Incidentally, the way we ended up with the current division assignments was that we mooted and then tossed out a bunch of other methods for slotting. Somebody even had the thing arranged by join date and post count.
Then Varlos posted two different geographic arrangements, the first of which we went with:
Has anyone’s location changed, other than furt?
Yeah, I’d forgotten that we ended up going with geographical areas. I change my vote to keeping it the same as last year.
I’m drafting from Ohio sons!
We also switched out The Mad Hermit for Omni, but Omni’s from the Chicago area, right? So it would work even better keeping that team in the Midwest division (as if it matters, but still).
Like most others I don’t feel all that strongly about the issue, but my personal preference has always been to keep the same divisions. Let me go back and take a look at the opinions that have been registered to see if I can summarize them here.
Oh, and Beef: does it look as if you’re going to be able to make the draft?
Yeah I’ll be here.
Cool.
So, as it happens, we have a majority who have explicitly expressed support (to one degree or another) for keeping last year’s setup: me, Ellis, furt, Stringer, RNATB, Hamlet, and Justin Bailey. Even allowing for a change of mind or mistaken intention on my part, no other option has that kind of backing, so it looks like that’s the way we’re going to go this year. I’ll now get to setting the divisions and the schedule on Yahoo – hopefully, the latter will be easier than it was last year.
We could switch Beef with RetroVertigo, since Missouri is more Sunbelty than Ohio, but I don’t think that’s really necessary - certainly not when you consider that the Cowboys play in the NFC East.
I’m just in Ohio for another few weeks and I don’t really care about the geographic distinctions anyway.
Ok, schedule’s in place. It’s the same as last year: “Everyone will play their first three divisional games during the first half of the season, most within the first five weeks. Everyone plays a divisional game in Week 1. In Weeks 8-11 there are no divisional games: everyone hits the road. Finally, the last three weeks are entirely intra-divisional.”
The only wrinkle is that I made sure that last year’s top two teams from each division play each other in the final week of the season. If anyone has any other neat little ideas let me know, but wholesale revamping is likely out of the question given the time required to make everything fit.
Sounds like a neat schedule, thanks for doing it.
I really like that final-game-showdown thing, although I’d be surprised if the top two teams in any division this year are the same.
Tick-tock, folks.
I’m pumped.
So what are we thinking, half hour from start to finish?
Probably less. Average of three picks each?
I call dibs on Ryan Matthews!!!
I’m actually looking forward to the draft to get the bad taste of my live draft out of my mouth.
I actually drafted gulp Jay Cutler. Ouch.
What round? The guy will be slinging it this year.
7th round, so he was too good of value to pass up. I think he may be in a coma by week 3, so in the 8th I took Kolb to back him up. Every Sunday I have to start him, a little bit of my soul will die.
The draft is going to start moving very quickly for the folks with 5 or more draft picks. There will be five picks in Rounds 5 and 6, then four in Round 7, then two, then one. There are only 59 picks total.
I pre-ranked 34 players, which should be plenty.
There’s one guy I can’t justify taking with the 7th overall pick, but who almost certainly won’t make it to me in the second round (19th overall), and it’s pissing me off a little. I bet **Beef **takes him at #13…

I’ve got about 4 guys that I’d love to take in the 2nd or 3rd round. None that I love at #3 overall. In the second round I’ll probably be grasping at straws. Go figure.
