@Omniscient is on the clock

And….let’s keep this rodeo going. I’m not in love with JSN who is is either #2 or #3 depending on where you look.

If someone in the 4-7 range wants to move up for him or another spicy target, let’s talk.

Nice trade, makes sense for both sides, I think. Kinda interesting to open up this pick to trade, too. Opening up a pick for trade at midnight eastern might not lead to the best opportunities, but let’s see!

No rest for the weary.

Definitely should have gotten things rolling during work hours, but it’s a case of the Mondays. Will try to avoid slowing things down too much.

It’s fine to take time if you’re actually working on a deal so no problem there. There’s also an expectation that overnight will probably be slow. I just don’t want people to, generally, wait most of their time for trade offers that haven’t already been set up with some interest discussions. So put out feelers if you might be interested in trading up for a slot. Nothing has to be definite to get the discussion going.

Also, since the conclusion of the trade talks seemed to me that most people who were against the current system sort of made peace with it (I should’ve held a formal vote, my bad on that), we’re still using the old rules. In that case there should be a balancing swap where Retro gets Omni’s (vacated) last round pick.

Just to re-state, that’s not really having Omni “give up” anything additional. Once he cuts X players next year before the draft, and then, when the draft is created, he receives the 2nd round pick, and he now has X-1 slots to draft players. That leaves his last pick unusable to him, and swapping it back to Retro is just a courtesy and an elegant book keeping method.

I’m quite certain I’ve reverse jinxed Gibbs. He’s likely hall of fame bound now.

Assuming 1.03 happens sometime in the morning, expect my 1.04 around noon.

Is it too much to ask that if anyone else is pondering whether to trade out of their round 1 position they reach out now to their potential trade partners (or advertise generally in this thread?) I’m likely over-reacting since I will be traveling this evening and was anticipating making my pick before I left, but it feels like we are really slow out of the gate. Admittedly, I have only 1 year with which to compare but I think we had 5 picks in the books before the first overnight last year.

2 picks made after 24 hours. At this rate, we’ll wrap up this draft by … carry the 2 … by week 3 of the regular season. And that with about 3 months of preparation and knowing draft positions for the first couple rounds and likely targets.

We definitely should speed things up. I don’t like to actually enforce the 12 hour rule but I will if we have to. I’m less likely to enforce it at the beginning of the draft when each pick is more important, or overnight when it’s understandable that there’s some lost time, but let’s get this moving so I don’t have to make a hard decision about it.

  1. Send out feelers for potential trade deals ahead of time so people don’t have to guess whether people might be interested in their picks
  2. If there’s no interest, don’t use your whole time slot to wait for last-minute interest
  3. Be aware of when your pick is coming up and try to be prepared for it.

It’s been 12 hours. What time can I jump the queue?

Getting your #3 overall pick skipped is something that people may hold a grudge about for years to come so I’m really hesitant to do it, especially since he hasn’t been on the boards since I talked about enforcing it. I know it’s on the slow side, and hopefully he’ll pop on soon to make his pick, but let’s give him 6 more hours. If he hasn’t checked in by then, you can make the pick and he can then jump in any time he’s back and make his pick (which obviously cannot be anyone who was drafted after his pick was skipped).

Skipping picks should be a last resort. But waiting until the draft starts to instigate trade discussions when you already know you want to trade down and running out the clock to wait for a reply isnt great either.

Agreed. I was thinking something like 4pm, not right this minute. 6pm seems reasonable. (Eastern time zone.)

Maybe he shouldn’t lose pick 1.03, but there should definitely be a penalty for passing the 12 hour deadline. Forfeiture of later picks or picks next year, waiver wire money, something…why even have rules if they are not enforced?

Traditionally, we don’t count overnights in terms of the 12-hour clock.

The issue right now is that this is an exceptionally slow start, and we have an unusually large amount of picks to get through.

Then again, we could fairly skip him by just penciling Jaxon into the 1.03 spot and then continue on right now…
