SDMB Footie Focus: december

The Bohse article is spot on (Mihir Bohse is a dyed in the wool yid and really does have some insight into what’s going on).

There’s an interesting article in the standard which compares our current team with the relgation side of 77.

Frightening reading. For the John Pratt memories alone.

Let’s see what happens tomorrow eh? Given Levy’s statement above about “major changes” it will be interesting.

And from that forum . . .

“I see that Pleat was at the Wimbledon V West Brom game last night sitting next to Paul Hart perhaps not coincidentally. I would have thought that he was watching Reo-Coker and Mcanuff again.”

Reo-Coker, anyone ?

Reo-Coker looks like a good prospect. A few clubs after him. I read that he’s team captain at only 19.

Good memories from that Standard article!

That was a grim season but the one after was the most fun I’ve ever had supporting Spurs. Some wonderful away days in that (then) Second Div. A wekend in Brighton, for example. Brilliant!

Even though pretty young, I’m pretty sure I went to more games that season than any other.
That aside, the strike force of Gerry Armstrong and Chris Jones still sends shivers up my spine . . .

which message board is this LC?

Cheers crusoe, and a Happy New Year to you and Oldham!

Owl - I didn’t link to Telegraph articles in the above post (because of that sign in thing) but to a message board where they’re posted - as mentioned most of them are your usual fodder but one or two are genuinely insightful.

btw, I know people still talk of Keith Osgood as being “under-rated” but I never was too convinced. Willy Young, though, dear oh dear . . .
See you all on the other side . . . have a good one!

Willy Young? The only player i was happy to see as a gooner.

And talking of gooners:

The headline ‘Reid set for Spurs’ sent a chill through me…
Until I realised it referred to the player…

well London the supporters I know are fairly peeved to be losing a key player for such an extended period, but don’t really think it will result in an out and out collapse.

On a side note, does anybody know anything about this striker Bolton are supposedly getting on loan from Athletico Madrid, name of Javi Moreno?

Is there a January thread?

I am interested to see what further developments may have happened to our quondam star striker.

The latest name in the hat for THFC - Roy Hodgson. For Fuck’s sake.

Also today is the aniversary of the Ibrox disaster that killed 66 people.

Waay heyyy!!!

We have a white! Yeah, the Leicster game was bad, hopefully after we stuff the Scum things will pick up. Hopefully we will sign Javi Moreno. He is a good player.

No January thread yet. Sentient Meat looks to be away at the moment. Lets give it until Monday to see if he wants to start a new thread ?

I know nothing of Javi Moreno but if it’s a loan there’s not a lot to lose . . . didn’t realise just how much debt Bolton had, something like £37-£38 million I believe ?
Went to Croydon vs. Horsham yesterday in sunny Sarf Norwood. Forgot how much I love non-league football and why. Haven’t laughed so much in ages. And met some old chums. Lost 4-2, though.

Will Spurs scrape a draw against Palace ? Very nervous about this game . . .

I too love non-League - I sometimes go and watch Tooting and Mitcham - egad they’re crap. It like watching a playground game.

If you’re in the general area I can heartily recommend AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow for a “jumpers for goalposts” day out.

All your small club cliches are here - old ladies with rattles, a meat raffle, adverts in the programme from local shops, wagon wheels, changing ends at half time (the fans that is). They get more fans that MK Wimbledon too. I even saw a pensioner with a rosette.

Welcome Mr Bean good to see another Trotter around the place. glad to hear Moreno is decent - how about this jamaican goalkeeper (Ricketts?) that we’re supposedly after?

He is a good player. AC Milan signed him from Alaves when they went on that good run in the UEFA cup, when they played Liverpool in the final.

Yeah thats the debt, but we have a new owner, Eddie Davies, he owns Eddie Stobart lol, and he is meant to be stabalising the debts so we don’t have to sell.

Yeah thanks.

Donavon Ricketts is ace. We’ve signed him on loan till the rest of the season, he played for Jamaca against Brazil a few months ago at the Walkers Stadium and he was brilliant, that match is were all the interest has arised from. Looking forward to seeing him play tomorrow.

So where abouts in Bolton you from?

I’m actually from Featherstone in West Yorkshire, but I live in Horwich. It’s just a 20 minute walk to the Reebok for me

Are right. So not that far from me. I live just of Beaumont Road:)
