SDMB Fiction Club - Catch-22

How 'bout this? I’m going to start a thread later today meant for everyone who’s read through Chapter Fourteen–that’s up to page 149 in my edition. While all are welcome to participate, people can also sit out of the thread until the book is discussed en toto next week.

In fact, if someone else wants to start that thread right now, they should; I’m not far enough along again to be able to give good discussion-starters. In fact, I’m off to read during my lunch hour right now.

If no one’s started the sectional thread this evening, I’ll do it. Of course, you’d have to be crazy not to start the sectional thread…

When did I marry this guy?

Guess I have to dig out the white cotton gloves and tweezers.

The best book ever!!! I’ve read it cover to cover at least three times. Right now I’m in the middle of three others, though…oh well, maybe next time. I just had to come in here and say that it is the best book ever.

Okay I started it late this morning and read the first 69 pages until the husband came home. I’m trying to get through Chapter 14 before I even sneak a peek at the other post.

Oh and in case you didn’t catch it in Wicked Blue’s topic, count me in!

i agree with scylla
we need to be careful that this is a feather in our cap by doing it right. if not it will be a real black eye. maybe a few chapters,no wait the whole book.
wait let me ask the Colonel…

Add me to your list of Catch-22 takers please.

Well leave it to me to do this bass-ackwards. I saw this thread develop, went & got the book, started reading & posted to the “sections” thread without ever signing up! How rude
Please, count me in?
Here’s the thread on chapters 1-14

I can’t believe that I’ve gone 26 years without reading this book. I’m in awe. This is the kind of book that would have made growing up in Podunk, Mississippi not so terribly boring.

I just have to post this before I explode:

“I’d rather have peanut brittle crumbs on my face than flies in my eyes,” Havermeyer retorted.

For some reason, that just makes a lot of sense to me right now.

And I owe a beer to the person who suggested this book.

Sophie, I’ll take a Newcastle Brown Ale, please.

How’s everyone coming along? Time for another thread yet?

(Oh, and I want more responses to my comparison of Clevinger’s trial and McCarthyism over in the other thread–I think the analogy is flawed in several important ways.)

I’d also like to talk about Yossarian’s missions.

Since I said “Count me in,” we’ve bought a house. Instead of having time to read, I’ve been arranging inspections and applying for mortgages.

I’m about halfway through and reading hard to catch up – be with you shortly …
