SDMB gamers, step forward

Ditto. Haven’t played in years. Are there still only five colors?

RD-Yep. Five colors, boatloads of rules. Seriously. Buckets.

Elthia-I really dug Torment. And for once in one of those games, talking to the other party members was a)an option and b)actually helpful. Plus you could make out with Annah, so there’s a bonus. (Man, I’m sad.)

But for the other kind, I’m mainly into turn-based strategy games. During law school, I was hardcore into MUD’s (my Gomeo was the 6th Legend Bard in Elanthian history), but to my way of thinking the game died when AOL went to unlimited hours and the number of newbies went through the roof, so I quit the lands.

V.

As I’ve mentioned before, Planescape: Torment is the best CRPG ever made. And that’s not an easy accomplishment after the Fallout series.

Wow. I’ve just gotten IN to M:tG. It’s not really that hard to understand with all the rules and stuff. I’ve only spent about $13 so far, and I only have one deck, but I’m really getting into it.

Garfield-The problem I’ve now got with M:tG is that I learned to play it under the old rules. If I could make myself unlearn the rules and pick up from the new ones, it might make it easier. However, I can’t seem to make myself do this, and the new rules sometimes run at complete odds from the old, confusing the crap out of me. Plus, the more cards you see and the more they print, the more cards are out there that break the rules, or make special cases for themselves. Also, you have to know how almost every single one fo the cards operates under the rules if you plan to play in tournies, which was one of my main goals.

Make no mistake, M:tG is a terrific game concept-wise, and it’s the best selling CCG of all time. Hell, it started the genre. But when they banned Dark Ritual from tournament play because it made the games too fast, I decided it was time to call it quits.

If you want tons of cool, old cards and have about $2200 lying around, let me know. I’ve got a deal for you.

Flyp- :stuck_out_tongue:
Heh heh.

I used to play Mortal Kombat 1-3… God, I can feel it, I’m falling deeper and deeper into dorkdom. sigh :frowning:

If you want a fun CCG…try xXxenophile the Card Game. ::: evil grin :::

Another game that is pretty fun is Dragonstorm. It is a Card based Role playing game. Is a real roleplaying system, not a strategy game like Magic: The Addiction.

Well, the only RPG I’ve ever been into (and in now) is good old AD&D. It’s a really fun game, especially when you have a Dungeon Master who knows what he’s doing.

I am a very big fan of FPS games, namely:

1.) Doom. Always a classic. I just can never seem to tear myself away from it. Be it editing levels, playing modifications, or admiring new, flashy OpenGL ports, I love the game and will never quit on it.

2.) Unreal and Unreal Tournament. Two very exciting games that I play frequently also. I have also started editing levels for them, but it’ll take me a while to get the knack.

3.) The Quake series. Never played Quake 3: Arena, because it’s a multiplayer game strictly, and with Quake 2, which was less than stellar, I figured I’d stick to UT for a multiplayer game. The first 2 Quakes were impressive graphics-wise, but the gameplay could’ve been better.

I also enjoy simulation games:

1.) The SimCity series. Never played 3000, but heard it was really good. The classic SimCity was the first one I played, and SimCity 2000 really improved upon it.

2.) The Sims. Great game, especially with money cheats :). Building a huge house and purchasing everything you could imagine is a great experience for me.

Also, I enjoy other games, like Tetris, Breakout, Nibbles (if you own a TI calculator you know what I’m talking about) , and just plain old card games like Kings in the Corner, Widow Wist, and plenty of Solitaire games.

And, as you can see, I’m quite a lurker here.

I host a small army of Sisters of Battle in Wharhammer 40k. Flyp, you don’t have an email address, so I can’t mail you! What races did you play? Email me if you get the chance.

I was a slave to the cardboard crack they call M:TG. Now I am into pewter smack.

Well, this looks suspiciously like a meeting of Gamers Anonymous.

Umm… OK… well I’m Apollyon, and ummm… I’m a gamer.

It started with Empire of the Petal Throne back in '79 and quickly progressed to The Fantasy Trip (the game Jackson made before GURPS) and RuneQuest (which remains my all time favourite).

I’ve done D&D and AD&D and Aftermath, Bushido, Space Opera, Traveller, Call of Cthulhu, Chivalry & Sorcery, Rolemaster, Space Master… ummm… pretty much anything I could get my hands on… and then at University I got into a big DragonQuest group, and was doing 2, sometimes 3 games a week. I managed to keep it under control most of the time, (I told myself that I could stop anytime I wanted)… and then I got into Warhammer and 40K

Finally it came to a head in '94 with Magic… they’d just brought out these Arabian Nights cards and… well… it all spun out of control.

I was main-lining Antiquities and Legends… and I got into… <rubs arm>… importing and distributing games… I’d become a “pusher”… selling addictive cardboard drugs to innocent kids, swindling widows out of their life savings buying incredibly well crafted white metal figurines for their children, introducing the young and unwary to the dangers of GURPS, MERP, BattleTech, Vampire and the grand-daddy of them all Dungeons & Dragons.

I’d read the Chick Tract, but I didn’t care… I was flying to the US and partying it up with the big dealers from TSR, SJ Games and WOC.

