A joke I liked along those lines someone posted here a while back:
2016: “Trump can’t really win, can he?”
2017: “President Trump can’t do that, can he?”
2019: “Are you watching Hunger Games tonight? I hope my district wins.”
OP, why start these debate watching threads five days in advance?
Clarovanoia - the condition that overlaps clairvoyance and paranoia.
OP doesn’t want to get scooped, ya know.
Trump does well with his big rallies, but I think the one-on-one nature that Clinton (that is, Bill) mastered in 1992 isn’t his forte. I’m not sure it’s Hillary’s forte either, though.
It’ll be interesting to see if the moderation is better or worse with two of them. I predict no improvement (I can’t predict worse either because we’re already at the bottom of the barrel).
4 actually. 9 - 5 is still 4. Trump hasn’t changed that yet.
Because there’s so much to talk about in the days leading up to the debate.
Would you rather have an omnibus debate watching thread?
Does Trump actually make money off his rallies?
Just speaking for myself, but it seems it would be more convenient come Sunday if we didn’t have to scroll through four days worth of posts to get to the part where people are talking about the debate as it happens.
^ this right here
No. Like Miller, I think a thread titled “live coverage” of the debate should mostly be real time comment on the debate, not padded by four days of bad jokes and wish-list speculation.
From what I’ve read the tickets are generally free but I guess there’s a chance he gets a percentage of any concession sales that might be going on.
Plus, after the rally is over, he can stiff the suppliers - pay them 10 cents on the dollar because “maybe I didn’t like their work”.
If Trump’s campaign asked me to supply anything for it - printing, catering, room rental, signs, security, etc… I would insist on 100% cash payment in advance.
Donald’s doing “debate prep”, answering softball questions from his fans with Howie Carr as “moderator” in a New Hampshire town hall style event.
Questions included, "What would you say to convince Hispanics who are deceived by Obama, Clinton and the biased media to vote for you?” and “Who’s going to win the World Series?” Al Baldasaro, Trump’s vetern’s affairs advisor and the guy who suggested Hillary should be shot by a firing squad, asked how Donald would fix the VA.
But my favorite part was the “Whining About the Previous Debate” segment:
Yeah, Hillary gets all the easy questions, like “how do we fix the economy” while poor Donald has to take the hard stuff.
Tonight Trump held a townhall in New Hampshire, which was supposed to be prep for Sunday.Except Trump came out basically saying “Fuck this, studying’s for nerds.” And then he took softballs from a gushing moderator in front of a room full of friendlies, veered wildly off message and left 30 minutes into it.
Ok, bud. You’re probably right. She’s at home watching Luke Cage and taking extra long naps with her cats.
Not at the power settings that I’d use.
(The world just isn’t ready for TWO Don Kings…)
I’m seriously hoping someone asks them about Kim Jung-un, China’s land building in the sea, and Putin’s desire to renew the cold war. These are serious issues facing the next president.
I’m afraid Trump would over play the hand with respect to the above, creating a major problem, while Hillary would under play it, choosing safety over security. These are tough issues with no easy answer and definitely, worthy of debate.
Hey this aint no Big Bang thread!
I do wonder if some undecideds get the message being sent:
Candidate A believes in hard work and in being prepared. Knows that smarts and talent alone are not enough
Candidate B believes work and preparation is for losers.
Just in the optics there is something about basic American values here that plays badly.
Goals for this debate for each are the same: don’t say anything stupid, steer the conversations gently to what you want to say, and demonstrate humanity and empathy, that they understand and care about the problems each viewing demographic is facing.
WJ Clinton believably sold his compassion and connected in this format. Neither of these two have that gift. Trump plays large crowd emotions well but demonstrating that he hears and understands? No. HR Clinton is by now always self-editing as she speaks so much that it limits her relatability. Whichever uses this format to actually connect with people, personalizes their answers better with real vingettes, wins the debate.
Wait, the debate is Sunday night, during the Packers game AND side-gig?
Not only can I not watch, I can’t even drink!
Ahhh… about that…
So this election is, essentially, Goofus and Gallant?
Make America Grate Again!
I’d rather two Don Kings than one King Donald.
I’ve read stories over the last few months that when you get her in a one on one situation, Hillary is very personable and really connects with people. She just can’t do it with a crowd like Bill or Obama.
The hologram is pretty good, but when it has to account for multiple eyelines, you have to expect a certain loss of quality if you don’t want the scales and fangs to show.
