SDMB FF Dynasty League: Year Two

Stunningly, I just need 10 points from Mason Crosby to win in HHM, despite everyone on my team performing horribly… and just 5 to win in this league.

That means he’ll probably kick 4 extra points and no field goals.

Don’t look now but the #1 and #2 players in this league are #11 and #12 from last year.

I don’t think my success will hold up.

My policy so far has been not to do this – or, at least, not to do it as a matter of course. This is because there will invariably be 2 or 3 weekends a year (like this one) during which I’m simply not around to intervene, and I don’t like the idea of some people getting their trades fast-tracked and some having to wait, and we’ve already had one trade voted down in this league so it’s not like it’s impossible, and there was some minor unpleasantness over a fast-tracking in the All-Pro league, IIRC. So, while I’m not saying it can’t happen if the circumstances seem to warrant it, in general, plan on needing to wait two days for your trades to clear.

The whole league is topsy-turvy from last year.

  12. (7.) Varlos’ Zzzzzzz

This’ll get even weirder after the final results for this week are in.

Assuming I get 5 points out of Mason Crosby tonight I’ll go to 2-1, so things will be slightly less weird. I’ll still be third from last in points scored, though!

Well, whaddya know. :smack:

Fun Fact:

Teams have scored 478.80 points against me. That is almost 90 points more than the nearest other team, and over 230 points more than a team with an undefeated record. To put that into perspective, I have had teams score 30 more points a week than the nearest other team. 30 points a week.

So, despite being second place in the entire league in total points, I’m 0-3.

That’s our Fun Fact for the day.

You undersold it. Second in points is one thing; to be a mere 1.75 points behind the leader and over 40 points ahead of third place is brutal when 1st and 3rd are both 3-0 while you suffer the ignominy of 0-3.

As I said, with week 3 done, the differences between this year and last year are even weirder:

Does anyone have an objection to allowing FAAB money to be included in trade offers? I don’t we think we ever discussed it here, though the issue was brought up in passing in other leagues. I ask because I just sent out an offer involving money, so I figured now might be a better time to bring it up than later.

Doesn’t bother me.

In that case, who wants to sell a #2 WR for $50?

Seems fine to me, especially if it’s just use to balance a slightly uneven trade.

**Varlos **and **furt **(Fightin’ Quakers) have agreed to a trade:
Varlos sends:
QB Chad Henne
WR Darrius Heyward-Bey

furt sends:
DEF Kansas City
WR Anthony Gonzales

  1. I wanted a 3rd DEF, and I like KC’s chances to be good for the long haul – they’ve carpet bombed their defense with with very high draft picks in recent years, and as those picks mature it will be hard for this unit not be at least pretty decent, and quite possibly better.

  2. Wow am I ever un-excited about Gonzales, but who knows, I guess I back-doored into an opportunity to put my “pedigree” theory to the test (1st Rounder with 4th and 6th Rounders ahead of him on the depth chart).

  3. If something happens to Matt Ryan, I’ll be down to Alex Smith and Colt McCoy at QB. Gulp.

  4. On a more general not, I’d like to say that this is the sort of thing I like about this league: it’s just swap of a few third-tier prospects and young DEF with a small amount of upside, but it shows the kind of fine-tuning you can (and should) do with your team, and the kind of thing you just won’t have reason to do in a typical league.

Oh, and I guess one more:

You guys ever have one of those moments of clarity with your fantasy team? I just had one this morning. I’ve always kinda liked my team in this league. Middle of the pack last year, but I specifically drafted for youth and upside (almost certainly the youngest team last year and this), so I wasn’t worried, figuring I’d get a little better this year and then maybe a lot better in Year 3.

And then this morning I go to set my provisional starters for the week, and I have a problem at WR. Santonio Holmes has one game left on his suspension. Dez Bryant and Mike Williams (TB) have byes. Kenny Britt I like as a player, but right now Tennessee is averaging, no joke, 16 pass attempts per game, and I just can’t start him until that changes. Marion Barber is on a bye and Knowshown Moreno is hurt, leaving me with only 2 RBs who can plausibly start (and even theyreally shouldn’t be). And so I found myself about a hair’s breadth away from starting 2 TEs from my 25-man goddamn roster … and not even good Tight Ends! Olson and Gresham, 15th and 21st in the pre-season projections – so, theoretically, neither should be starting for ***any ***team! And I almost had to start both!

Of course, now that I’ve traded Darrius Heyward-Bey (who has an awesome matchup this week and is actually not a bad play), I actually *will *have to start my two mediocre TEs. And of course I’m 0-3. Oh, woe is me…

I was in the weird position last week of only having one starting quality RB on my roster. In a 25 man league.

And people say I go nuts with RBs…

I have started two TEs every week this league has existed. Most of the time that’s not the end of the world, since the two I start are usually Antonio Gates and Dustin Keller, but still, just wanted to point out that starting two TEs isn’t necessarily a crime.

I’ve been doing that for most of the time as well. Last year I had Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten for most of the year, traded Witten away near the end of the season, and then traded to get him back at the start of this season.

That said, I seem to collect QBs (I have five starting QBs on my roster right now), so if anyone’s looking to upgrade I’m open to any and all trade offers.

I’m starting Zach Miller and Owen Daniels this week, unless a decent wideout miraculously falls into my lap. Got a good feeling about that Moo Cows/Raiders game, and Robert Meachem has been pretty much invisible.