But the high-life couldn’t last; the debts piled up, the retailers I supplied wouldn’t pay their bills, the supply dried up and I had to go cold-turkey.

These days I’m back on the wagon… back in the sane and stable world of IT… and restraining myself to the occasional DQ game… oh, and if I ever do manage to get my 40K marine army finished, I wouldn’t mind a game of that too.

What? No ones is secure enough with themselves to say they played ElfQuest?

Hi, I’m Xgemina and I have spent way too much money on RPGs in my life…

These days it’s mostly Rifts and ShadowRun, would kill for a decent game of AD&D if for nothing else, that I haven’t played it in eons.

Let’s see, Warhammer RPG and 40K, BattleTech/Mechwarrior, Renegade Legion, Amber (which I couldn’t stand, no dice), Top Secret, Gamma World, Several small Steve Jackson games, Street Fighter RPG, Gang Busters (my first), Traveler (god, I loved that game), MERP/Rolemaster (Charts galore, for Accountants and Math Science Doctorates), Paladium Fantasy, the White Wolf storyteller series (Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, etc.), Justifiers, and a couple more I can’t think of right now…

Did a stint with MtG when it came out, great game at the time if you where tired of spades, and the greatest card game: NUKE. (or was it Thermonuclear War) where you nuked all your opponents.

Nowadays it’s a chore to find gamers that aren’t high schoolers (no offense to the HS out there) bent on the monty haul scenario. And most of my age group (29) either doesn’t play any more (“I out-grew such childish pursuits”)
or they don’t exactly want other people to know. Have to admit it doesn’t seem to be prevalent in my everyday speech either…But, I’m going back to school this fall so maybe the little gaming gods will smile upon me.

Anyways, howdy all.

I think it was “Nuclear War” and the expansion set/sister game was “Nuclear Escalation”.

I didn’t like Role Playing Games, but I was a wargame/card game/strategy game fan: Wiz War, Kremlin, 221 B Baker Street, Mille Borne, Abalone, Cosmic Encounter, Family Business, etc.

I never could get into Sim 2000 (which is on this comp) I just like to build the cities to destroy them I never was good at building them… I’d also like to try The Sims… that looks interesting.

Nibbles! I love that game! What’s a TI calculator? We had Nibbles on our old computer… we still have our old comp I just haven’t played on it in ages.

I love card games as well. Some of the best nights I’ve had have come whem playing Canasta or Rummy with my Grandparents and brother. Or when camping with friends we always bring a crib board and play sitting at the picnic table late at night around the lantern. sighs Ah memories.

Also this Paranoia RPG where might I find some info online about it? IS there info online? It looks interesting.

red-Sorry, I thought I had the Privacy box checked “no”. I’m currently painting more Praetorian Imperial Guard than I can imagine; those little bastards are cheap, and you’ve got to paint a million of them. I’ve got some High Elf and Dogs of War stuff for Warhammer Fantasy. Also have a Goliath Necromunda gang and a High Elf Blood Bowl team.

Topaz-Here’s a pretty awesome link for intros to Paranoia. Welcome to CRD Sector

And once more for that link (sheesh)-

Welcome to CRD Sector

Sigh. I liked playing Paranoia- but I loved running it. I was an incredibly twisted and inventive fuck when it came to running adventures- no one survived, but a hysterical time was had by all. Favorite moments include the time I bought Play-Doh and had everone create minatures out of it, then used possibly every kitchen implement my parents owned to demonstrate the effects of certain disasters…

I haven’t roleplayed in a long while, having decided that I’m more interested in wargaming than in role-playing (and as a role-player I far too often turn into a Hack n’Slasher, which isn’t much fun in the long run).

John, I had half a mind to start “The Real Paranoia Thread”, but I though it would only be you, foolsguinea and I in there spouting off a bunch of stuff no one else would get and looking like the biggest whacked-out wankjobs the MB’d ever seen. But at least I know now that if I sneak some Alpha Complex jokes in now and again, you’ll pick up on them.

And this would make us different from the rest of the board in what way?

Seriously- I’d love to regale people with what few stories I can remember from my days as a Paranoia GM. I take great pride in the creativity with which I gave my friends the shaft, and the fact that they kept coming back for more!

Sigh. Oh, what heady day those were…

Greetings

This, as it happens, is my first post. So, Hi all!

As to the question, I play the following games:

  1. Warhammer Fantasy - I have the beginnings of a Lizardman army, and a moderate Undead army.
  2. Warhammer 40k - I have a small Tyranid army, and the beginnings of an Imperial Guard army
  3. Magic: the Gathering - Oh…my…God. I’ve spent probably a couple grand on cards, which would probably explain my current poverty level. I have a few complete sets which I should really sell off, as well as several thousand other cards (at last count, my collection totaled over 13,000 cards).
  4. Computer games - My favorites included Heretic, Heretic II, Half-Life, Diablo, Starcraft (incl. Brood war), Baldur’s Gate. I am currently working on Thief (yeah, it’s a bit old…I just got it). I also have tons more that I just haven’t gotten around to playing yet…

I have also played Rolemaster, D&D, AD&D, Villains & Vigilantes (a very simplified superhero RPG, but loads of fun with the right GM…which often happend to be me!), and a few others which I probably don’t remember.

Yes, I am an addict :stuck_out_tongue:
