael Mayer, TE, LV

@dalej42 is up

I used to really keep up with all the Browns stuff in the offseason, watching the preseason games with scrutiny, read the camp reports, but I just haven’t, at all, the last few years, so I honestly have no information on any Browns players that isn’t whatever the fantasy consensus says.

I almost drafted Mayer at the 2.11. He doesn’t project to be a fantasy star because he doesn’t have that speed to be a Kelce type hybrid player but he looks like a guy who’s going to be a safety blanket reliable contested catch guy who never comes off the field because he’s a good all-around TE. Great hands, body control, and has the general sort of savvy to use his skills well. I think he’ll be a reliable TE8 type of guy for 10 years, the sort of guy real NFL teams love but never quite a fantasy star.

Israel Abanikanda-RB NYJ

@Spiritus_Mundi is up

I almost picked Mayer at 3.02, but I’m loaded up with young TEs with breakout potential. I’m actually kind of high on him and think with McDaniels he might end up having a Mark Andrews-like start to his career. He probably isn’t going to be Kelce, but I like his odds to be a rich-man’s Freiermuth. This TE class is loaded, it will be interesting to see how many pan out and if they all do, how will that effect the overall demand for TEs in fantasy.

Bottom half of round 3. Must be time for a homer reach pick.

Trey Palmer, WR, TB

@dalej42 is up again again

I will try to get this in later, out doing Friday night stuff. We’re way ahead.
