SDMB Footie Focus: december

That’s a coincidence, I’ll probably be at Tooting and Mitcham on the 20th of March. Also went to Dulwich Hamlet just before Christmas; they’ve got a nice set up there (behind Sainsbury’s at the bottom of Dog Kennel Hill – very romantic).

There’s so many things to like at non-league; standing up, the smell of the turf, the smack of the ball, as you say, moving around at half time after a trip to the tea stand, the wind-ups (because the players and ref respond to the crowd), falling-down stadia . . . it’s just so wonderfully earthy and unglamorous.

A lot of odd looking people, though. I seemed to fit in quite well.

Featherstone? I thought that they were all egg-chasers up there. Do you follow both?

Owl - who wil admit to not knowing much about the north except that they strangle kestrels and die of black lung disease.

If asked I would say I was a Featherstone Rovers fan merely out of loyalty to the home team. If you were to ask me the results of any games however I would be stumped. Never had a football team till the back end of last season, when I moved to Horwich and got into football as part of my getting to know people strategy, as well as supporting Bolton I’ve also ended up playing darts and dominoes for my local. It all worked though I have a local where I can go for a drink and have people know who the hell I am

You’re actually closer to my regular pub than I am. I mainly drink in the Queen’s Head, but i live down near the Victoria

I went ot see the London Broncos a while ago - not bad, but not as good as football (but ten times better than that bloody awful Union stuff).

bloody union mumble grumble mumble  At least you know where you are with 5 tackles. I don’t understand this not being allowed to hold on to the ball rubbish

It’s a game for rough girls.

. . which sounds interesting, matron.
