SDMB Flyting Competition Voting Thread

This is where we vote on, critique, and otherwise have fun with the SDMB Flyting Competition, Part 1: Limericks.

The poll will be up in a few minutes, and that’s where the official voting takes place. Feel free to add all of the commentary you wish, of course!

You’re welcome to vote for yourself, of course. I made it a public poll, though, so everyone can SEE that you voted for yourself and mock you for it

It’s flyting. Aren’t we *supposed *to vote for ourselves?

On review: Malacandra, for disdain that could make tall buildings wilt.

Looks like Malacandra is well in the lead so far! Had to go for his response to [c]Annie-Xmas** - yes, it’s an old joke, but it was done so well and scans/rhymes much better than most of the rest of the thread.

Never having participated in something like this previously, I guess I was ass/uming that we would be voting for people, not specific limericks. I’ll still cast a vote, of course, but wonder if the outcome would be any different.

So, **Malacandra ** definitely demonstrates a sustained level of quality throughout, and would therefore be my vote for individual winner. For an individual post, though, have to go with Hamster King’s ‘stinky fish.’ The meter and rhyme are perfect, and the “kimchi knish” finisher is excellent. Bravo!

I waffled back and forth over whether to select a person or a specific poem. Picking a person encourages everyone to post as many as they can in hopes of hitting just the right nerve with everyone at least once. That’s both a good thing and a bad thing.

If everyone wishes it, I could start a second voting thread to pick the winning participant, too.

I voted for Hamster King’s riff at the expense of cornflakes as I thought his “generative part” zinger was quite witty.

And on the evidence, it seems to have been mostly for the amusement of the participants. Not that an excuse for making up insulting limericks about each other is ever a bad thing.
