Sdmb mafia

Yeah probably should have elaborated a bit, but it was late and I had to hit my scratcher.
I think advantages are that we get peoples opinions on what roles may be scum, which may be useful later on as information is revealed. Yes weak and possibly quite useless, but it was a place to start talking rather than sit around and discuss Peekys football knowledge.
I see no downside to discussing which roles may be scum and which may be town as Scum already know so we wont be handing them anything.
(well assuming there is only town and scum, I had not considered the possibility of other factions with different conditions al la Conspiracy)

What I think we should avoid is too much discussion of the various role powers because
a) it could end up with someone sailing close to breaking the no quoting pm rule.
b) Scum do not know our powers, and keeping them in the dark seams like a good idea. I would think that they are going through the guess the power role over in scum central.

Well anyway, now into the 100 odd post that materialized over the last 12 hours.

I can confirm this.

I can confirm this as well.

But, seriously, Hero from Sector 7G, peeker is an… interesting individual. I can only aspire to be as entertaining, but I usually have to resort to stories of sex that involves poop. Or stories of poop that involve sex.

Moving on…
**
Peek** will post some pretty good content when he feels like it. Regardless, it will be sprinkled with stories of things slightly more entertaining than poop and sex. Like what he feels like eating right now, for example.

I, for one, like the style. But then again I’m a big fan of zuma’s style (an equally eccentric poster) as well. There are tidbits of knowledge in there, and not only do you get to look for them, you get to laugh while you do so.

In other words, it’s his style, and coming down on him too hard for that alone isn’t going to get any of us anywhere.

FOS pedescribe for not answering my post 266.

I get it… that is his style.

I didn’t know that when I asked. Two posts with no content struck me as someone who wanted to appear involved without taking a stance. Now I know, and am all too ready to move on.

Are you scum,** Hero From Sector 7G**?

My PM says no. My ex girlfriends… they might say otherwise. What’s your point?

Interesting thread so far. You guys are likely to see more from me at the end of the night and during the workday in bursts.

The cases against Pedescribe and Boozy seem like the most interesting. Pedescribe’s been called out for flailing a bit and looking like he’s throwing stuff to see what sticks. The case against Boozy is less clear, but I was pinged pretty hard when no one seems to know what “win-more bonus power” means–feels kinda like a fish for information by being obtuse while appearing to be reciting a shibboleth.

Let’s see, what else. I admit to a inborn suspicion of JSexton solely because he’s mapped in my memory as an elder statesman of Mafia and I’m going to be second-guessing my feelings on him as a result. I also admit that peekercpa has a style that makes me feel like he’s lurking in plain sight–when I’m not mildly infuriated because I can’t suss out his point half the time. =P

Because of the deadline, ban Boozahol Squid, P.I.. I think Boozy’s fish for information is relevant here–I’d feel completely differently if Santo had had clue one what he was talking about.

And no, I don’t want to to know what “win-more” whatever means, because if Boozy isn’t scum I would prefer not to hand them more free information.

One downside is that game mods like to screw with players’ heads and make scummy-sounding role names be Town and Townie-sounding role names be scum. So, if role A is scum, and you theorize based on the role name that it sounds Townie, that scum player can play off your preconceptions to get you to trust him. Likewise, if role B is Town, and you theorize based on the role name that it sounds scummy, a scum player can use your preconceptions to lynch role B.

Plus, there’s the whole PFK/third party faction concept, as well.

Blah blah speculate don’t speculate blah.

I’m becoming quite fond of this “vote your sigline” idea, and mine is getting stale anyway.

I bet any other Town member that Sock(s) and Troll(s) are the PFK in this game.

Scum and PFK need not apply.

Any takers?

Just trying to see if you’re the kind that would lie to me. If your ex girlfriends say you’re scum, it’s probably because you lied to them. If you lied to them, what’s to stop you from lying to me? I mean, you invested at least a small part of your life with them, and exactly nothing with me.

I’m suspicious.
For the humor impaired, the above was mostly a joke.

Hero seemed to be a bit uptight. I was trying to calibrate his humor sensor. Based on his quip, I think I succeeded.

THIS IS SERIOUS BIZNISS!

For realsies though, I’m off. I’d like to see other people discuss other stuff. I’m suspicious of ped, but day one is a waste if we only focus on one person.

Excuse me?!? We were so close.

Though I didn’t actually know that was our goal…

You have to get to know him. This is actually him, relaxed.

His posting style grows on you. Give him time.

I have to wonder, though. The role description lends itself to (possibly) interesting posting restrictions. I wonder if they are in the game’s design?

20%=1/5=Roughly the proportion of scum to town in most games. Ergo, we lynch scum, Santo gets to extend the game.

You obviously haven’t played many games with me. I’m in favor of lynches, and I understand that lynch trains are the way to get them done. Even if the town isn’t very sure of what it’s doing, it’s a hell of a lot better than ending a day with a 4-3 vote that scum can pileon and influence the outcome. If you doubt my honesty in this, check out YSI, Conspiracy I or the offboard Firefly mafia games. Towny in all of 'em, blatantly pro-train in all of 'em. And proud of it.

Thanks, but agonizing isn’t my strong suit. Nor, really, is attentiveness. Nor is paying attention to votes by people sitting on the hotseat.

Is this one of those things like where the cop can’t lie to you about being a cop on a drug raid?

Just hypothetically - a worst-case scenario where the town would have left itself wide open to manipulation.

It’s all got very busy over what I would call night - I can see a chronological split developing between US and UK (and other timezone) players, which could tend to distort conversations. Still, I suppose that’s neither unusual or avoidable. But with the random Nightfall, it could (pretty much will) lead to people being unable to respond to a case against them before the hammer falls. Tricky.

So, what’s been happening? Re Santo’s claim: if he be scum, it’s a bold play to gain trusted status early, in which he gambles that either there is no Terry, or that the real one will be reluctant to call him out for some reason. If he be town, he’s risking drawing fire as a “safe” target for scum, who presumably are unsure what power-roles they may be up against, in return for boosting the town’s knowledge.

Either way, we’d be arguing that Santo has done something risky and unusual in order to help his side. This is not, I fear, out of character. However, as I doubt that even the most impetuous scum would want to risk counter-claim and second-Day death at best, I’m minded to give the benefit of the doubt.

…gotta go to work - more thoughts to follow by my lunchtime.

…work, schmork.

As far as pedescribe’s vote leader status goes, he certainly does seem to have been looking hard for reasons to find people suspicious. But whether this is scum hurling mud, town trying to provoke Day 1 discussion, or just an itchy trigger-finger is less clear.

What’s more certain is that we still have a few lurkers, and in the interests of provoking some more involvement - and getting a vote in - I’ll

vote Nanook of the North Shore

I realise we still have just over 24 hours to go (minimum, obviously), but more participation is better than less.

Well, the LoTR was the most recent…and most humorous. But you also claimed early in Marvel, and you had it forced upon you in Gastard.

Okay, that makes sense.

I remember YSI. That’s the one where you pursued a newbie who made a slight slip that the Mod had said it was nothing. Even then, though, you gave a reason.

What you’ve done is establish a false dichotomy. Either we should get me, or Hero from Sector 7g. I’m not buying it, especially since you won’t even stick down a vote.
