Well, I just opened a league in Sandbox. It’s set up for 14 teams, rank each position, private (so you’ll need the password), draft is done automatically on 8/29/00.
There are new options there this year - as Satan wanted, a league can be set up for a “live” draft. They also have a “slow live draft,” but I didn’t check the details. I assume it means you’ll get an e-mail notice when your next pick is up. Now that I think about it, that might be cool. Maybe I’ll change it to that. Let me know who wants in, and which rules you want – they can still be changed for now. I’m not sure if they can be changed after others join the league - so I’ll mak ethe necessary changes and then handout the password.
Judging by the reply, I’m sure we have more than enough interest for multiple leagues.
Ooops! I almost got myself into trouble with the sandbox.net people. I didn’t realize you could only have one team. I already had one, so I had to close up the new team/league I just opened.
I did check into their new options though, they have both a live draft where you have to be online continuously, and a slow live draft that e-mails you when each pick is made. once it’s your turn, you have up to 24 hours to make your next pick.
I’m with Satan…I personally prefer Yahoo, as long as we don’t repeat the rules mistakes from last year. Regradless of whereever we go, I think we’re going to end up with multiple leagues, so keep signing up, y’all!
What say I start a league on Yahoo (I was a Commish over there last year in another league) and you start a league at Sandbox since you like that one. It looks like we have more than enough people for two leagues here.

Register yourself. I highly recommend naming your team so that all of your fellow league members will know who you are on the SDMB. For example, my team is listed as Milo’s Malevolent Marauders.
You will then have the opportunity to join a league. In the search portion, type “Straight Dope.”
Set the number of players you would like to draft at each position on your draft card.
Set your draft orders, if you don’t want to go with the pre-set rankings.
You are set to go! When the league fills (I think I set it for 12 teams) we will have our draft. And then the trash talk can really start.
Why is it set as public? It definately should not be. Also are we going to do a live draft? I really think we should and if we’re not I’ll volunteer to join a different league that is. Who are the Pennsylvania Buckhunters?Beyond that Omni’s All Knowing Deities are going to kick ass and take names.
Milo straighten out that public/private issue and if Pennsylvania is a random what should we do about it since it looks like we’ll have alot of Dopers who want to be in there?
WE need to start deciding how to place Dopers into the likely multiple leauges. I’d hate to have anyone left out, or to have the last few people get into a league with only 3 teams. I think a diplomatic method should be arranged and we need to decide how many leagues, what services, and the type of draft of each so the owners can volunteer for certain leagues.

I accidently set up the Sandbox league in public, and was having difficulty changing it.
Therefore, I’ve scrapped it and formed a new private one, to ensure only Dopers are in the league.
If you signed up for the “Straight Dope” league, use the options to drop yourself from it.
Follow the aforementioned links and instructions, but type in “SDMB” as your league choice.
It’s private and you’ll need the password, which is cecil.
I set it up for 10 teams, figuring between the sandbox and Yahoo leagues, that will be enough.
The sandbox league is set up as an off-line draft. You prioritize your players and set the number you want to draft at each position. You don’t have to be connected when the draft occurs (which happens when the league fills up).
If you want the live draft, go with the Yahoo league.
Get in while there are spots, so we can have the draft and really start talking smack.
Another important suggestion, you may really want to change the draft date from “when league fills” to a firm date. This is important because not everyone (me) has time to rank all his players when the sign up, and who knows when it’ll fill. So we need a goal to shoot or to make sure we get our players ranked if it stays a non-live draft.
I really think its probably a good idea that no one signs up until we organize how we’ll be arranging Dopers into leagues.
Now, we have over a month to straighten this stuff out, what say we slow down and let everyone who’s responded so far get organized before the mad scramble starts to fill leagues. It’ll turn into a giant cluster fuck. If its an option, close your league to new sign ups for the time being so we can be fair about this.
Omni - it doesn’t seem to give you a lot of options once the league is formed. I’ll see what I can do.
It wouldn’t be the end of the world if the league fills up quick, anyway. Just keep creating leagues till everyone’s happy. I would be surprised if more than 20 people (If the Yahoo league will be 10 teams as well) make the commitment.
It was my experience on SDMB Fantasy Baseball that a lot of the people who expressed interest never actually signed up.
I’ll be waiting for the Yahoo league. I liked the live draft last year. So alas, Milo, your ass won’t get to be kicked by Falcon’s Fighting Fools. sweet smile
