He wouldn’t lose the pick entirely, he’d just lose as many slots as people who drafted after him. So if we skip him, and 2 people make their picks, and he comes back, he could make the 5th pick right then.
That’s not a bad idea for future consideration, but it doesn’t directly take care of moving the draft along to make time like skipping does.
This is as fair question. I try to get an outcome that leaves everyone happy and is still fair and we’ve always managed to get the draft done on time so I try not to be punishing when it can be avoided. Skipping a pick could become a sore point for years to come if the player someone would’ve taken becomes a star and the one they took is a bust - that may breed multi-year resentment and lower league participation, and I have to weigh that consideration against the benefit of saving some time that we can probably make up later. It also lets us scale the enforcement with the importance of the decision - it’d be much less consequential to enforce the rule if this pick was in the third round.
A cut and dried enforcement of the rules is a valid way of doing things, but I trust in the good faith of the people in this league and so I try to work with people rather than giving a strict ruling whenever possible. We’ve had a 15 year history of doing a pretty fair job with that, I think.
Also, on the off chance that he has notifications sent to his e-mail or something, @Omniscient, you’re up and over time. I’ll also send him a league e-mail.
I think we’ll be alright guys, and would be strongly opposed to someone getting jumped in the 1st round. Especially since we have never before enforced the overnight time as counting.
Well, we’re a little behind schedule. But if we get several picks in today / tonight we should be okay.
I checked last year’s thread for comparison. We got five picks in by 8pm the first night, then pick six didn’t come in until 2pm the next day. Right now, essentially. So we’re four picks behind last year’s pace.
In terms of a goal to catch back up, last year I made the 9th pick at 4am the following morning, which would be 14 hours from now. Meaning we started tomorrow morning with 1.10 on the clock.
EDIT: Yay! I see Omni typing. Hopefully that means I can pick in a couple minutes here.
Betting on Justin Herbert and Kellen Moore, I’m going with Quentin Johnston. I want a big WR who has a shot to be the clear #1 to a promising young franchise QB within the next 2-3 years. None of that describes Addison.
Johnston is a good pick - definitely the best situation on paper for years 2+. Addison likely gets more opportunity year 1. JSN has plenty of warning flags but his 2021 tape is simply too good to ignore. He has the best chance to be this year’s Chase or Jefferson, but also a (small) chance to be Kevin White.
So i check my phone on a pit stop thinking theres a good chance i can just pull the trigger and keep things moving . . . but NOOOOO.
@Jules_Andre has to swoop in (after trading with Jalen Waddle’s grandmother, apparently) and grab my guy.
figures.
@Justin_Bailey - Yahoo phone app wont let me see rosters right now. Send me an offer for 1.08 if you (or anyone else] is interested. Ill be parjed at a hotel in about 3 hours and will review messages and then make the pick or trade.
Richardson was a mediocre college quarterback - I know, I watch Gator football - and he will be an awful NFL QB. He might get you 800 yards on the ground but he won’t pass for 800. And everything Irsay touches turns to sewage. I’m just waiting for Quentin Nelson to retire due to crabs.
But that’s a good trade. Waddle is a complete receiver and two late first rounders are worth a sure thing.
