I think most people know I’m female. Some folks assume I’m male, but I think my name’s pretty gender-neutral.
But apparently, some people think I must be skinny! Like Green Bean = string bean = nickname for a skinny person. Who woulda thunk? I’m definitely not skinny. Just the opposite.
Funny to think that some folks out there in cyberspace think of me as a skinny guy.
Gila is actually my IRL first name, a not-too-rare Hebrew girl’s name, pronounced with a hard G, long E. People here sometimes assume that I’m referring to the gila monster , pronounced HEE-la, which is a poisonous species of lizard. Unfortunately, there was a picture of a gila monster in my second-grade science textbook. It took me years to live it down - I’m sure you can imagine how much fun seven-year-old boys had with that one.
For once, my sig is actually relevant.
Then, of course, I leave the sig out.
Possibly it’s only because the “g” key is right below the “y” key.
Although I knew before I read this thread, I have previously mis-estimated the gender of clairobscur (because it sounds like Clair), Kalhoun, NurseCarmen, and EddyTeddyFreddy.
The idea of mistaking zev_steinhardt for a woman makes my brain hurt.
I’m a manly man and ain’t nobody ever denied it. But there was a poster who once said that anyone who used “little” as part of their screen name had to be a woman and I had to step forward to refute it.

I assumed that js_africanus was an African-American male, but there was a photo thread where he/she linked to a photo of a white woman. So I just don’t know.

I was also confused about many of the usernames mentioned. I’d learned the correct gender prior to this thread for some of the names, but some others listed here have been a revelation.
The name that still messes with my head is Ilsa_Lund. She is actually a he. I have to remind myself each time that the poster is a male, even though the username is a famous female character.
What am I? I am what my name implies. As for the gender of my person, check my location. Lots of useful info there.

I am exactly who I say I am. Basically, I blame a lack of imagination for this.

Yesterday I remembered that I had the same problem with Ale (whom I always thought as ‘that smart chick from Uruguay’) and Kaylasdad.
